Most games first go into ARGs with Potential, where they can expand to multiple threads while still not having a dedicated forum.

Then, if traffic, complexity, etc. (as well as whatever other criteria the admins use) justify it, they get their own forum.

Re: Move forums?

A question for the forum folks: How far do we have to get into the game for threads to move into the established ARG forum instead of the news&rumors? Obviously this hasn't been ongoing for very long at all but it does indicate the start of the Halo 3 ARG everyone was waiting for. I was just wondering the what criteria the mods use?

Most likely only when we need multiple threads to keep discussion organized. It's not about how far into the ARG we get, it's how much we need the space. Which we'll probably need soon.

Agreed.
As the speculation arcs that actually gain substance begin to arrive, separating them from each other will become a need, as well as separating speculative talk from straight, only facts discussion.
But so far, this thread is pretty spot on with a cohesive, dedicated group of individuals, who speak their minds but keep on topic and do not clutter the space with rampancy.
Cheers everyone on a job well done! Keep it up!

(Sorry for this actually being said rampancy)

Thanks for the responses gang, it is cleared up for me. I have been a lurker since ILB, but never had anything major to contribute. Hopefully this will give me some chances to participate in some way.

Executed a stegdetect on structure.jpg from halo3.com (the out-of-order Structure Screenshot), which returned a "structure.jpg : jphide(*)".

I do not currently have enough experience with stegdetect to proceed further.

Thoughts?

Here's the VERY ROUGH version of all the information gathered so far. If you have something to add, tell me and I will may add it. Sooner or later I will also get around to organizing it better.

Anyway, I need to go down to the comic book store. Catch you guys later.

I'm going to link to that in my FAQ, okay?

i have been playing around with the UFO picture and the paint rendering of the glyph (too lazy to go back and see name, credit to u) and i cannot make the two glyphs fit together, so im thinking that it is just a coincidence that they looked alike in the pixelated image. the mark on the UFO only has four prominent point emanating from the center, whil the glyph has 5 major points, and one smaller one. also, in looking at the lettering on the picture it other characters look to be Japanese in origin. if you all want, ill put up the pictures so u can see.

I could be wrong, this is just my observation on it

Don't bother, we already know that 27.com and the UFOs are OOG.

No problem. It's been debated back and forth for a while, and people at the bnet forums still think it's kosher. The fact that you analyzed it and proved it wrong is good. Actually, I take it back, post it to thebruce's wiki when it goes public, it'll be good for the section debunking all that jazz.

Today i received a mysterious picture from microsoft via email. I think it has nothing to do with the content of the mail (about a competition on www.xbox.com/music) and was mentioned at the end of it.

Quote:
Oh, one other thing – we received the photo we've attached to this mail and were asked if we could send it to our XCN sites. Thought it might be of interest to you...

I really don't know what is it about, but there is a red sign on a trashcan. I thought i show it to you cause the xbox-com email today said "Look for the signs, the keepers of the flame."

You can see it here on my website.

What do you think?

BTW: There is also a message in the private blog of Microsoft Xbox 360 Product Manager Boris Schneider-Johne

That doesn't look like the glyph very much.. i've tried silhouetting it many ways.. only way that it matches at all, there are missing portions.

I know that someone earlier asked if there was a new auto-update to Halo 2.

That could be because the person has not logged in since the new maps were made available (of which Desolation is one of them).

OR

Bungie released an new auto-update last night, and the map Desolation now has the glyph on the wall, and perhaps other signs inside other maps. I cannot validate this until I get home from work. Can someone else check?

There was no auto-update to Halo 2 last night. I played last night before midnight and again this morning and neither time was there an update. Before that I hadn't played since before Halo 3 Beta (~3 wks ago).

I also went into Desolation in System Link mode and looked around for something on the pillar-structures in the center on the bottom level and found nothing (i.e. no glyphs).

I did find something on the map that is probably insignificant to this game, but is probably related to something: the flags up high on opposite walls (one falg blue, the other red) had a symbol like the avatars that you can select in the game and then a roman numeral below that. One flag (forget which colors) had a Cobra and the numeral IV and the other had an Eagle and the numeral XII. Don't think these are related to our task, but just in case...

Too much Doctor Who - first thought when I saw the trash can was "Holy crap, Tardis?!"

Interesting glyphs on the trash can. I'm still not sure how this is going to go full-blown, though it does seem like they're putting... some effort into it.
