[REFERENCE] Iris Game Theories and Speculations

This thread is simply a reference list of all the relevant theories and speculations that have to do with the main points of the game. Do not post new theories or spec in this thread, and do not discuss them here. To discuss the theories go to the appropriate thread, i.e. the main trailhead thread.

~Kore

P.S. If anyone has a relevant theory that they would like added, PM it to me with as much information about it as possible, including any pictures or links that may be helpful to players. I'll try to add as time allows!

Glyph Theories

The mysterious Glyph first showed up in an e-mail that was sent out which led players to Halo3.com. The Glyph was then discovered to have been overlaid onto Master Chief's helmet visor on the main page of Halo3.com. This was then replaced with 5 locked servers. The glyph then appeared in a circuit city weekend advertisement which led players to the Halo3.com/comic web-page. In the final panel, the symbol once again appeared and led players to the Transmission Log. The glyph also appeared on the live protester's signs which had the website societyoftheancients.com. On the SOTA website's evidence page the glyph appears yet again, this time on a rock discovered in Africa.

Glyph/Stonehenge
One theory has it that Stonehenge, when overlaid with the Glyph, seems line up with the heel stones to point to the summer solstice. See the end of this post for a picture of the overlay.

African Rock
The African Rock on SOTA's website's evidence page shows the symbol clearly painted onto it. One theory connects this to the rock on the last panel of the comic located at.halo3.com/comic.

Countdown Theory

The Transmission Log page originally had a countdown to an unspecified date and time. The countdown was found out to be a modified countdown in base 7, counting down to June 21st at 12:00. It should be noted that it runs on the user end and therefore one could 'trick' it into finishing the countdown by adjusting the clock on one's computer. This was tried, but nothing happened, so it seems that only the clock does not specifically trigger anything, but rather when the page will be updated.

AdjuntReflex Theories

AdjuntReflex, or AR, is the first interaction that players had with the ARG. There are many theories on who it is and what its purpose is in respect to the Haloverse and game.

AR's original bungie.net avatar.

AR's second bungie.net avatar. Possibly to give us more clues into the ARG and possibly because many bungie.net users switched to his avatar.

General Theoretical Acceptance:
Most theories state that AR is some type of artificial intelligence or robotic-like entity located on Earth.

AdjuntReflex Forerunner AI
Some players believe that AR is a forerunner AI used to maintain something left on Earth, possibly the Ark. He began by talking about gathering data, which means he could possibly be looking for a way to stop some event from happening, such as the Halos from firing. This ties back into the summer solstice, which, in most theories, he is counting down to.

AdjuntReflex Transmission Log
The similarity of the text on the Transmission Log website and the posts of AR has led many players to believe that AR is the one behind the mysterious countdown. Another point which seems to comply with this theory is the fact that AR seems to use countdowns as a way of letting players know when to expect new information. He has already used a countdown method twice on the Bungie forums to signify when new info would be released.

AdjuntReflex is evil Theory
A few players believe AR to be an evil entity from the way that he has hacked the Bungie site, and some of the more threatening posts that he has made such as "You're wrong. This time, no one will be ready."

Society of the Ancients Theories

The Society of the Ancients, or SOTA, is an organization focused on aliens and their effect on ancient society.

Stonehenge Emphasis
Many people have noted that SOTA seems to be very interested in Stonehenge. This has led to the overlaying of the glyph onto stonehenge and what seems to be a positive correlation. Some also believe that they are interested in Stonehenge just to seem credible, as Stonehenge is often cited as having been built, or to have been helped built, by aliens.

Possible ILB Reference
On the evidence page, the end of the Stonehenge caption reads "The Round nature with counterpoints seems to bee an ancient theme." Many players take the misspelling of the word be as a nod to I Love Bees, the ARG for Halo 2.

Time Keeping Theme
Some players have noticed the theme of keeping time in many of SOTA's evidence. For instance, Stonehenge is believed to have been an ancient calendar. The Antikythere Mechanism was a simple computer mechanism also believed to have had some relation to keeping time.

SOTA sees the glyph on the Transmission Log
SOTA's website, contains a link to the Transmission Log and states that the glyph shows up on the site. Although when one reaches the site the glyph is no where to be found. One theory suggests that SOTA is being fed a different version of the website by whoever runs the Transmission Log.

The more I look at that glyph, the more it looks like 343 Guilty Spark's face. I may try an overlay for the heck of it when I get home.

Hey, I just discovered this (haven't really been in the scene since ILB wrapped up) and I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but has anyone considered spoofing access from the SOTA server to the countdown page? I dunno if that's possible without doing something blatantly illegal but it's a thought.

Spoofing access? You mean like disguising yourself as the SOTA server and accessing the countdown page? Why?

Just the suggestion that SOTA's being fed a different countdown site made me think it might be worth seeing if you actually get anything different coming from their server.

Just thinking, what if the countdown on the transmission log coincided with one of the servers opening on halo3.com? Haven't really been following, but who knows.

Personal Server Theory
this is just what i was thinking, not a widely regarded theory

So I was looking at the halo3.com page and I was thinking that maybe the images that are on each of the servers are pictures of the new "equipments" that bungie has added to halo now. ie. bubble shield, trip mine, etc. The server pictures sure do look a lot like grenades to me. I seem to remember that there was 5 equipments that they added so that would match up.

I looked around for like 20 minutes but couldn't find any pictures of them online. We need a picture of them in the MC's hand, or standalone, so that we can see if they match up to the servers. Maybe someone has a picture saved on their computer or knows where to get pictures of all the equipments so that we can see.

Question Could anyone help with this Cool

New Equipment

Nice idea, but they don't match up. The silhouetted images on halo3.com almost look like the same object from different perspectives.

They look like the outlines of multiplayer maps to me.

While maybe the content that will be unlocked by the server may not be relevant to Iris, maybe there will be secret code ala the warthog picture?
