I've been Flickring Mt. Elgon just to get a feel for the terrain (even though we're 500 years away from what any of this looked like in the trailer) and came across this image, which doesn't look too far off from some of the things we have seen in trailers:

ohhh...pretty.

So now what? Do we draw straws to see who goes to Africa and gets eaten by a lion?

I'm getting slightly different locations for the coordinates:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&formtype=address&latlongtype=decimal&latitude=01.12&longitude=34.53

Still within the same region though.
Can someone else confirm?

I think we've got the basic premise for the area. I mean, how are we to very specifically designate a point of reference handed down from the future, anyway?

In the region there's the Ngorongoro Crater.

Compare to:

Looks similar, but admittedly, so will probably a hundred other sites.

Also nearby is the Olduvai Gorge, commonly referred to as the "cradle of mankind"

Here's the wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olduvai_Gorge

Interesting to note that in Arthur C. Clarke's "2001", this is the location of the 1st monolith.

Irony? Or Cosmic conincidence?

Call it what you will (see title), but upon searching about the name Elgon, I stumbled upon a site: http://www.elgon.se/index-eng.htm It's about a hybrid Bee species called the Elgon Bee
Some European Bee (Finland) bred with the East African Mountain Bee - from Mount Elgon.
I think it is just a cosmic conicendence...

Nice job, dv8.

Also, here's an overlay of the glyph on the mountain:

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/9265/thatonemountainpu0.png

And an analysis of how large the Ark is:

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2641/wmplayer200706191547398pu6.png

Using this page:

http://nikon.bungie.org/misc/sloftus_scalecomparison/?display=CapitalShips

It seems to be about 7.5 miles across, but my money is more on 8 or 9.

Well, we've been thrown three sets of numbers thus far--and they all resolve to coordinates in Africa. The first has already been mentioned; the second two are part of the image name of AR's new avatar, which is MB05032_09_25_07. Entering these two numbers as coordinates, one gets the following:

Your guess is a good as mine, but three places in Africa seems like a bit more than coincidence.

edit:

Wait, no, there are FOUR!
