I'm finding it hard to believe that the colored boxes mean anything. They just could be F* ups.
I'm surprised tho that this thread isn't a buzz over this picture.

although they are only forerunner glyphs.
p.s. correct me if I'm wrong. but isn't one of the new maps called Glyph???

I guess the fuss is, unlike a lot of the other apparent bodges in this ARG so far... It's kinda hard to accidentally plonk tinted rectangles in images that were just being resized and watermarked... But indeed, could just be a blunder.

I just had an idea - remember those "secret decoder glasses" and things like that? They work by filtering out a certain color to reveal the message. Maybe it's like that?

It's been stated before (In Fall of Reach and First Strike) that the Covenant are imitative and not innovated in their technology creation. Besides which, the covenant are known to have a large knowledge of the forerunners - Their religion centers around following their "great journey" from this universe (Which was ultimately the Halo firing sequence).
Good find, though.

Didn't see those before...interesting, although I agree that I think it's just because the Covies are fanatical. Could have something to it though. Nice find.
I absolutely cannot believe that IGN would post images that are that obviously messed up. But, perhaps:
A) They didn't notice them and they have a careless media department.
B) They lost the originals from Bungie and knew they had to post them quickly lest they be beaten to the punch.
C) Just don't care.
EDIT: Anyone involved with CI or args.bungie.org seeing them onto this same thing?

Then why are we going to waste the next three months trying to find out about the origins of the Flood and the Forerunners? Tell us now!
I don't think Dyne meant to insult you or offend you. He was just stating that he felt it wasn't a clue. If you feel it warrants speculation, feel free to start a thread concerning that image. I'd be interested to see what people think.

Well, StegDetect on Sensitivity 5.00 says there's a JPHIDE in all of those except BlueRectangle2, including the one from bungie.
I don't have the tools to run any sort of serious attack on passwords, but I'll try a few.
These may be false positives, but it's worth a try.
EDIT: Tested the Bungie one posted above me, another positive for JPHIDE. This seems kinda out there, honestly, but it sure would be a lot of false positives.
Have you tried ghost.713 or that NAV/POS string of letters/numbers that AR listed in his last post? I don't really know how StegDetect works, but seems like maybe those could be where AR/ghost713 is quarantined or something like that?
I'm a graphic designer, but I can't really do a whole lot from work- I looked a them quick before but didn't see anything immediately noticeable. I'll take a look when I get home in a few hours though.

I think each one of the pictures with the blocks could be hiding a new IP address, since there are 4 pictures and 4 parts to an ip address

If this isn't allowed, someone please let me know and I'll stop it. But I've enquired amongst the IGN editors to find out if this is indeed intentional or if they just botched the edits in making them viewable.
Is this contravening the rules in any way? Just trying to eliminate a potential red herring

I emailed IGN as well. I specifically pointed out the shots that might be in error
they are.
page 3 row 2 image 4 - red triangle
page 13 row 2 image 2- green triangle
page 14 row 2 image 2 - blue triangle
page 15 row 1 image 3- blue triangle
And I asked if these were a mistake or related to bungies' recent forum hijacking problems, since these images first came from bungie.

Odd shaped triangles...

Not against any rules per se, I don't believe, but it's not exactly in the spirit of the game, and some people might don't like to go about playing that way. I don't think it's that big a deal, though. At least since his is IGN and not just some random guy getting hounded by emails or phonecalls from us.
Another thought I had was: What if these aren't puzzles exactly, but we've taken too long in solving puzzles in the two images we have and the PM's are trying to steer us in the right direction? Overlaying transparent colors over the starmap and/or slide?
I think an IP address is a nice idea, but like I said before: The edges of the rectangle are blurred slightly. I'm pretty sure if they were that concerned about the height/width in pixels, there are other ways of drawing shapes that would keep the edges exact.
EDIT: Triangles? Are there more images with this that just the ones rpepper originally posted? Can we get a list of them all or can someone group them all together somewhere? If there's something to them it may be necessary to have all of the images with the color overlays in them to find it.

I'm not trying to lift the curtain or cheat the system at all, I'm certainly not looking for an explanation from IGN other than a thumbs up or a thumbs down as to if it was their fault or not. Hopefully ruling out OOG references is above board and legit
EDIT: As for the triangles, I've looked up the referenced pictures, and they are the same rectangles we already have... It's a bizarre typo to make... so I'm kinda confused

He meant rectangles but said triangles
