Thoght from the "field"

Not that I am one to have a hair-brained idea or two, but here is a one to mash on. And I will try to be brief as this may take a line or two.

Ok, so we have no end of satellite imagery of the US. Kind of fun, and you can really zoom in on some fun stuff (except for those areas that the NSA and DOD don't want us to see), but what if we were to use this technological marvel to an American benefit.

I propose that one of our satellite imagery "friends" post a TerraServer like site complete with all the data and telemetry that we have on hand complete with the overlay to the Topo maps of one or two of the countries we may have some "concerns" about. We can then look at their land (as they can ours) and spend some time reviewing what is going on over there.

I for one would spend countless hours pouring over the clues and data. With the brain-stock that frequents this board and the collective (no pun intended) capabilities of this distributed research engine and I think it would not take us long to look at comparative data and come up with some thoughts on where some "things" might be. Hell, this group would probably setup a project and plan to review and analyze the data faster and with more accuracy than . . . well you get the picture.

I once read that the biggest issue with Afghanistan was not in the intel that was produced but in the daunting task to review all the data available. They said that they probably had everyone on film over there; it was just the task of reviewing all the images to find those "things" they were looking for.

We aren't pretty and we certainly aren't conventional, but if there was ever an endeavor that this collection of detectives could really put some heart and soul into I would think this is an area where we could shine.

Are there issues, sure there are, like security of the people doing the analysis, flooding them with false "finds", the issues surrounding the construction and deployment of the web the data and the interface to the community. To that I say make it all public (generally available public site), give us a place to see and talk about it (message board) and then the spooks can drop in and view what we have without even telling us and maybe, just maybe, we could help them out.

Hey, there are crazier ideas, like PM-ing an ARG for instance, but I digress,

HA
