take a deep breath eccramer Smile

IF this is going to be a full out arg, this is just the lead up to it, a pre-game most likely. patience... over-spec is annoying, but it won't kill it if they're consistent at keeping interest up with significant bits of info. And hey, this is Halo... the rampant fanbase will never tire of it, let alone over-speculating in down times Razz

as long as people mirror other sites' info here too...

Truly. People are bound to get carried away by potential infinite connections and leaps, and finally kill the whole thing due to rampant over-speculation.

That's what I find really frustrating about this ARG. ILB we got a sandbox to play in (ilovebees.com), but here we've just hit a brick wall for lack of content. Now it's just people randomly speculating away. C'mon Bungie, GIMME A REAL PUZZLE!. I hate waiting games...

Perhaps it is strategically timed?

Basically, we're the only ones that are organized. args.bungie.org has some interesting spec, but it's all unwarranted. They don't have anything we don't have yet.

EDIT:

Bungie.net is useless as always. Look at this thread.

Subject: Let's all change our avatars to that of the AR, maybe it'll no...

Message: Who said that we couldn't play back?
This is our chance to see if we can have an effect on the AR, maybe then it'll see that we want to know more.

Maybe we have a real puzzle but we just haven't figured it out yet. How fun would the game be if they spoonfed everything to us? And the 'game' 'started' a few days ago so i hardly think there has been too much time in pre-game. We just need to chill out and try and figure out what we can from what we've been given so far.

We have Silent_shadow900 working on a fact document for what we have so far, which is not a whole lot.
Pre-game can be slow, but with only one glyph showing up in one email and the Halo3.com site (which is in flash so there is no prying through the code like ILB), there is really very little to draw from without throwing ourselves into rempant speculation.
We do not want to become rampant like Durandal in Marathon, a.k.a. crazy as a loon.

wow

I spent four hours doing this?

Here's the VERY ROUGH version of all the information gathered so far. If you have something to add, tell me and I will may add it. Sooner or later I will also get around to organizing it better.

Anyway, I need to go down to the comic book store. Catch you guys later.

Spec is also something we can do to pass the time while we wait for more answers. Everything will get cleared up eventually so we might as well predict everything so when something does happen, we can say " I totally called that" and feel good about ourselves.

We have three months, one week, and four days for this viral/protoARG to run, if it runs up to the retail release.

Patience.

-- Steve'll also point out that it's hard to police every thread at Bungie.net. If 27.com is tied to Lyca, which is proven OOG, then he'll start shutting down those threads when he gets a chance.

This is very good. I just suggest adding a notes section at the end noting that the XBL transcripts, and AIM transcripts are bunk. Other than that, it's probably better than what I could have had patience to do.

I know that someone earlier asked if there was a new auto-update to Halo 2. (I will go back and find the post right after I type this).

That could be because the person has not logged in since the new maps were made available (of which Desolation is one of them).

OR

Bungie released an new auto-update last night, and the map Desolation now has the glyph on the wall, and perhaps other signs inside other maps. I cannot validate this until I get home from work. Can someone else check?

I highly doubt that this is the case, as Bungie would have announced an new auto-update was being released for X reason, but I thought I'd mention it in the off chance that Bungie later claims that AR pushed out an auto-update without their knowledge. Maybe that was the seeds it was spreading?

If there is indeed an in-game clue on a changed multi-player map...
That would be awesome.
Connects the halo fans with the halo universe in new and interesting ways. Maybe if that does indeed prove true, then there is a hidden message or clue other than the glyph in that map somewhere? The speculation is endless....

Move forums?

A question for the forum folks: How far do we have to get into the game for threads to move into the established ARG forum instead of the news&rumors? Obviously this hasn't been ongoing for very long at all but it does indicate the start of the Halo 3 ARG everyone was waiting for. I was just wondering the what criteria the mods use?

So here's an idea.

AR lead us to Halo3.com via email glyph. Halo 3 glyph lead us to the story so far image of chief from the teaser trailer...

So I've been going frame by frame through it and found this thing that pertains to nothing...which usually means something.

http://stowe.music.googlepages.com/trailer.jpg

I have to run out for a bit, i'll be back to scour more, but I feel like that's where we need to look for a time.
