I think if the person in question is the Gravemind, then the image he sees is food.
Since the flood consume and integrate anything with viable biomass and neurological systems into its collective.

This is all fascinating and makes complete sense, but what is the answer to ARs riddle? And how do we communicate it to him? (I'm guessing PM which I have already tried)
Is it a riddle?
It's an ARG.
Everything is a riddle.
Wrapped in a mystery, inside an emigma?

Still, Durandal would make an excellent adversary for us to fight against.
You don't fight against Durandal. You end up doing his bidding.

In all seriousness though, I think we're looking at some other type of forerunner based AI, not the flood. How would gravemind "out rank" AR?

another mentioning of "millennia" is in the "story thus far" page on halo3.com.
it talks about the "prophets deliberately deceiving its populace for millennia."
I don't know the story that well so I thought I'd mention this for the guys that do, in case its helpful.

Highly unlikely. I can't see bungie letting us openly interact with a main character in the Halo storyline. I think we're limited to side stories and sub-plots here.
Although I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

Cortana was based off of a human neurological system onto "silicon" (for lack of a better descriptor) so she in effect can think like a living being and have emotions, while other AIs are just that, completely Artificial. Cortana is about as human as an AI can get, hence her moodiness and sarcasm.
Just like a real woman! J/k.
But Cortana can operate on levels that other AIs cannot, so AR might see her as out ranking it because she is more powerful.

The Cortana letters were released prior to Halo 1, so they did at one point have a main character releasing letters directed at the fans.

Except for that forerunner AI she was fighting with on high-charity. That one took her to school.

High-Charity was a Covenant vessel, so that was a Covenant AI I believe.
And that still does not discount that AR might see Cortana as a higher rank due to power, as if AR is the Ark AI, he is mighty old, and probably of the 1.0 variety.

I was under the impression that the "AI" was the Gravemind, which had infiltrated High Charity's systems?

True, but the AI she was fighting was on the forerunner ship that was powering high charity. She also made note that it was exponentially more powerful than any covenent AI she'd ever encountered.
Generally speaking covy AI's are dummer than bricks.

True Phoenix1337. I forgot about how dumb they were.
Well, if Cortana is tainted in Halo 3, then the Gravemind must of found a way throughout the years to bind with computers and become a "biological AI"

Not certain it's relevant, but I noticed that if you run a "select all" on any of the SOTA pages, there is a small series of spaces (two sets of eleven entries, to be exact) in the upper left-hand corner.
Might just be some HTML practice, but I found it odd. It is a small space though.
Unsure of importance of this find and the non-TINAG nature of the find, but, the spaces on the current SOTA website did not exist on the AKQA dev SOTA site. I remember because I had compared the two sites and had noticed the spaces being missing on the AKQA version back then, but deemed it unimportant since I was unable to pull anything from the spaces on the SOTA site. If anybody thought to pull a copy of the AKQA site we could verify this.
This would be cheating as well.
Thoughts?
