But why change it from the connection to the summer solstice? Maybe we found something early that we don't even know we found out about early. Smile

Or the PMs are figuring out that the pace needs to be faster in this ARG to keep people on their toes. Very Happy

I'd go with this.I think they realized that a majority of the Halo community gets bored quickly.

Evil objectives. It kind of feels now like something great is looming on the horizon and is coming fast.

Brace yourselves for the deluge!

(We are fickle crowd, especially the B.net community. But I like this pace change. Keeps slow days at work more interesting. Smile )

Is anyone keeping B.net covered for a new entity to communicate? That way we find out pretty quickly after its first post?

Can anyone just visually figure out how much faster it is counting down? Is it double time? If so then we only have one week left instead of two?

This puts a bind on anything dealing with the summer solstice.

About 1 real-time minute for every three minutes on the Log?

I've been timing the countdown on my work computer and one minute on the countdown=one minute on my work clock.

Perhaps the speeding up of the countdown was due to that hacking and AR was able to fend it off and recover control?

Also, could there be any meaning to the random string of numbers and letters in the pages text?

ok, to clarify what we're seeing at this moment -

it seems the countdown is counting down fast as if it's counting to tomorrow night, but it's using the start point of the original date... so, if you were to let the countdown go in the browser without refreshing or closing, it would end tomorrow night midnight. But if you close and reopen, the value will reset with the amount of time until the original June 21 12:00am.

This also explains the scattered reports of people thinking it's counting faster. The closer it gets to tomorrow night midnight, the faster the countdown will have to count to reach zero, when there's still a full day...

ie, if the code isn't updated, then in theory, at 11pm tomorrow night if you view the page, it'll have to count down 25 hours in 1 hour (about 25x normal speed).

So my theory - either AR is really messed up by the hacking, or the developer made a booboo and made the countdown script use tomorrow midnight as the destination time, but forgot to tell the start-value of the countdown to use tomorrow midnight instead of june 21 12am...

If it's the latter, then the flash will probably be fixed any moment.

Ok,

I wrote a script that checks the following sites:
206.16.223.65,
Society of the Ancients and all of its child pages,
206.16.223.65/clock.swf.

It checks these every thirty seconds for any changes made to the pages. If anything is changed I get a popup on my PC as well as an email sent to my phone. I will let you guys know if I see any changes.

ok in an attempt to keep posts organized, let's continue the transmission log website discussion to the transmission log thread, since this thread is getting convoluted and long...

I think the reports we are getting of the different speeds is due in part because people are forgetting that it is counting in base 7. From looking at the code, I believe that thebruce's theory is correct that people are seeing varying rates because the base time changes on every refresh.

However, as noted by thebruce, this should be discussed in the Transmission Log thread.

Complete! Let me know if there are any I missed.

I was just thinking maybe the letters that are supposed to be there are just as important as the incorrect ones.

I'm trying and it seems almost like 4-5 ticks per second?

Not only that, but on my screen it's going 0, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0...

That's because it's in base 7.
