Japanese and Chinese both use kanji. The meaning is often the same, too. However, since Avery was a Japanese talent, it's safe to assume Japanese.
Except Japanese has kana in it. A string of Kanji doesn't really make sense to me. And the chinese translation makes more sense to me too. Oh well, Avery is considered out of game I believe.

I thought the kana were only used in instances where there were no equivalent kanji symbols (imported words, names, etc). I'm studying Japanese right now, but as I'm a whopping 3 lessons in, I could be greatly mistaken.

Here's what I'm guessing: he was an actor in the ARG, probably for the rallies and such, and took it upon himself to put up some SOTA info in his myspace blog without consulting the PMs. This got him deeper than he expected, and perhaps was asked by the PMs to remove the information. At the same time he probably has been bugged by hundreds of players.

Katakana is used for foreign words and names. Hiragana is mostly used to indicate prefixes and grammatical word endings. It is also used to represent entire words (usually of Japanese, rather than Chinese, origin) in place of kanji.

Bingo. His lame attempt at free publicity backfired on him.

Good to know. Thanks for the clarification!

Incidentally, one of his MySpace blog entries talked about some conflict with Facebook and his new username "Ave Ry." I tried adding him first day we all found the blog, but didn't follow up on it.

Don't know if that blog entry is still there or not, but it's an earlier one from Feb-March or somewhere in there.

OOG: That's a touch harsh considering. He could have had permission to put up the entry, but since SOTA was discovered early, his myspace became a focal point instead of a supplement, and as a result, it became distracting.

edit: no need to spoiler an oog explanation - save'em for puzzle answers and tv/movies plz... tnx -thebruce

The truth of that matter is harsh, not me.
