This is what i was hoping I'd read. I'll be patient with it, and I can't wait for things to get going!

Though... is it normal for a game to be dead for five days?

Oh you don't know how normal that is... sometimes the wait is a hell of alot longer Very Happy

Of course I had to chime in. I'm sure the people in chat are ready to kill me regardless.

Expectation aside, I feel that this 'ARG' (if it can even be called that) seems almost...disorganized. I mean, there was a whole 'Battle' on the Halo 3 forums, in which the victor said "you will find out tomorrow" but if I remember correctly it wasn't until the day after 'tomorrow' that the server unlocked. Not to mention the fact that the countdown didn't even "finish" so to speak. They just kinda stopped it at a certain time. Personally I think those coordinates were a coincedence. We've also got a whole website that hasn't even been used and minus one link on an evidence page isn't even being used, this after the fact that there were worldwide promotions to this. Needless to say that anyone brought in by the protests were quickly turned away after nearly a week of inactivity.

Now, with the expectations. I expect more. I won't lie to you. I expect more because Halo 3 is the most hyped, anticipated game of the year, if not ever. I expect more because this 'game' is being overlooked by the same company that overlooked ILB (Bungie). I expect more because Halo 3 is the end of the trilogy, probably one of the most famous in video game history, and therefore I would expect them to go all out (ILB was 'all out' IMO) for the LAST game of the trilogy, not go all out for the second game of the trilogy and then drop the ball on an 'ARG' for the final game.

So I guess my expectations do ruin it, but I hope that this will explode soon.

HHM: Being murdered in the game is a little out of bounds as well, but tis ok.

And yup, I love referencing The Game as well. I take it like this:

"Have you seen the movie The Game?"

If they answer no, I tell them to watch it and then ask this question which I tell them if they say yes:

"What would you think if people did that kind of thing in real life?

pause....cute little grin...

"I do."

That usually freaks them out...

Worked GREAT at work, most everyone had seen it Very Happy

What? Where do you work? Nobody I know, myself included, has seen that movie.

I remember seeing that movie a very long time ago around when it came out (mid 90's I believe), and how I thought it was an incredibly ingenious and original idea. I really like the whole concept of ARGs even tho I am not usualy a participant because there's no way for me to interact with the real world portions.

I also think that part of the reason for dead periods like these, is not only for us to solve any left-over puzzles that the PMs have left us, but also a time for them to analyze what we've done. Since ARGs are very "organic" in nature, that is to say, that there are live people running it instead of being pre-scripted from beginning to end; that they can see what we've done and how we've done it and what we've theorized and suggested. They can then take that information and adapt accordingly, maybe even incorporating more pieces that the comunity came up with (lord knows there are some wild specs out there) and making them part of the game. It takes time to do all that, and I have no doubt that things will pick up again shortly.

Glad to hear some of you supporting "The Game" as a decent explanation. Smile

As with ILB, I have a feeling things are slow to allow those people who aren't on the front of the wave like us to hear about it and participate without missing too much. Even if there's never a puzzle to solve, as a fan of all forms of Halo canon I have to say that these files taken at face value are exciting enough!

I think most of us are in agreement to refrain from reviewing an in-progress ARG. That said, Bungie/Microsoft/PM's...don't let us down! Very Happy
