augustine initiated another chat with me. please excuse all the nonsensical cryptic banter:

augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com wrote:
Augustine says:
Have you been promoted to field commander then?
Augustine says:
That's the rumbling at the water cooler.
Reedus says:
I'm more of the "'overzealous young cadet" type
Augustine says:
Ah.
Augustine says:
Well... as the Mission Statement states:
Augustine says:
ALL MAY PASS
Augustine says:
I guess that includes you cadet types too
Reedus says:
did the rumbling come from a higher up, perhaps?
Augustine says:
Yeah, you'd be surprised how much they rumble up there
Reedus says:
hah
Augustine says:
or maybe you wouldn't
Reedus says:
word spreads quickly
Augustine says:
They mean well
Augustine says:
but intention is not everything
Reedus says:
mouths aren't just for eating and drinking, apparently
Reedus says:
although I might be the best example of that
Augustine says:
Sometimes you need to intend well AND do well, but sometimes not.
Reedus says:
at this point, I don't assume intentions matter much
Augustine says:
Nah
Augustine says:
What matters is following the protocol
Augustine says:
and thank god it's simple to follow
Reedus says:
accessing the expense claim forms from home isn't as easy as you would guess
Reedus says:
what with not having my username and password stored on the home computer
Augustine says:
Have you searched for them?
Reedus says:
well, that would have been the first step
Reedus says:
first and only, I'm afraid
Reedus says:
searching lends itself quite generously to frustration
Augustine says:
Mhmm.
Reedus says:
I notice the company logo is looking a bit faded these days
Augustine says:
Our foreign security counterparts are diffucult to understand at times...
Augustine says:
but they know what they are doing.
Reedus says:
obviously
Augustine says:
We often get put in the position of being interpreter.
Augustine says:
Unfortunately, they don't run a help desk for this sort of thing.
Reedus says:
indeed...it amazes me that latin is still used these days
Augustine says:
Indeed.
Augustine says:
But with World affairs being what they are...
Augustine says:
dead languages offer a fresh breeze of neutrality, I suppose...
Augustine says:
but you would have to ask them.
Augustine says:
BUT...
Reedus says:
hmm...I figured swiss would make more sense, what with the whole neutrality business
Augustine says:
you're probably having a hard time contacting them directly, no?
Augustine says:
due to your server inaccessability issues?
Reedus says:
well yes, that would be the most immediate problem at present time
Augustine says:
One of those chicken vs. egg dilemmas I suppose.
Reedus says:
chicken almost seems to be the theme of the day
Augustine says:
Mmmm.
Reedus says:
never had buttered chicken myself
Reedus says:
or if I have, perhaps we have a different name for it in the states
Augustine says:
It's much different than it sounds
Augustine says:
more of a curry.
Reedus says:
I love thai curry
Reedus says:
so if it's anything like that...
Augustine says:
Wow, yeah, me too
Augustine says:
I like both.
Augustine says:
But rarely at the same time.
Reedus says:
that makes sense
Reedus says:
I like chocolate and cabbage
Reedus says:
so about my server inaccessibility issues...
Augustine says:
I imagine you mean that you like both those things, but not together...
Augustine says:
one or the other?
Reedus says:
I suppose becoming "more accessible" would be a step in the right direction
Reedus says:
correct, not together
Augustine says:
Correct, that makes sense.
Reedus says:
I could use some assistance with improving the server accessibility
Augustine says:
You have the key. What other assistance could I possibly provide?
Reedus says:
are you familiar with murgh makhani, by the way?
Augustine says:
There you go - butter chicken.
Reedus says:
Smile
Reedus says:
being told that I already have the key isn't as reassuring as it may sound
Reedus says:
especially when I'm not quite sure where it is
Reedus says:
but I suppose I'll (continue to) do my best looking for it
Augustine says:
Just remember who made the key and maybe you'll have an easier time recognizing it. Good luck!
Reedus says:
by the way, I've been told you don't want anyone knowing where you'll be going on vacation, but might you tell us when you'll be back?
Augustine says:
Well, the powers that be managed to track me down...
Reedus says:
oh, you've left already!
Augustine says:
so unfortunately (for me) my vacation won't be one of those "out-of-touch" types, as I had hoped.
Augustine says:
I'm on my way to the City, as we speak.
Reedus says:
well, I'll do my best to exercise restraint when pestering you
Reedus says:
hopefully, next time you hear from me, I'll have those expense reports ready for you
Augustine says:
Great!
Reedus says:
enjoy your time in "the city"
Augustine says:
Don't make me track you down.
Reedus says:
haha
Augustine says:
It's my neck on the line too.
Augustine says:
Cheers!
Reedus says:
ciao!

he's trying (and failing! ha!) to prod me in the right direction. I'll have to soak it all in and weed through the useless stuff.

doing a search for the postal code reveals it to be canada, but isn't IL an abbreviation for israel? are these just red herrings? in any case, I sent an email to that address, but I have a feeling it's just augustine's alternate address.

