Bacteria

This may be a bit to realistic (hardcore), but the pic may be of
Streptococcus pyrogens bacteria ...

There are many different strains, causing differing syptoms.

Here's an idea, because I haven't seen it floated around before. We don't really know the biological design of the Flood, but we do know that they "infect" hosts. As players of the game, we see the larger physical Flood, but they operate at a cellular level like micro-organisms in order to facilitate the process.

We may not know the biological design of the flood but given what we know and what occurs it's pretty easy to come up with a feasible method of infection and transformation.
The Flood infect hosts by physically entering the host, attaching to the CNS of the host and commandeering the hosts' body, basically they unplug portions of your brain from your body and take over those functions. It then utilizes the biological resources of said host to become a part of the flood.
[Spec]Most likely means of creating such massive cellular change within the host would be to drastically alter the hosts's DNA. The best way I can think of doing this would be for the flood to release it's own DNA, RNA, mRNA etc. into the host once it has control of that hosts Nervous system and command of the body.

WIth all this bacteria about it keeps making my mind coming back to the Halo novel first strike. in it there is an explaination of Sgt Johnson's survival from the flood in Halo one.

If I remember right, As a result of being too near a crate of plasma grenades as it went off, Johnson had developed some sort of condition where the flood did not like him as a host body. I believe there are a few people who know of that condition at the time, the Master Chief, Dr, Halsey, and Johnson himself.

Whether or not the UNSC knows of this fact is unclear, but in the beginning of Halo 2, when the Master Gunnery Sargent who does the Master Chiefs new armor orienatation asks Johnson how he survives, Johnson says it's classifide.

This could perhaps play a major part in this chapter of Halo since it may provide a means to combat the flood without using the HALOs.

Well, you both have to consider that the infection form is not the smallest possible form of the Flood. We see at least two smaller forms in the Halo games: one is the spore (apparently harmless to other lifeforms, as it just makes big mushroom-like shapes that more Flood grow in, but it's possible they can infect a human as well and grow an Infection form inside) and the second is only seen once. It is a small form, probably no bigger than a bug, floating around in a tank. I suspect that this is how infections are made when no Infection forms are around--these little guys could move around far more unnoticed than the larger ones.

I remember watching an episode of Horizon on the BBC that was about I think it was called the phage virus, in the Ukraine samples of a virus would be exposed to massive amounts of bacteria, I think it was sewage, and the end result was supposedly useful for developing immunity.

It was a long time ago, unsure of the terminology but maybe we getting a chance to develop a weapon against the flood.

Or having skybruin interrupt my train of thought, immunity against the flood.

thanks skybruin Very Happy

Hot Zone is about other Ebola strains, but Marburg is mentioned.

Ebola (as a whole family) is the scariest disease on the planet. I'd take AIDS in a second.

I admit it. I haven't Embarassed
I should sometime. My roommate's got it, no reason not to, really. And if I plan on following this, that's actually a reason to do it.

Play Halo 1, read the novels, get versed on Ilovebees, play Halo 2, then read the graphic novel... all before September 25 Wink

Aren't the Hunters built on this sort of biological level? Aren't they a worm colony in armor or something? I forget.

Anyway, it would be a sign that Bungie goes for the colony type of organism.

Yes, the hunters are big orange worm colonies with armor.
