Those notes just convince me even further that I'm onto something.

Stealing not only characters but entire stories. Maybe so that if you take away the classics, the real Fforde's books are no longer interesting, but the imposter Ffforde's books will have all of these classic characters in them...

What do you think?

Sorry Sarah, didn't see your post while I was writing mine. Those emails, and that blog for that matter, sound decidedly odd, and have some terrible grammar. Not that mine's great, but really! When I first looked at that blog, it didn't sound right, but I've not had time to look at it all yet. It certainly seems that there is at least one impostor involved in all this, and it looks likely there's a fraudulent Fforde as well as duplicate Havi/ersham.

Googling that address tells me that it belongs to Perry Clayman Employment Agency. Confused

Perry Clayman Employment Agency have a website, which seems to be genuine.

WHOIS gives:

Registrant:
Perry Clayman Agency
330 High Holborn
London, London WC1V 7QT
GB

Domain Name: PCLAYMAN.COM
Created on: 12-AUG-97
Expires on: 11-AUG-12
Last Updated on: 18-MAY-07

One thing I noticed was the address given for them on their site is as above (330, and not 31-33). Probably nothing though.

S'ok. Smile

The grammar seemed odd to me too. I've spoken to Jasper before, and I'll tell you now; it's definitely not him. Well, not how he usually speaks anyway (obviously, he could be taking the mick and putting on an 'accent', as it were, or something, but I don't mean that).

Perry Clayman's website is http://www.pclayman.com/ but I agree it looks fairly legit, if a little heavy on the flash. Smile

Oh! I had a quick look at the emails from the ffraudulent Ffforde posted on Haversham's blog. That one that gives the address says to send copies of the Thusday Next books to Nikit. Seems appropriate for a plagiarist/thief. (Nikit = nick it, as in steal).

I agree it doesn't sound like him (at least, I don't remember him speaking like that at the Fforde Ffestival).

No, Jasper is a very well educated man!

Another thing the blog gives us is the ffraudulent Ffforde's email address...

jasperfffordeSPLATgooglemail.com

Anyone think we should drop him a line? Wink

Oh yes, and another thought.

In the first email from June, which reads thus, if anyone is interested:

Quote:
It has been pointed out to me by my boss that the last question on the
first part of the quiz has the wrong answer let you win instead of the
right answer. She said lots of people have emailed to say that it
isn't right that they have to give a wrong answer to win. I'm very
confused that the answer is wrong in the quiz. Of course the book is
called First among sequels! Did you email in? If you did, don't worry,
you don't lose any points if you gave the right answer before the
wrong one.

That last question and the scribbler tie-breaker were two of the
things that Mr. Fforde had us put in at the last moment, so I am very
surprised that the question was wrong, because he checked them
himself.
Oh dear, this is all going a bit wrong, this is my first job and I'm
starting to get the impression I'm not expected to last long here.
I've never worked in a publishing house office before, it's all a bit
overwhelming. Have you ever worked in an office? can you give me any
advice on how to not get 'the boot'?

June mentions that 'Jasper' asked for the suspect question and the scribbler tie-breaker to be added at the last minute. Also, the emails from ffake Ffforde say that he is enjoying reading the tie-breaker answers and that he wants more.

Maybe parts of this book are being constructed by the scribbler entries that people send in? If they tie together, into a big story? Hmm.

Go on, you email! I reckon appeal to his/hers/its ego a bit and see if they'll give us a bit more info on the next Next Laughing

Oh dear, all this wordiness is getting to me. I think since I've been up since 6:30, and spent nigh on 5 hours staring at books on shelves, it's high time I went to sleep. Though I am worried what all this is going to do to my dreams!

OK, I've emailed. Went on a bit about how I love the Next books and would love to hear a bit about the new book which I've heard is coming out soon, blah blah. We'll see if I get a reply! Smile

You know, reading those ffake Ffforde emails, they sound sort of Engrish, like they've been stuck through an online translator or something. Or as if English is not the writer's first language. Very strange.

They definitely sound like someone who doesn't know the language very well. Kind of like the scam emails that you get, actually! Maybe ffake Ffforde is Nigerian? Wink

No reply from either of my emails yet, boo. Obviously publishing employees and ffake authors don't get up early on a sunday! Laughing

I was thinking more along the lines of someone mentally stuck at being a toddler / young kid rather than a foreign language--it reads like the overenthusiastic lying you hear from kids when they don't know when to stop.

Could we be dealing with a highly powerful, highly immature prankster? (not familiar with the Ffordian universe, but it seems very cool--I'll have to check it out soon)

Do you mean in-game, or OOG?

There's plenty of room for pranksters in game. Any of the Hades family, for a start, especially one of the more under-appreciated brothers or sisters. Aornis is supposed to be in First Amongst Sequels, though she's very clever and devious.

Definitely in-game. This is too immersed within the storyline to be some OOG griefer. Interesting to hear there's a group of people characters who'd behave that way, though.

(And damn, this campaign has totally worked for me--I really want to read some Fforde books now)
