UPDATE Jakes Blog 1-21

Quote:
January 21, 2004
Boom!
The concussive force rattled my walls. I'm not sure if the force of the explosion knocked me out of my chair or if I jumped from the unexpected blast. Within moments, every emergency vehicle in town was headed into the desert and I could see a column of smoke and ash in the distance.

I tried to reach Harker thinking he might have a police band radio. No answer there. After signing off, I threw on my jacket and boots and followed the trucks. I drove like a bat out of hell hoping to get close enough to see exactly what happened. Unfortunately, a contingent of marines had barricaded the road preventing both the curious and the rescue workers from accessing the scene.

I did manage to get a couple of pictures. They aren't great, but you can see a huge amount of smoke coming off the fire. I used a filter hoping to obtain better contrast in the darkness.

Ground zero looks like it was the far side of the current excavation. It seems to have been about 100 yards past the fence. The compound inside the fence was illuminated by gigantic spotlights and workers were swarming like a nest of hornets. I waited around for about an hour hoping for news. Miraculously, there were no injuries or deaths, but officials were silent about the cause of the explosion.

Could be, or they are testing the facility. It seemed that the "explosions" happened with moving things in the same time but to a different location.

**Edit**
Per Jake in chat, the explosion was too small for a time jump. It did, however, collapse a tunnel between the new facility and the one in the mountain.

Found one of the original pics. Don't look if you don't want to spoil the ARG illusion.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

found on this page http://www.nmsu.edu/~english/hc/IMPACTOIL.html

other than some filtering effect, the pic on Jake's blog looks unaltered
