After receiving the email from DJ I replied enquiring if nomoreparents.com was in fact his site all along and a clever attempt to create a mystery that would draw more visitors to his blog. He replied saying that the email I received with the link to his blog was never intended for me and he didn't understand how I had received it. Like Schrijvertje I had also noticed that if you add nomoreparents.com to your favourites one in every four(ish) attemps to view the site will lead you to DJ's blog.

Now I'm wondering: Is it possible for someone to externally redirect your email messages? Is it possible as DJ says for someone to ensure that a message reaches someone else instead of the intended recipient. Is it simply a quirk of the internet that we are directed to DJ's blog instead of nomoreparents.com if you add this to your favourite list?

It is worth noting that prior to receiving the email that sent me to DJ's blog I had mailed IllegitiminoncarborundumSPLATnomoreparents.com to express our difficulties in finding his blog and asking for further assistance.

I can't believe that all of this is simply errors as DJ suggests.
I'm starting to wonder like Mokey Fraggle that -a may stand for Asher.

Well I googled Asher's name, and came up with the site for his afforementioned comics, www.ashersarlin.com. Checked the source and everything and didnt see anything too suspicious... You guys are welcome to double check it.

I really don't know if it could be a quirk of the internet, but I'd say if it is then wouldn't it be something to do with the browser? Like if we are now using Internet Explorer, would the redirection also occur if we would switch to, let's say, Firefox? I'm not into the technics of it all.

I never thought DJ and Asher are the same person. That "dumb twin" blog isn't DJ's, it's Asher's. But Asher Sarlin himself seems to be into too much other stuff to be behind this.

However, I don't think it's a coincidence that we once more get a link to his blog. I think DJ's message is a contingency plan in case we missed the redirection from the black page. I think it's meant to lead us to the next to last comment of the blog, posted by Ecapsym (an anagram of My Space) which I mentioned in my previous message.

danman_d said he couldn't find any blog with the jhendler handle anywhere, not even on My Space. Yet there IS a jhendler profile on My Space, yet it's set to private.

danman_d, did you miss it or did you somehow make sure it's not the one we're looking for?

I keep thinking of www.jhendler.com, particularly this line:

Quote:
Next week is 'O' week. Study hard!

Perhaps to say we won't see something new till next week?

Having worked in tech support for ten years, I can tell you such redirection can be done.

For the website, it would just be a matter of running a script on the server to redirect the browser.

For e-mail, it would involve being able to access said e-mail from the server level. Being that this e-mail seems to be sent from the mac.com domain, I don't think that's happening.

I think the former is actually occurring, however.

And danman_d, I still don't think you're a shill. But if you are, you're REALLY good. Very Happy

Big Larry, is it possible to view the script that is causing the redirection? Would it be hidden in the nomoreparents.com source code or is it undetectable?

The only problem I see with that is that jhendler hasnt logged onto his myspace since May 17... So, again I am new at this, but wouldnt the PM be on more often if this was an in-game thing?

Fizz: the fact that you received that email is very bizarre... I refuse to believe it was a mistake. I haven't gotten any more e-mail since that original one, back when I was one of the only ones following it. It's like they dropped me and latched onto you as the current most active player or something? Strange.

As for the Myspace: I saw it, it doesn't seem in-game. He hasn't been online since May, it doesn't seem like the right guy and it's a private profile.

Generally, when creating an ARG and trying to get lots of players, one tends not to make important in-game sites inaccessible to the general public. Unless these PM's are dumber than we think they are Very Happy At any rate, I added him as a friend a few days ago, and I don't think he added me back (myspace is broken right now, so I can't check).

Personal hypotheses: I don't think Prof. James Hendler or Asher Sarlin are involved, although I could be wrong. Prof. Hendler, if he knows anything about ARG's, would know better than to cast himself as a main player, unless he's got something rather cool planned. And Asher... it doesn't seem like his sort of thing. The blog going dark doesn't seem odd to me, because he'll go through periods of months where he forgets his websites even exist. I've been reading his comics for quite a while, and know him personally as a bit of a flake.

Also, I'll mention once more that I'm definitely and certifiably not a shill. Shilling is awesome.

For me to poop on.

-d

PS: META: Want to know how I know Asher? My friends and I won his contest to reproduce one of his comics in real life. See the original here:

It isn't undetectable, per se, but it would run from the server side, so I don't think I would be able to capture it from here. I also don't know if it's browser-specific, although it very well could be, and since I'm on a Mac and running Safari, I may never encounter the redirection.

I just got the redirect on Safari.

It has to be on purpose. And the anagram of MySpace in the comments seems very suspicious, but I agree that the PM would likely keep his page public and check it more frequently than the jhendler we see on MySpace. However, it is quite a coincidence for there to be a jhendler.

If we're looking for a blog, though, I'm not sure I'd call MySpace that. It offers a blogging option, but it's more commonly considered a personal page. People don't often refer to their MySpace pages as their blogs.

Eh. I'm at a loss. What other clues can we grasp at?

New thought: What if one of us just sends a link to nomoreparents in a message to the MySpace jhendler and asks if he's ever seen it before? *shrugs* Reaching out in the dark, here!

Final thought before heading out: Just sent a message to him asking whether he's the same J. Hendler who is interested in solar flares. Also sent apologies if he's the wrong guy. Laughing

Okay -- off I go, back to the real world. Rolling Eyes

I confess that like Mokey Fraggle I have sent an email to the myspace jhendler in an attempt to push this forward but agree with Shellshock612 that you would expect more activity if this was the blog we were looking for. I have also sent emails to IllegitiminoncarborundumSPLATnomoreparents.com and to DJ at fullofhopeSPLATmac.com but nothing has been forthcomming.

Big thanks to Big Larry by the way for explaining that the redirection could intentional but unviewable in the source code, I am so tech-shy it's scary and loved danman_d's lego recreation, not suprising you won my friend.

I take back everything I have said. I have just received a mysterious email from DJ that reads

Hey dude?sorry again about the accidental email. but you should check
the site out... the comments are what get me.

I aborts, dj

And it will not escape your attention that I aborts is orbitas in anagram form. It could be, as suggested, that there is a link to a myspace 'blog' in there somewhere. The urban dictonary notes that, as a member has identified, one of the replies is from ecapsym. The urban dictionary notes that this means:

My Space spelled backwards. It's used as a secret code to say myspace. The history of ecapsym is that kids at school would get in trouble for saying My space so they just simply say it backwards Smile

It may be worth noting that this entry ends with a smiley face as does the header from no moreparents.com.

There is certainly something to be had in the comments on the blog.[/quote]

Hi! Smile I was wondering if you are by any chance the JHendler who is interested in Solar Flares? If not, sorry for the inconvenience!

-- Mokey

So I'm taking that as a "No." Confused

FizzCharlson, normally I'd wonder whether something was actually wrong with the PMs or the game in general at this point, but we did seem to be given a launch date of Father's Day (just a couple of days ago), so I'm just going to believe we've been slow-going with understanding our clues.

However, I'd definitely appreciate any nudges the PMs would like to give us at this point! They'd make me feel less like a blundering moron, blindly wandering the Internet. Wink

Things are developing rapidly now.
I replied to 'DJ' asking if any of the comments in particular had attracted his attention, he replied:

There's no chance we can find this DJ's MySpace page, is there?
