It's linked at the bottom of the page. When you mouseover the dot, you see 1.18, the newspaper pictured here, makes reference to Jan 18.

We had known about the picture, but the correlation to the newspaper is new. Awesome.

18th, yes. January, no. I think that's a coincidence. Smile

FWIW, the text about janus now at 6op1libra.com is taken from this page which was linked to from my contact page.

I had previously remarked that the newspaper (http://www.6op1libra.com/ap_isltimes_527.jpg) had bleed through text. This is nothing, apparently - the actual image is generated from http://www.fodey.com/generators/newspaper/snippet.asp which includes the text as well. Thanks to MasterCheese for the find :)

Uhhhh, WTF. This game just got odd. Informatics at Sussex Uni is my old dept - did CS & AI there, still know a fair few people. They do a lot of evolution stuff.

Thought it was base64, but wrong character set. Think it might be PGP encyrpted or something...

I tried Base64, too, and found just a tiny piece that translates:

Sorry - I discovered what the "code" was - see this post - but I think I was gibbering too much to make it clear enough.

The "code" is my PGP public key, taken from this page. Purpose of quoting it to me? No idea. I've mailed Eric back suggesting that he gives me a public key of his own if he wants secure comms. (Otherwise, anybody could decrypt stuff I'd encoded with my private key.. I think...)

(Addendum): The Raven reference ("Nevermore") was a comment I added years ago. I'm hoping that's another (spooky) coincidence. You can check the key by going to the openPGP server and searching for "exmosis".

New email from Eric, I asked who the Raven was (digging to see if Scribe is a spanky lil mole):

Quote:
There is no raven. There is only Nevar as far as I know - from what
little I know. Interested to see how people found out about any of
this at all. I want no part of it anymore.

Nevar is a name? Hmm.

Thoughts on the grid

A few observations on the 'data matrix'

The rows and columns have a pattern to the widths - a 3px row/column followed by 2 2px, then another 3px, this repeats throughout.

There is an obvious mirroring of the top half of the image to the bottom half - there is a T shape in the top left and bottom right corners.
A rotation of the top half of the image 180° around the point 303,298 seems to almost match it. However, the noted 2/3px pattern is taken into account, so the two halves are not an exact match.

The pattern is probably the result of a standard 2D barcode type, something this complex is unlikely to have been created by hand.

I'll add to this that I've tried the basic alternatives such as overlaying the image (so the white shines through) to see if it isn't actually a barcode.
I've also run it through a couple of 2D barcode scanners, they couldn't get anything.

There were 2 Nick's at Magpie/Runtime, but both have left. Maybe this is what "Both are gone" refers to. (Credit to Mason for ringing Magpie up and asking a lot of questions on this front Wink )

Fortunately there are some leads we can follow up, and plenty of other puzzles/codes to get our teeth into...

I can't say what nevar is - that is some how tied to the code. All I
know is there will be a location - a key - and then a place that key
works. The next location, what "form" the key takes, and how it will
be used is a mystery to me still. I am an unfortunate pawn in a game
full of rooks and knights. There are people watching all the time.
They know more than I do - you could be one of them - I just get
messages.

So, this seems like it could turn out to be quite a big ARG.
