Maybe it's a path that is set by the bacteria. Then again virus' don't really have a set path do they? It could mean that it is somehow spreading, but where?

This is killing me only because it's like the 10th time I've seen it. Bacteria and viruses are wholly different types of organisms. I see a lot of posters confusing the two as if they are interchangeable.

I only mention it because Bungie is typically careful about details, and I don't think they would have simply glossed over the distinction. I would have guessed the flood had its origins as a virus -- it behaves like one, destroying the host organism -- but nonetheless they are clearly pointing us to a bacteria.

I don't have one either but it definitely looks like it matches. It also looks like the red one on the far right matches with the middle blue on. The one on the left though doesn't match with anything but the strands on the end of it almost looks like it binds or converges with something else

A bit like that? trying to work out how the other things fit, but have to get on with some work! lol

I'll let someone else try and figure it out.

I see it! The paths all fit in those spaces. The biggest blog shape should fit right in, but if it doesn't, flip it 180. The long piece should fit by flipping it 180 and filling it in on the black on the right.

I believe it does say somewhere that the flood acts a lot like a virus does. Maybe Strep throat has some sort of connection to the flood. Maybe it was an early sign of the flood. Perhaps it behaves like the flood. The covenant call the flood "parasite" and a lot of virus' (if not all) have some sort of parasidical (is that a word? lol) activity in them. Virus' need a host to gather information and spread, much like virus' do. When the flood starves, it dies, get the parallels? I'm gonna do some research on strep while you guys work on the photo and see if i can find anything useful.

Ps try flipping the long red piece and fit it with the miidle blue one.

With all the paths filled in on their appropriate spot, it only leaves that strip of blue. What importance is that strip of blue though? Maybe some geographical location?

Move that bottom blob to line up with the ridges right next to it. . . it looks like it fits in place there. (I'd do it, but I'm at work, blah)

Note that the Flood do emit spores; not only has this been stated in game dialog, but we can see these spores in both games. Sporulation isn't a viral trait, but it is a bacterial trait.

I'll speculate that the Flood plague is the result of a two-stage pathogen; a virus and a bacterium in symbiosis. The bacteria provide a hardy vector for the virii's transmission into hosts, which tackles the host's immune system and allows the bacteria to reproduce too. These then combine to recreate the Infection forms out of the host's virally-rewritten tissues.

Eugh.

Two of the shapes had to overlap, one of them (on the left) had to be scaled.

So is this some kind of location shown here? Looks alot like a type of peninsula and then a bay with an island (although maybe the island is omitted along with other two blobs?)

Great Analysis Steve! I actually think that may be what the flood are actually compromised of. But the evolution of a sentient bacteria gravemind (Gravemind) is extremely scary.

Thishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streptococcus_pyogenes#Treatment

Led to thishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necrotizing_fasciitis

Don't know if it's relevant but it contains the origin and all the sub virus' that go along with it. I found " potentially life-threatening condition requiring surgical treatment." and "commonly known as "flesh-eating bacteria" with symptoms such as trauma, very interesting.

Try flipping the red piece that wide at the top and skinny at the bottom, to match the blue piece in the middle that's wide at the top and skinny at the bottom. i'm convinced it will match.

Great work Steve.

I'm left wondering now if we were supposed to find those guides or if it was just a tool they used to create the pic.

If we were: What's the significance? There's some rather perfectly spherical bits in the overlapped region. Why is the "island" shaded? Maybe where the guides cross the scales on the right and bottom has something? /reach

If we weren't: Then they're probably not going to help us. Rolling Eyes
