[Spec] Strange Craft

I know this has been covered in several threads here already, but today this page http://isaaccaret.fortunecity.com/ has been making the rounds on several websites and blogs, and features the same craft that many seem to suspect are part of the Iris campaign. The only thing that caught my eye was this passage

Quote:
But their technology is different. It really did operate like the magical piece of paper sitting on a table, in a manner of speaking. They had something akin to a language, that could quite literally execute itself, at least in the presence of a very specific type of field. The language, a term I am still using very loosely, is a system of symbols (which does admittedly very much resemble a written language) along with geometric forms and patterns that fit together to form diagrams that are themselves functional. Once they are drawn, so to speak, on a suitable surface made of a suitable material and in the presence of a certain type of field, they immediately begin performing the desired tasks. It really did seem like magic to us, even after we began to understand the principles behind it.

Maybe I missed something but doesn't this seem relevent?

I did see these pictures quite a while ago attached to an entirely different story, so my guess that this is just an unrelated hoax.

I could be wrong, however in the version I read, the tale was just two people wandering in the great outdoors when they saw this thing that was about 2 football fields long. That part of the story seems to be referenced on that site too tho.

The big catch for me is that the photos are clearly photoshopped, I'll have to see if I can dig up the reasons for why that is Smile

EDIT: Interesting... I first came upon this on another forum that posited it as potential viral marketing.

http://www.coasttocoastam.com/gen/page2022.html?theme=light
http://www.earthfiles.com/news.php?ID=1252&category=Environment

Those are the two original links I was given.

This was my rebuttal:

[Would someone tell me exactly what constitutes a "poor" photoshop and what exactly in the pictures leads to this conclusion?]

"There is no depth on field on the ship, no perspective. The images make the ship look pretty huge, which would mean on most cameras, if the front end was in focus, the rear end would not be. They try and match it up with the rest of the photo, which is fine, but they don't take into account the physical space the ship would be taking up, and the effects that would have on a picture.

That kind of attention to detail makes a so so photoshop effort great.
Hope that helps

Also, if you look at the picture posted earlier... If we assume that straight ahead is north, the shadows on the ship say the sun is northeast... whereas the trees show a sun that is southeast..."

So hopefully those links or that explanation might be of some use Smile

Okay, if this is oog someone please kill this before I spend too much time on this. Anyway, I think this passage is very SOTA like in it's content

Quote:
Private industry in Silicon Valley was responsible for some of the most incredible technological leaps in history and this fact did not go unnoticed by the US government and military. I don’t claim to have any special knowledge about Roswell or any of the other alleged early UFO events, but I do know that whatever the exact origin, the military was hard at work trying to understand and use the extra-terrestrial artifacts it had in its possession. While there had been a great deal of progress overall, things were not moving as quickly as some would have liked. So, in 1984, the CARET program was created with the aim of harnessing the abilities of private industry in silicon valley and applying it to the ongoing task of understanding extra-terrestrial technology.

Doesn't SOTA claim that the ancients are responsible for a great deal of mankind’s technological advancements? Aren’t ONI and UNSC very involved in utilizing forerunner tech in the Halo universe? It seems to fit in with these themes quite well.

I first saw a link referencing some of the photos on that page back on May 22nd. The general consensus at the time on the website that linked them was that it was viral marketing for the Transformers movie. I think that was based on the glyphs that appear on the UFO as compared to the Transformers website and symbols.

The level of depth on that page makes it feel similar to what we are looking for in a Halo 3 ARG, but none of the text or glyphs match any of the known Halo universe iconography. Neither the Forerunner glyphs nor the Covenant typography match the symbols on the craft featured on this new site.

That doesn't rule out some kind of new race in the Halo universe, but as it stands I think that the site you linked probably is viral marketing, but probably not the one we are looking for.

It is pretty cool though.

definitely out of game
We've seen this before.

I saw these photo's when iris first began, before the first server opened. They were mentioned and linked in conjunction with the lyca.com and numbered sites/dice game. I went down that rabbit hole, but the administrator of the forum there said his ARG is definitely out of game. This was long before this Isaac guy started posting.

At the time people were saying the glyphs on the ship were a forerunner's (I think) language, the cypher for which came with the Halo2 special edition. I think people are seeing what they want to see in an interesting image, whether its Transformers or Halo.

On the args.bungie.org forum we've discussed this as well, and I general consensus is its way out of game.

It's odd because in places like Digg.com it is automatically assumed to be a part of Iris. Just look at the comments on the article:
