E-mail reply from Caretaker

Yep, he's forgotten who and what we are....

I sent:
Quote:
Subject: Recent changes

Heard you had stopped by irc.thegamebox.net #caretaker, with the
nick Caretaker
...
We have some new information. Really new information. Do you
remember Ivar Turgenev? Do you remeber SPECTRUM? Do you remember Tabas?
>
I remember, and I didn't learn about them until this summer,
from... people who no longer remember.

I received back:
Quote:
Are you nuts? How did you obtain those documents? If you have sufficient clearance to get them, you should know better than transmitting them in the clear.

And the rest of it.. Did the FOIA zealots finally get there hands on those
records? Sure, I helped Turgenev. It was a service to my country and
I'd do it again.

Since I retired a few years ago, I haven't kept up with any of my old
'cases' You might want to visit http://www.foia.cia.gov/foia_request.asp to
see what's available. fas.org might also have some records if the files have been declassified. Beyond that, I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

foia.cia.gov is an offical site.

http://www.fas.org/ is Federation of American Scientists whois shos registered in 1995 and expires in 2012, so probably not an "in-game" site, but supplied for information and research.

So Caretaker has lost his memories along with everyone else.

At least he knows what it's all about. He knew Turgenev, he won't look stupid when we tell him everything.

I sent him a list of things, asking if any of them seemed familiar to him, along with a .zip attachment containing espoo.pdf, sverd22.pdf, tabas1.jpg and tabas2.jpg.

Lo and behold, while I was at my sisters place last night, this got dropped in my inbox:

Quote:
You are the second person this week who brought up Turgenev. Is there some
reason for this? How did you find out about this email? I haven't used
this handle since the agency days before I retired.

I think it's safe to say that we've got his attention now. Very Happy

For the record

I also got a response, on Sat, 3 Jan 2004 02:19:50 -0500
but to an old email. I emailed Caretaker on December 16th, after we found the documents proving the government agent had traveled back in time to the UN. I wanted to let him know we had some information and he should contact us, but out of security concerns (and for fun) I did not take a very direct approach. Also, I was flirting with him a little bit in the same tone as his personal ad.

His response was:
Quote:
Do I know you? How did you get this email address? Are you replying to
my personal ad?>

At least he seems to remember the ad. Maybe he's still looking for a wild ride. Laughing
For the record I wrote:

For you, I have spent hours and hours searching. My friends help me, so while I have found many dead-ends, they have found several fruitful paths to travel. Our greatest joy would be to share with you.

gone as far as we can without advice from a caring person.

I sent this reply today
Quote:
Dear Caretaker,
We have never met in person but I did watch you play an on-line chess game recently. (although I think a third person was actually telling you the which moves to make, something I found unusual for someone who has a forceful personality like you.) Some people I know gave me this email address, as a way to reach you. We have been working on a problem that you might be able to help solve. This was the only way I had to reach you directly.
I think I know your real name but my friends disagree. At least two of them have emailed you recently about a man you used to know who had the same last name as a famous Russian novelist. ( Well, he is famous in Russia anyway; not so famous with Americans. )
So in a way, I am replying to your personal ad. But I am looking for more than a wild ride, I am trying to understand some things that are happening and I could really use your help. More than that, you are an intriguing person and I would like to get to know you better.

Maybe you can suggest another way we could get in touch.

I am looking forward to your next email.

Rose

Ok, as you can tell, I wrote this email when I was a little ticked and not sure what was happening. Wink Added here for completeness.

Reply to email

Caretaker (or someone) did reply to my email from last night here it is:

Quote:
As enchanting as you sound, I haven't played chess chess in years and I'm afraid you might have me confused with another person.

I'm not terribly familliar with Russian literature, but I do love a
good conspiracy story.

Let me know how I can help you. If I can, I will. I need a little more
to go on than a few veiled references. Do you ever get to Tucson?

Harker

He says he will help, any suggestions on what I should write?
