Sarah, once you find out more about Swindon on the 7th, do let us know. I may well be able to make it over there then if you'd like company

Brilliant. As soon as I get more info I'll pass it along. Smile

Oh, and this is the other thread Niebla started on the fforum:

I wonder if that has any relevance at all?

According to a Spec-Ops notice, terrorist and Baconian Action committee member Conrad Margetts was recently released after 20 years of enloopment. The thread you linked to is fairly pro-Francis Bacon. Could Niebla be Conrad? (And is Conrad a book character, or something specifically created for the Spec-Ops page?)

Plus, it's the Swindon division reporting this. Should we report this to Spec Ops?

British Museum library

Well, I've been thinking that I'll check out the British Museum library - rather than the museum as a whole. From the quiz - the story in which the slip of paper is given to someone as a curse was done in the British Museum Library (not the British library as the quiz said). so that's a possibility.

chapter

June Haversham's blog has been updated. She has attached the first draft of the first chapter of First Among Sequels- saying that it was completely re-written, so it doesn't matter if she releases it. I haven't read it yet, but on the page where the previous books are listed, "The Great Samuel Pepys Fiasco" has been crossed out as temporarily unavailable.

So, do we assume that this is the name of the book being written by the false Jasper Ffforde?

excerpt

Yes, me again.

The text includes a bit on pinocchio, then refers to another Thursday Next who is actually fictional who has started with jurisfiction, and is from the Great Samuel Pepys Fiasco. The real Thursday Next hates her because of 'what she did..'.

Hmm.

It also refers to the other Thursday Next books - The Eyre Intrigue, the Well of Half-Finished Plots, Lost in a Favourable book, Something Rubbish... all of which are more sensationalised that the original books. But..it also states:
"The only book that's even remotely close to the truth is the fifth in the series, The Great Samuel Pepys Fiasco - and that's only because Landen and I had to threaten to sue the publishers."

Not sure how closely this resembles the real "First Among Sequels", which is already out at Foyles.

Now I'm off to the museum.

Well, I don't think it's improved my understanding of what is going on much, but I did enjoy reading the extract! Can't wait for the book to come out now. Smile

There was a lot of mention of fictional Thursday Next books, of which the Samuel Pepys Fiasco was the fifth. Perhaps Ffake Ffforde is the author in Thursday's world who writes the fictional Next novels? And he's got into the Outland somehow?

Oh dear... I have a headache. Laughing

Also, Niebla means 'fog' in spanish, if that helps on any level.

Brit Museum

The British Museum Library exists no longer - apparently it was moved ten years ago. The Reading room (which is where I was headed) is shut in preparation for a new exhibit. There is another library there, but it looked very reference-y and not really open to people wandering around (although those more intrepid than myself could try).

So, finding that out pretty much took up my lunch hour.

Thanks for looking anyway! At least it's one more place we can cross off our list. Smile

I've looked at June's latest blog. Apparently ffake Jasper is after those Dupine books, which June leads us to beleive are the ones in Folyes we've been hunting down, the ones with the strange text in. I guess he wants to remove the evidence! I've emailed June and told her not to tell ffake Jasper where they are, and asked if she could tell us instead, so we could 'assess what is in them and whether we should give them to ffake Jasper or not'. Wink

I'll let you know if I get a reply! Very Happy

Reply from Ffforde

Just got this response to my email of yesterday (which accused Ffforde of being an imposter)

Hello.

Jasper Ffforde the real and proper and much famous writer is From The Office Gone at the moment because he has gone to mountainous quiet to finish writing his beautiful book. It already has many of the greatest pages but he needs to be alone time to do the rest of those.

Jasper would very much so hope that you will be able to see and hear his new and wondermuch Thursday Next book be born in SWINDON on July 7th at a Secret Place.

Yours Goodbye

Jasper Ffforde (who is Gone)

I've also written to June, advising her to not tell 'Jasper' yet, but we should get the books together and make a decision then

I'm going to show my psychic skills, and tell you that there will be a new blog message on Amy's blog in the next couple of hours.

Ok, OK - So actually I spoke to Amy on g-chat (the inbuilt chat function of gmail) and she asked me nicely whether she could post the list of books onto her blog (I emailed them to her to see what she thought)

Apparently they answered a few questions - but she didn't say which...

She's still online atm, if anything else comes to light in our convo - I will post it up here aswell

Had a reply from June:

Quote:
Thank you for your advice, I don't know what to do now though, if I stop writing to him I won't find out what he is trying to do, but I don't really want to keep writing to somebody who has been lying to me. I feel really stupid to have been tricked. If you could find the books he wants that would be great - maybe you could find out what he is up to and then I won't have to speak to him again!
Do you live in the UK or know anybody who does? I know there are Dupine books in The Idle Hour in Leeds and the Waterstones bookshops in Reading and Cheltenham.

I'll find the full list and post it up on my blog.

Over to the UK people.

another reply from June

You've gotta be impressed by their individual attention...

My reply from June on the imposter allegation was...

What you say is quite distressing, if the Jasper I have been talking to isn't really the real Jasper then all the things he has asked me to do - like changing the quiz - could all have been part of some horrible joke or prank. How can I tell who is real and who isn't real? Oh dear, I'm so very confused! I won't tell him about Foyles if it is a bad idea, but what about all the Dupine books in the other bookshops around the country?
I could tell him about the ones in the libraries in Scotland because they are so far away from here he won't be able to get to them!

Locations

Is anyone in Leeds or Reading or Cheltenham?

I'm in London, and won't be anywhere near those places in the near future.
