I can hear bits and pieces in there, but my speakers aren't loud enough to really hear properly (I'm at work Sad ), but i can DEFINITELY hear something at the end, about history and saving us all.

Kudos to all you guys who have been working on this!

I'll try listening to it again later, when I can actually hear it.

I've been listening to the different mixes I've done, including the normal version for most of the last 10 hours, and I think I found something.

The lines near the end sounds closer to "Learn of our past. Take these keys, and dig from the wealth of history"

As to being able to hear it, I've found that they make a lot more sense if you use earphones.

I've started using headphones to hear the backwards version.

I think 'Earth's matter' is actually, 'Earth's arrogance.'

Also I can hear a part shortly after that saying: 'To relive what the Halo's have destroyed/disturbed.'

Another part says 'May relive.'

More: 'A chance for human's to change the universe.'

And, right at the very end: 'You may find how to save us all.'

Again, those of you who are playing with this audio, you're doing great work.

Just in time to do the dance again on the knife's edge of oblivion(probably wrong)

Just for the sake of completeness, I'm almost positive this is "Just in time to once again dance on the knife edge of oblivion"

As for the rest: I'm sorry, guys, but I don't hear a single thing in any of the reversed stuff. The forward message just seems too clear to me to have anything backwards in it.

I found it helped to use headphones. Everything is much clearer then.

Hehehe. Great line. Who talks like that? They obviously have a sense of humour.

Lol, I just realised that about 90% of what I gleaned from the backwards one are perfectly audible in the forwards version.

Damn I'm a n00b.

A fair chunk is, but in the mix, I can more clearly hear some of the stuff from the reversed version. That's actually why I started experimenting with the overlaps.

With the reversed versions I've seen floating around, I couldn't understand any of it. Then I started with the over lap mixes, and adjusting the left/right bands, and I was able to pick out some of the words everyone else had been talking about. Some times a reverse and a forward overlapping can cancel out distortion.

I'm able to hear the 'earth's matter' 'Venus' and 'Saturn' more clearly. Though admittedly we get some other interesting audio artifacts from the overlapping.

Perhaps there is a specific way to remix the file, causing a different message to emerge?

After all, the current remixed version comes out with 'Earth's arrogance', which sounds promising.

What if there is a proper way to arrange it? Perhaps separate the voices out? Flip them back and forth?

I'm not musicallly talented, just throwing out ideas.

That would go past what the proggy I have can do, or even think of doing. I've just got a basic audio editing program.

If we've got anyone with some DJ software, we may be able to get somewhere. I'd personally love to tear the different channels apart.

The left channel (the one with the 'male' voices) seem to have more than just the one person playing in it. But I can't do channel rips with the equipment I have.

Okay, I'm sort of pulling something out of my ass here (probably not the best way to introduce yourself to a forum), but Bungie have said 'the only parts of the Cortana Letters that are canon are the bits we are reusing in Halo 3 promotional stuff' (basically) and here is a line from the second of the Cortana Letters:

"There was a fourth. You couldn't have known. And I haven't forgotten."

Possibly lending weight to the people who think one of the lines is "A Secret Four(th?) lies Inside"