I've bee lurking since this all started, but it really caught my attention. I compiled a list of everything seemingly important that's happened from the beginning... It's entirely possible that I've left stuff out, so feel free to correct what's wrong.

+This morning, www.highfivegame.com said:
"Why is a raven like a writing desk?"
Also, the description was: "42 1 18 76"

Currently, it says:
"06
Palmer Was Here.
Counting: 1442
You are not expected to find it.
Give up.
"

There is also the found.jpg, showing an open book with a few diagrams.

None of this has been answered yet..

+Currently, www.6op1libra.com says:
"Janus had two faces, one looking forwards and one looking back, since a door can let you in, or let you out.
Volg het Witte Konijn nadat u zijn voet vindt
"

The translation of the last part (from Dutch) says, "Follow the White Rabbit after you its foot find."

We've found an entire rabbit... but no foot.

The Janus they are talking about is the Roman god of doorways, beginnings, and endings. He's also what the month of January is named after... and he has a face on both sides of his head (one in back and one behind).

There is also the black and white graphic, which we haven't done anything with yet.

+Eric said, back on page 3 of this thread, "I can't say what nevar is - that is some how tied to the code. All I know is there will be a location - a key - and then a place that key works."
This hasn't been answered yet either, but probably has to do with the un/pw to www.nomennescio.com.
Also, when asked about raven, Eric mentioned that he didn't know anything about a raven, only nevar. But as mentioned, www.highfivegame.com had a riddle involving a raven this morning.

+Something Augustine mentioned in conversation to Reedus:
"Just remember who made the key and maybe you'll have an easier time recognizing it. Good luck!"
There is a literal key in the owl's left wing on www.nomennescio.org.

+On Augustine's blog, under www.nomennescio.org, it says:
"1. A Constant Speed of Light"

+The file names of the different gifs we recieved:
life1cs0
life8yu8
life5yz0
life2ea2
life4fe9
Thinking maybe "csyuyzeafe" means/anagrams to something?

+The name of the www.nomennescio.org image is "Litmus".
A litmus test has a few meanings:
chemical: using dye to test materials for acisity
political: "a question asked of a potential candidate for high office, the answer to which would determine whether the nominating official would choose to proceed with the appointment or nomination [wikipedia]"
colloquial: "any kind of social indicator used to classify someone either favorably or unfavorably [wikipedia]"
the Litmus Test of Medjugorje: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litmus_Test_of_Medjugorje

+The "es Ci" on the image is in grey. [no menn/es ci/o]

Hope this helps, or at least makes things a little more organized.

Augustine's latest blog has a comment from Numerius Negidius. Wikipedia says it means "one who denies (negat) that he should pay (numerare)".

There's also a new link to a specific page of the Canadian Design Resource: http://www.canadiandesignresource.ca/officialgallery/?cat=44

And a photo called "faceless", but it doesn't actually show up.

Ok, having been to Augustine's blog page again, it's showing a couple of updates since I went to bed last night. There's a link to http://www.canadiandesignresource.ca/officialgallery/?cat=44, an avatar, and (for me) a non-existent picture under the category of 'Faceless' - it's showing as 1 of 0 pictures and is blank.

