[SPEC] New posts = PMs just killing time?

I just had this thought during a conversation with another forum member on MSN. What if the new AR forum posts are just the PMs killing time? That would explain a lot:

- Why was there such a long wait for something to happen? The PMs were just waiting for us to find something we were supposed to find, but we didn't.

- The new posts are just to keep us interested and to keep us from feeling like nothing is happening.

- Maybe the new posts are hinting at something?

My theory is there's something we need to find on the SOTA site, and we still haven't found it. (I know other people have said this, but I think it merits revisiting, again.) Personally, I think the clue is in the DoYouGrok email and the misspellings. But that's just me. What do you think?

i agree. it seems like there is just something missing because we still haven't made any progress in the last week or so.

I think they're trying to stretch an extremely simple story to fit an ARG that is supposed to span three months. Hopefully not, but that's what it seems like to me. Hope would convince us to believe that they're preparing to unlock the next "server" soon.

according to some people, we found some of the website and info early, mayb the PM's had to find a way to reroute us back to the originally planned storyline

I personally think of it like "Where's Waldo" - he's right there under your nose, but you can't seem him for your life.

Not that this probably has already been tried before, but I didn't see anything so I tried anyway. Thinking the "doyougrok" part of the email may have just been a clue, I tried "answering" by sending mail to "yesigrok," "igrok," "yes," and just for good measure, "grok" & all bounced back withing seconds. Just thought I'd mention it so noone else wastes their time (all 15 seconds of it).

Would it be worthwhile to compile a list of addresses we've comfirmed don't work, or has anyone really tried plugging in random stuff in there?

-Disciple

EDIT: fixed stupid typo. The preview button is there for a reason.

At least with Waldo you know what you're looking for...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it found that their server was set-up to reject ALL emails sent to [any address]@societyoftheancients.com for the time being?

I remembered that there was something odd about the way they were bouncing back, but I don't remember us concluding that everything sent to that domain would bounce. As far as I know we're still assuming we're either missing the first part of the address or a keyword. I'll backtrack through the email thread and see if i can find it.

I almost hope that is the case as it will save me a bit of time, but at the same time, I really want this to progress.

Yes, the server is set to bounce. My thoughts are that we have to assemble something into a clue that gives us their local/national PO Box or an email at some other site/IP.

Ok, good to know. I just went back and read through this thread and it doesn't look like anyone ever mentioned that all mail to that domain would bounce, so it's good to know now. Would've hated to spend all that time compiling every marginally related keyword and sending them all out only to have my inbox flooded with replies from the Mailer Daemon. ;p

Woah!!! That conversation sounds very familiar. Wink

Here's a better thought.

I broke the ARG.

What if the SOTA site, as it is, is the "looking glass" for what lies behind it? We were supposed to find a site very similiar to the "Reclaimers" site but built one before we found, or they could unveil, theirs.
