I'm getting the servers thing now, but where's the UN/PW prompt?

Quite interesting. It looks like we finally have something to actually ponder. I too am not getting a username/password prompt. It figures that this drops right when I'm really busy and can't sit down to help.

Clear your Internet Browser temporary buffers. Ideally dont wipe everything out, manually pick and choose what you want to delete (specifically anything associated with www.halo3.com). This will force the Locked servers to appear.

My best guess is they rethought their methods as putting a normal UN/PW prompt box like that is just asking for your servers to need massive amounts of KY

Quick thought -- AR reacted to the single word "Iris". Could this be a reference not only to the goddess, but to a literal eye? I'm thinking along the lines of Cortana's peepers in the hi-res "Emotion" wallpaper. Many interesting patterns to be found there. Anybody with decent imaging software willing to enhance it?

I tried magnifying it but the markings on the iris are too speckled/indistinct for me to see a pattern. However, I am tempted to see the image of a Monitor in that iris...

Nothing seems to work for me. Can't access it. Anyway, I'm going to bed... I'll take up the graveyard shift tomorrow.

I am going to try to crack open the swf files and see if i can resurect some of the actionscript and at least get an idea of what is going on in the site.
If Bungie did it right, I will find nothing in the code, but it might end up that I find something of value. Halo3.com, here I come! Now where did I put that jackhammer?

It's likely the refreshing happened while they were updating the website. The password prompt may have occurred because of requests being made to files the server locked as they were being copied... just a web server safety mechanism, nothing intentional.

I didn't catch the login prompt, but if it was an NT style login, not a flash login, then it was the flash making http requests through the browser, which caused the login box. The login is gone now, which makes sense, since the site has been updated.

I dunno man, asking us to stay up until 1am (4am for east coasters) on a school/work night, just to send some people an email is not enjoyable in my book. It's starting to taste like teh weaksauce.

That was disappointing, but the question is whether or not we were really asked to do that:

Emphasis in the above quote is mine.

I do agree that it was extremely odd to specify a moment when no significant incident was predicted (and then reiterate it later as being 36 hours and 50 minutes away), and then post something like "tick tock" a couple of times, reinforcing the import of a sort of countdown over and over that didn't seem to lead to much (yet?).

With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to think that we may have misread, and that there were any number of signs that were too easy to misread. But when you're intrepreting the somewhat cryptic writings of an apparently alien intelligence that you know almost nothing about, there usually needs to be some room for error Wink .

If I know anything about ARGs (which I think I do, though I've never really been involved in one before, just watched) unlocking the servers won't be done with a login prompt, but instead with interaction with a character. That makes more sense to me at least.

NINJAEDIT: Hey xnbomb, welcome back to the fold. Man, everyone is coming out of the woodwork aren't they?

Was able to pull something out off a localized "home.xml" file that appeared attached to Halo3.com on my machine:

Addendum: What caught my eye was http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo3/img/server_promo_1.jpg

Promo? It also says that this is the Main Promo and the rest are Small Promos.

http://www.halo3.com/xml/shell.xml
http://www.halo3.com/xml/tracking.xml

But so far nothing really there