Edit: beaten to it Smile

OK, I had a quick chat with Augustine (chopped slightly for brevity):

Quote:

08:06:56 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: Morning
08:07:13 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: Mhmm.
08:07:36 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: Why did you mail me?
08:09:11 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: Your contact info was passed through appropriate security channels, I believe. I apologize if we were mistaken.
08:10:23 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: Hmm. Mistakes and Plans are rarely easily to separate.
08:10:36 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: Perhaps you had a question that wasn't answerable?
08:10:47 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: I'm grasping at straws here...
08:11:17 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: I have many questions, most of them probably unanswerable.
08:11:40 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: and a similar straw situation
08:12:35 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: Do yo know Eric or Nick?
08:12:38 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: you*
08:13:09 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: It's a big world, so surely I couldn't say for sure.
08:14:03 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: I think I should wake up now...
08:14:14 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: If you were more specific...
08:14:16 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: Glad to hear the dog was ok in the end Smile
08:14:43 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: perhaps I could better delineate my affiliations?
08:14:49 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: Thanks!
08:14:55 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: a Nick that is/was living in Brighton, England?
08:15:20 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: No.
08:15:39 exmosisSPLAThotmail.com: or an Eric Hachlinksi?
08:15:46 augustine_asimovSPLAThotmail.com: No.

Not much there, really. This bit intrigues me from a previous conversation though:

Quote:

Reedus says:
what with not having my username and password stored on the home computer
Augustine says:
Have you searched for them?
...
Augustine says:
Our foreign security counterparts are diffucult to understand at times...

Maybe Google is our friend again on this one?

so we're looking for two things here a user name and a password, how about Anonymous as a username, maybe a backdoor has been left open, as for the password my expertise of dead languages is er none, es ci seems to be the important part.

I just had a conversation on MSN with Art, who is apparently head of All May Pass Security Inc (re: the WHOIS I acquired from nomennesci.org), which was rather interesting.

off-topic: his status on MSN was "Loblaws", which is a great reference to arrested development. Smile

Reedus said:

Art said:
Of course
Reedus said:
so...you're an associate of augustine?
Art said:
ci
Reedus says:
ahh
Art says:
we've collabed in the past on various TGL projects
Art says:
You meant professionally right?
Reedus says:
yeah, it's funny how the company always refers to itself as that...I've found that most people don't seem to even be aware of what it stands for
Art says:
Eww - touchy subject.
Reedus says:
well, I assumed professionally, but I'll take the answer however you prefer to give it
Reedus says:
yeah, I always got the impression that it was a touchy subject. the name, that is
Art says:
I mean, it's not as bad as NAMBLA or anything, but TGL ruffles the feathers of a few
Reedus says:
which is why people hardly ever speak of it
Art says:
Not exactly social conversation
Art says:
Not to mention the breach of protocol
Reedus says:
and I assume you take a similar stance as augustine concerning following protocol
Art says:
Everything falls apart without it
Art says:

Reedus says:

Reedus says:

Reedus says:
probably working for NAMBLA
Art says:
Yikes, I'll keep my current post.
Reedus says:

Art says:

Reedus says:
not bad work if you can get it, I say
Art says:
Not bad for a noname nobody, if you can get it.
Reedus says:
nor for a nomen nescio, either, I imagine
Art says:
I imagine as well.
Reedus says:
well, I'll continue looking through my "pockets" for that "key". I'll be in touch when I get it
Art says:
wonderful
Art says:
adios
Reedus says:
cheers!

no assessment yet. I'm still catching up on the last few posts.

"Ci" as in "Es Ci"? There's a lot of talk of foreign languages and translation going on. "Es Ci" sounds spanish = "is yes"?

There's also quite a references to protocol. I thought this might be something to do with the login protocol for HTTP - maybe it's hackable somehow.

given the banter about latin, I'm almost positive the username and/or password has something to do with the whole no mennes cio. as was stated in an earlier post, nomen nescio (same letters, different spacing) means "noname nobody" (which was even referenced by art himself). of course, those words don't work as username/password either. but I think we're pretty close.

also, re: a constant speed of light - I think it's safe to assume the letter "c" is a suitable answer for that (whenever we're at that step (if we're not already)). finding an exact number to fit that is a bit daunting, as it seems the actual speed of light is different depending on who you ask. in fact, you could even go so far as to say the speed of light isn't constant at all. *rim shot*

"si" is yes in spanish. I'm assuming "ci" is yes in latin, though. I did notice that hint, but I have yet to follow up on it any more.

check it out: the attached image is art's MSN avatar. it's also the second to last image on the canadian design resource page. its caption reads:

I'm just a little newbie, but I would love to help out here as best I can. Something that sticks out for me is:

1: This guy is definitly Canadian. Obvious, but sure.

2: For some reason, I am drawn to the tag. I dunno why. Maybe Aquarelle is the username and 3411 is the password, I dunno.

3: Maybe "Es Ci" is French. Canada has two languages, one being french and one being english, after all.
