What is that new, small circle by the end of the new open arc? Correspond to any tool used for charting a voyage based on the stars?

Re: [Possible Fall of Reach Spoilers ahead]

I recall reading in Fall of Reach (read: spoiler) that the master cheif saw a symbol that looked very familiar to him. Also, Cortana saw that same symbol later on after the attack on reach and used that symbol to find a point in space where halo was located. It seems to me that the symbol was never really described (if it was, not very well).

I believe that this is one of those symbols that pinpoints a spot in space where something the forerunners considered significant is located (possibly another halo, a shield world, or even the possibility from a certain perspective, the coordinates for the ark on earth, though doubtful the last one may be)

Just wanted to put my two cents in. I've been following and finally found an opportunity to assist.

Edit: spelling

A few problems with this theory:

1) Only a team of professional Astrologists could possibly figure out where this star map is supposed to reference XD Unless, as a few people have stated, this is a view from the perspective of Earth. Even then, though, it'd be difficult
2) The symbol encompasses the size of about five or six galaxies (Assuming that's what those orbs of light are). A halo can't possibly be that big.

I'm pulling this out of thin air but Hubble Deep Field. It probably has nothing to do with it, but I'd though I'd throw in an opinion.

Would that circle at the end of the arm have anything to do with it? Location of a ring, The Ark, Earth, or something of Forerunner significance?

The two arms pointing towards the top left (one with the circle on it) reminds me of a tool for navigation at sea. Google.

I've had this happen to me before, but i can't say that i know why it does this. just sounds like they got a little sloppy is all.

Also, i agree with you LordIllidan about figuring out what the map is a map of. as for the second part of your post, it seems like the symbol is more of a name or label, while the little tiny circle on the end is the thing the label is labeling (just looks like that to me anyhow). For all i know forerunners don't work like that.

Hmmm... is it me, or is the majority of those orbs clustered around the glyph?

Not just you, i see it to.

have we considered these might not be stars? haven't stars so far been shown as sparkly things? it's called starimage, but at the same time could that be there to throw us off (first arg, unsure of if they like to do that kind of thing-throwing us off)

Another thing I've noticed:

This also may just be my imagination, but the orbs look as if they are being pulled towards the location of the glyph, gravitationally or otherwise.

Black Hole, maybe?

EDIT: Also, the same glyph appears on the back of the Forerunner Server... but backwards D:

The do seem to increase in concentration the closer you get to the glyph. A black hole would do that.

I think it could be referencing the Array Recorder doc we got. At the top it says
Quote:
[<array> 3 minutes 5 seconds]
{c-match-reconfirmed}. Sphere secure to .1889 of passing fleet. Offensive tactics confirmed.
Feint tactics in limited push.
<Array>

The glyph could the "Sphere" that the recorder is talking about. The orbs could be explosions or most likely the glow from a star ships engines. Thats my two cents,

How would you make a pic transparent in order to overlay it on another pic?

Throw it on a separate layer in photoshop. There should be a slider to adjust opacity right above the list of layers.

starry night tv ad connection
maybe.....

i was watching the starry night tv ad to see if there were any clues, and it looks like the starimage and the sky from the ad correlate reasonably well....

** Grasping for straws late at night... Very Happy **

EDIT: The area inside the circle (specifically the four stars that are somewhat in a circle/hexagon are the ones that really match...)
