Chat Question

I can't install a chat client on my computer at work, so several times I've tried to use the Java applet that one can access from the forum.

However, it just does this:

I'm assuming my company must have a firewall.

Is there any way I can get around it?

Yes it is a firewall/proxy , and yes there are two ways to get around it..

You need to go through port 6667 which blocked by the proxy. You might already have other ports open such as port 80 for browsing the web.

1- You can install a Port Tunneling program to route all traffic to 6667 through port 80..

2- You can beg the IT staff to open port 6667 for you, say you need it for business or something, or if you're in good terms with them just tell the truth.

Option 1 might get you in trouble because it's really bypassing corporate policies..

You could try installing http tunnel. This has had good success for many a corporate ARGer. Wink

You could try Pingfu (http tunnel software) at www.artofping.com to bypass the firewall...

Or just use a site with CGI:IRC installed, since that connects from their server, not your computer. I always used to use www.ircatwork.com
