I ran stegdetect against this image and am getting a "false positive likely" message instead of the usual "negative". Thought it was worth mentioning.

I'm curious to where this picture was taken from. If the star at the center of the glyph is Sol then obviously the image is fake.

But maybe it was taken from earth.

this site allows you to create your own sky maps. you can also map the sky for certain times.
but I think this would be very very very diff...impossible to line up the servers image to something in the sky.

[Possible Fall of Reach Spoilers ahead]

I recall reading in Fall of Reach (read: spoiler) that the master cheif saw a symbol that looked very familiar to him. Also, Cortana saw that same symbol later on after the attack on reach and used that symbol to find a point in space where halo was located. It seems to me that the symbol was never really described (if it was, not very well).

I believe that this is one of those symbols that pinpoints a spot in space where something the forerunners considered significant is located (possibly another halo, a shield world, or even the possibility from a certain perspective, the coordinates for the ark on earth, though doubtful the last one may be)

Just wanted to put my two cents in. I've been following and finally found an opportunity to assist.

Edit: spelling

As large and vast as the Halo Universe is, this could be a picture of seperate clusters or even GALAXIES.

I believe what Cortana used to get the coordinants to the first Halo was an artifact that they found on Reach which had some very strange properties. It was either the artifact it self of the room which housed the artifact that gave the coordinants. I believe the artifact was referred to as the Cort de Azur (my spelling may be off here, haven't read the Fall of Reach in almost 3 years).

I find it curious that the glyph is a variation on the normal one.

I don't know if this means anything, but I extended the spires of the symbol out. This may be too punnish, but if we're looking for an "ark" maybe we should concentrate on the missing "arc" from the symbol.

That's brilliant. Perhaps this new 'glyph' will lead us in our next direction.

Reaching for straws: Perhaps this new variation should be layed over something else and the extended arm/circle will point to something important.

The change in the glyphs look to me as though something has been unlocked.

Cort de Azur was actually the city that had the spartan team had infultrated. In the artifact though were symbols (the artifact was kind of see throughish, if i remember), and these were what MC thought he kind of recognized, both on site and durring the debreifing from ONI. At the time, Cortana hadn't actually seen the artifact because Cortana didn't join the cheif until his training on reach (for a day or so) and then later after finding the first halo. She had to look up what the artifact was after listening on the recording of what took place durring the debreifing (being Cortana and her very nosy self, she found what the artifact looked like). Even then she didn't understand what they meant or were, just that they looked firmiliar to her just as they did to MC. It then clicked when she was told to get an escape vector per the cole protocol and decided her random vector wouldn't be so random after all.

if you remember the loading icon from the server hallway site thingy, it was the symbol with a rotating arm, very similar to the "new glyph" so i think you may be onto something.

Not at ALL!!!

If you look at that pic, isn't the placement of the glyph odd. If it was the most important thing there, it would be in the middle of the pic.

Now that you mention it, it looks as if we should be looking towards the top left and then later towards the top right. Easter Egg Hunt!!!
