MetaData

There's still information about Getty Images in the Slide_ref image. In CS3, it can be found under File > File Info > Origins. But, also if you open it up in a text editor, you find the metadata XML:

Sorry, the spoiler notation removed all the data after a colon in a node.
The bold words should be in the tags:

<photoshop>Not Released </photoshop>
<photoshop>Getty Images</photoshop>
<photoshop>Stone</photoshop>

So, either intentional, or they forgot to take out this information, or they never meant to take out the other metadata.

first, no need for a spoiler, please remove the spoiler tag from your post.

next, yeah... I noticed that was in there, but it's not the same data/fields that was found earlier. Either they missed those tags, or they don't care about the tags (or maybe they're legally bound to cite the source to a minimum capacity *shrug*)
The significant point is that we know now that the meta info is entirely irrelevant.

side note: CI still hasn't got wind of all the changes... they're still timing the sound chirps =) someone care to post our findings so far?

Which leaves us with a mysterious clicking noise and one less lead to follow...

this is going nowhere fast.

could it be a count down timer for something? maybe counting down to the new server unlocking.

the sound keeps remininding me of a ticking bomb. if it is a bomb of some sort can/should we try and stop it?

There's some merit to the idea of it counting down to a new server.
The position with the loudest ticking also happens to be the clearest viewing angle of the five glyphs on the back.
If we assume the glyphs are related to time and the servers...we could see a new server unlock sometime soon.

The changes to the slide_ref070107 were just something they decided to do while updating the background sound, since the tags obviously distracted us.

Or the sound change was to draw our attention to the fact that something was different, so we'd notice the change in the file.

Could be either one, though I do think your idea is more likely.

Any thoughts on why the text files were altered? I know FTP clients will often do that automatically if you move the files to a unix/linux system. Perhaps that happened and they didn't notice what it had done, since it will show up normally on the unix/linux system.

Perhaps it's part of the ARG. The information on the server begins to morph as a new one unlocks and eventually the onformation we have is lost...

The text files haven't been altered... if you're seeing that, it likely is the ascii conversion on your end. the old and new text files are exactly the same that I'm seeing

The ones I just downloaded from the Server 05 no longer have spaces or returns. The text itself is the same though.

Re: Array_Recorder_Data.txt

There shouldn't be a change on my end, I've downloaded the same way both times....

Windiff shows changes in the blanks, in this case I think that means the newlines. (Yes, the rest of the text is the same, that's why I think it was probably unintentional)

This file has changed somewhat:

  • It seems like the standard windows new line ("\r\n") has been replaced with the unix new line ("\n"), meaning notepad won't show the new lines, instead showing a little square to indicate a character it can't show.
  • Some of the new lines have been removed.
  • Some of the dots have been replaced with ellipsis characters instead.

I can't see any other differences with the original file at the moment.

I'm showing a similar effect, though I think the ellipsis characters were already like that.

Maybe it is on my end, but I can't see how it would have happened.

The clicking noise is independent of the orientation of the server. Click on the Server and hold it still. The clicking still occurs. Then after the server starts to rotate again, the clicking still remains on the same rhythm. As far as I can tell it seems about every 5 seconds.

Not quite. If you have headphones on, you'd notice there are three different sounds, all in stereo. There's the hum of that big glowing thing in the middle, the exhaust from what I assume is an exhaust port (In the back of the server, directly above the glyphs,) and the ticking noise. As you spin the server, the three noises move from one headphone to the other, as well. From what I can tell, the ticking is slightly to the left of the exhaust, but I can't quite get a lock on it.

You are right, Illidan.
Does it sound like dripping water to any one else?
I was playing around in Halo 2 the other day on Desolation, and I noticed that there was dripping water on that map. Now I would really consider that coindience except that the wall that the Glyph was on in the "keepers of the flame" e-mail was also found to look exactly like the wall in Desolation. Perhaps they are pointing us there again?
