Here's the map on his background. It was also Art's icon.

The detail makes it hard to tell, but I'd guess it was a schematic for an AC powered, 2-tube audio amplifier or public address system.
The grounded plug puts it in the mid-sixties or later vintage.
But I wonder if it's not just part of a style template available in that community.

I didn't know Eric Hachlinski had an MSN account. I've been speaking to him on Googletalk - that's news to me.

The image on Aulu's (EL Cinco) site is a quipu.

Quipu is spanish for 'knot'.

Quipu's were used for census and tax accounting and for counting items that should be bought or sold and basic numerical data (like an abacus). They were also used to track or time events.

Apologies for the triple post....

It's a Chimera.

Quote:
Homer's brief description in the Iliad[1] is the earliest literary reference: "a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle, and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire". Hesiod's Theogony follows the Homeric description: he makes the Chimera the issue of Echidna: "She was the mother of Chimaera who breathed raging fire, a creature fearful, great, swift-footed and strong, who had three heads, one of a grim-eyed lion; in her hinderpart, a dragon; and in her middle, a goat, breathing forth a fearful blast of blazing fire. Her did Pegasus and noble Bellerophon slay"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_%28genetics%29

Quote:
In zoology, a chimera is an animal that has two or more different populations of genetically distinct cells that originated in different zygotes; if the different cells emerged from the same zygote, it is called a mosaicism.

Chimeras are formed from four parent cells (two fertilized eggs or early embryos fuse together) or from three parent cells (a fertilized egg is fused with an unfertilized egg or a fertilized egg is fused with an extra sperm). Each population of cells keeps its own character and the resulting animal is a mixture of mis-matched parts. An analogy is two jigsaw puzzles cut using an identical cutter, but with different pictures. A single puzzle can be made out of the mis-matched parts, but the completed puzzle will show parts of both different pictures.

This condition is either acquired through the infusion of allogeneic hematopoietic cells during transplantation or transfusion or it is inherited. In fraternal twins, chimerism occurs by means of blood-vessel anastomoses. The likelihood of a child being a chimera is increased if the child is created via in vitro fertilization. Chimeras can often breed, but the fertility and type of offspring depends on which cell line gave rise to the ovaries or testes.

ETA: and I'd get redct on the case of solving the AA3 port mystery.

I'm already on it Very Happy

EDIT: If anyone needs it, here's a complete list of ports, as assigned by the IANA (they're basically the ones who approve all of this, like the W3C for HTML). http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers

OK, here are my AA3 findings:

Keeping with the computer and security-ish theme of some of this, AA3 can mean Accident Analysis Computer Program. It's also American Airlines Flight 3. Maybe someone's going to get on it/something's going to happen with it? It's currently flying JFK-LAX (New York to Los Angeles).
______________
As a port number, it could mean port 113 (if you take a=1), which is auth/identd.

Auth/Ident servers — which are supposed to run on the local user's machine — open port 113 and listen for incoming connections and queries from remote machines. These querying machines provide a local and remote "port pair" describing some other already-existing connection between the machines. The user's "ident" server is tasked with looking up and returning the connection's "USER ID" and perhaps additional information, such as an eMail address, full name, or whatever. (grc.com)
______________
I also did a port scan on nomennescio.org (again) and noticed that now, port 8080 is open, serving HTTP. Of course, I went there, but it was a blank page. Nothing in the source, either.

It's also been mentioned that there's an FTP server. Seems I can't download anything being anonymous. The old nobody/all combo didn't work either. (Think that's already been mentioned.)

One thing of note is that I can telnet into most of the ports like email, IMAP, etc, but you can't really do anything.

There's an HTTPS server but it just redirects to http

Most importantly, there's an SSH server. We might find a user/pass later that lets us get in.

Not much AA3 info, I know

I've been trying to add /el2rdun._ _ _ to the www.momennescio.org/lists with several different extensions to no avail. I've tried all the common image extensions (jpg, gif, bmp, psd, png) and sound extensions (mp3, wav, aif, wma). still working on more extensions.

AA3 said it on MSN to me. I can't figure it out. I've tried both with and without lists: jpg, bmp, gif, htm, doc, txt, png, pdf...
