UPDATE: Reggie's blog (Jan 6, 2004)

Quote:
Tuesday

the headaches are nonstop. went to the walk-in clinic yesterday. amused myself for four hours calculating fractals formulas from the grime patterns on the drop ceiling tiles. doc said everything looks normal. he did some bloodwork. i should have those results in a few.

wonder if his headaches have anything to do with the altered timeline Confused

Could he be sensing an echo of the other timeline? Maybe Jake's presence in this universe is causing ripples.

I don't understand how time machines would work, but if Jake has moved to another time line, shouldn't there now be two of them, the one that was in the coma plus the one that did the time travaling???

Jake has two sets of memories, one for the old timeline where he has the degree in quantum physics, and worked with Professor Z and the other where he didn't and was nothing more than tech support at a small shop. It could be that because of Reggie/John's high IQ he senses both time lines and the further out of synch they get, the worse the headache keeping track of both? Either way, I think we need to find John Baxter before too long if possible. He is perhaps the one person that can help us locate the Machine - we will need it in order to set thing back on the correct track.

Reggie

At least we know he is OK. These headaches don't make sense to me, could someone at his work be drugging him? Remember, we never figured out exactly who his enemies are in Timeline A. Those people could still be around in Timeline B and if they are starting to build NRU, he could be working on the same software as he wrote in Timeline A. Didn't he say that in Timeline A he had been to the site of the future NRU before it was built?

Why he goes to a walk-in clinic is not clear to me as he has a good job, maybe that is so we don't think he is back in the evil clutches of the doctor he called God.

Caretaker said John Baxter did not work for DARPA. So, either he never hacked the computer, or they never gave him a job. He is about 29 ish, which means that if he remembered the site before it was constructed, then either (speculating here) 1.) NRU was very very new, or 2.) He had two sets of memories, the second coming from this timeline. (maybe this is where the voices in his head came from).

I just wish his blog had a link for email.
And this is "Reggie" (who was a 'persona' that came out of John Baxter when he was given those antipsychotics).
So, what is his current name in this time line??????

I'm not really following the nuances of the game, so pardon if this is off base.

but, following the ABCD, ABEF two times concept that was posted elsewhere, isn't Jake the only person who has been into both timelines? We're seeing ABEF Caretaker but not the ABCD Caretaker. He couldn't be in both places since he followed linear time.

Jake, tho, jumped between timelines that diverged from a common ancestor. He participated in both the ABCD and the ABEF and so can be aware of them both, whereas non-timetravelers couldn't.

Exactly. But since we don't know enough about Reggie/Marcus Andover/John Baxter all we have at this point is he is extremely intelligent, hacked a government computer at one point and was offered a job, and remembers the land where they built the NRU campus, before the campus was built. The question is was he remembering this timeline before it happened, or is there something else going on with him?

Is it possible that instead of a diverging timeline, we have two seperate timelines?

SPEC: Paradox

That is the 64K question. Current quantum theory postulates there are multiple universes, each slightly different, each representing any number of minor changes to the timeline. Something as simple as having eggs or oatmeal for breakfast spawns another timeline, where everything is exactly the same except for that one event and the consequences from it.

So we either have Jake jumping time, but not affecting the major events in it (which is paradox prone), or we have Jake jumping to a different universe each time, with minor or major changes (no paradox, but then, he isn't in Kansas any more).

Which means we may need to discover which theory Jake is following.

We know he jumped when he ran Dec. 12, 2002. THat much was confirmed in the chess game between Caretaker and Jake, before the timeline switch. Per Jake's Blog, he apparently either jumped again, with Becker after him, or Becker was after him the first time, and the second (or another) hopper (Jake saw at least one on his first hop), went back and made some major changes. The change happened AFTER Jake returned from his first hop. In Jake's blog is proof that he hopped. The question now is not "did he hop?" The current question is "how many times?"

**Edit** On second thought, Jake only had access to the project for the first hop. Which explains why Becker was involved with his arrest. Becker shot at Jake Dec. 12, 2002, as Jake was hopping. Rose, we have something to add to your wonderful timeline.

Jake jumped twice as I get it (It's in Jake's current blog). Becker shot Jake on second time isn't he?

What about the integrity of this ARG?

I believe that the integrity of this ARG has been greatly compromised because the fact is that we (the players) have been excluded from actually being part of this. Since we have 2 timelines and we are currently living and experiencing timeline 2 why are we fully aware of the fact of timeline 1. This problem has effected the caretaker, but us, (the players), the people this game is supposed to center around aren't effected. I realize it is impossible to erase our memories, but maybe this game should not have started until the second timeline bounce so we would try to figure out the differences. But overall, I do appreciate the effort to entertain us.

My thoughts on the blog on Reggie is the headaches don't make sense since there are MANY intelligent people who should all be experiencing these issues. The fact is that if he experiencing recall and some supernatural gift to know the differences in the timeline. I am wondering if the Doctor is providing somesort of radical help. Maybe the gamewriter is trying to introduce www.lacunainc.com like he did www.hrdc.org. He has used part of other games, maybe he is doing it again. Especially since Jake and Reggie seem to be going to the same doctor.
