Gif is named Chrysopteron.

Term is related to the goddess Isis, meaning "golden winged". I'll dig further to see if I can find more usages.

-- Steve's seen google results linking it to species names of bats and flowers.

There is meta information that 42 may be involved (see Weephun's post in this thread) but it's not confirmed. We likely won't see confirmation until this campaign ends; the first rule of PM club is to not talk about PM club (when the ARG is running).

-- Steve views 42's involvement as probable, but not certain.

I dunno man, asking us to stay up until 1am (4am for east coasters) on a school/work night, just to send some people an email is not enjoyable in my book. It's starting to taste like teh weaksauce.

That's stegdetect detecting a hit for jphide. Have you run any jphide/seek tools against the image? You'll probably need a password if there's something there.

Stegdetect is known for false positives though.

Anyone else run any steg tools on any of these images should sound off whether false or positive.

I have not run anything further since I am not versed enough with them to accurately spot any results, and was hoping someone more enterprising would spring on it.

Ok, let's put two and two together here. The location of glyph in the e-mail was found to be in Desolation (though it's not there) and recondite reported the following...
recondite wrote:

I did find something on the map that is probably insignificant to this game, but is probably related to something: the flags up high on opposite walls (one falg blue, the other red) had a symbol like the avatars that you can select in the game and then a roman numeral below that. One flag (forget which colors) had a Cobra and the numeral IV and the other had an Eagle and the numeral XII. Don't think these are related to our task, but just in case...

So we have both the glyph which is not there(but apparently should be) and the Eagle on a flag. Could the Eagle be golden winged? Or are we grasping at straws?

not to certain if this is a lead but from what I know you should never leave a stone unturned. around the same time AdjutantReflex came on the scene There was another person in the forum name Metus Gravis who I contacted and after that person said they were 49 metus gravis from installation 03 making him a monitor. On B.net his name was Metus Gravis, and I'm telling you guess cause you have a greater knowledge on how to use the search tools so have at it.

You'd figure after ILB and all the resources that Bungie + 42+ Microsoft have, they could have started this thing off a little more dramatically. I guess this either isn't a true new fleshed-out ARG, or they are just taking their time with it. I hope it turns out better than it's starting. I know, I know, be patient.

ok, the wiki is up. So far the FAQ from FauxHammer, and Silentsound's summary are up

http://halo.wikibruce.com

I'll be doing some updates to it now that we're getting more info, so it's a little more streamlined

Not an expert but JPHS returns an image not modifed header, and to back it up I used stegbreak :-
Loaded 1 files...
structure.jpg : negative
Processed 1 files, found 0 embeddings.
Time: 254 seconds: Cracks: 2430670, 9569.6 c/s

guess it was a false negative sorry Sad

Also keep in mind that this is most likely not run by 42.
Just try not to expect ILB - The Sequel (as much as we would LOVE it), and enjoy it for what it is.

Hey, AR changed it's avatar to the Chrysopteron when this page was on page 42!!!! Isn't that proof enough???! Laughing

That wiki is freaking awesome. Very good job. I think we should share it as many places as possible to try to consolidate a userbase...or something like that.

Can I suggest NOT.

I am reminded of the swift death of a wiki after the start of ILB.

Also, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I don't have TIME for this.

*cries*
*dies*

So, any thoughts on why MS would insert that into the image? Project Sylpheed is being released in Japan only IIRC, so some viral marketing here wouldn't do much good...

Wow good find! But the game is published by Microsoft in the west. The demo was released today on the Xbox live marketplace worldwide (except Korea and Taiwan)

http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/06/14/demo-project-sylpheed.aspx

Maybe another ARG or just a symbol copy by a lazy developer? Project Sylpheed isn't that good to go viral in my opinion. After looking at the trashcan again this looks really like "alo".

Lets see what MS will answer me tommorrow.

Edit: The "Z" on the womans bag could be from the game "Tenchu Z" ? Huh what is Microsoft doing here?
