The pictures are on IGN.com which is a big gaming site. The images might be in game, we're still trying to work that out, but I'm not sure IGN itself would be in on it enough to have clues in their general image preview source code.

my question then is why don't they change out the pictures or make a comments about it then?

We're not saying they're OOG or IG, but the thing of it is is that IGN is not going to go about changing the source code for a simple ARG.
They probably have what most sites have, a simple uploader to upload the files to the system and then it's added into a gallery from there. I don't imagine any of the IGN bloggers are exactly CSS wizzes and went about changing the entire way the gallery is implemented, but only in a way that's not noticed unless you view the source code.
Now I'm running into possibly breaking TINAG for this: Simply put, IGN is a huge well oiled machine. I doubt even Bungie could get them to bend over backwards for a marketing stunt.

Honestly, I don't think putting up a couple of pictures is making IGN bend over backwards. Even if it was a big deal to put up 4 pictures that have to do with the arg, just think about how many more hits IGN would be getting because of it. It probably went along the lines of bungie: "Hey IGN, wanna help us out by putting up these 4 messed up pictures? We guarantee that not only everyone interested in halo will look at them, they'll look at them over and over as well." IGN: "Hmm... sure, we have to deny we have any connection to you guys right?" Bungie: "yup." end of conversation.
As for the fact that they haven't changed them, it probably means that its actually in game. A site like IGN wouldn't do something shoddy, it would make them look bad, not to mention all the gamers pissed off at the red herring. I'm sure the first time they caught wind of the messed up pictures they would have taken them down and replaced them with normal ones.

What I have to wonder, is if IGN's gallery system altered the images they were given. Assides fron adding the water mark, it may have also resized the images to meet a maximum size. The same images on the bungie site are much larger. Resizing (and probably water marking) would most likely destroy any steg'd message, it would also explain why the rectangles have fuzzy edges rather than clean ones.

That'd be a big meta-oops on Bungie and Microsoft if you're right. Possibly a game-breaking meta-oops.

Has anyone else noticed that the red and first blue are both different views of the same level. If you look in the plasma glare way above the red rectangle, you can see the plassword. That may be a hint of some sort I think
I've tried viewing the screens with different channels removed, and get some interesting but appearently unfruitful views when I disable the color channel of the rectangle, then invert.

I had noticed that. I suspect the second blue one is also of the same building, but from the outside.

I think I found the 4th octet, but the number's broken up on the design across the white area, so I might have it wrong.
If anyone want's a higher rez version, let me know, and I'll pm it too ya

The only thing I noticed with the rectangles when I was playing around with this for awhile was that if you overlay the image with the red rectangle on one of the blue rectangle images, one the edges of the rectangles line up exactly. I'm not sure what that means and couldn't find anything in the image that way, but I don't think it's just random.

Iris itself is breaking TINAG left and right. It's almost as if breaking TINAG is part of Iris.

TINAG
(as in, try avoiding throwing around 'tinag' all the time, it's annoying )
