From Amy--

You may well be on to something, but yes, I confess it is a little confusing for me. But Miss Havisham has her theories and you may make more sense to her. I shall show her.
Will you be able to make it to Swindon this Saturday? i am putting together an action pack for all of us determined to stop the rogue!
Write her to let her know you're going and you'll get the "action pack"

I just had an email from Amy confirming my theories about the extract pages referring to specific missing minor characters. We've got 6 so far and 6 more to go, I believe.
Amy also invited me to Swindon and said she would send me the details of her battle plan shortly. I'm definitely going to try and get there on Saturday.
Is anyone else going? If so, would anyone like to meet up beforehand? If it would help I start a list here of who is going and maybe we could exchange contact details via PM. Just PM me if you're interested.

I have had an email from Amy asking if I can be in Swindon on Saturday and that she is "drawing up battle plans!"
I emailed her asking what she had in mind. Hope I get a response soon!

I too have had a message from Amy, in response to one I sent a few days ago

I'm sorry I've been a bit sketchy. To be perfectly honest, I've not been feeling well. But we must press on. Thank you for all of your questing.
Now, I am very glad that you will be there on Saturday - it is the final show down with the rogue and we need all the help we can get. I am putting together a little action pack to galvanise the troops.
To follow.
Look forward to seeing you there,
amy
P.S I've had the past few days off work but .... there are more books in Foyles - Great Expectations for sure. i know they were doing a stock take so not sure if it will have been refiled but it's there.
Anyone able to get to Foyles again and find Great Expectations?
I do hope this plan of hers doesn't involve anything too energetic
I emailed June Haversham this morning, but have yet to hear anything back.

One copy of Great Expectations has already been found in The Idle Hour in Leeds (see page 14 of this thread for details).
The missing minor character was identitfied as Georgiana, Mr Pocket's cousin.
Does this mean that different versions of the Dupine books have different extracts in? Do we need to find even more books and more missing characters?
Well, at least we shouldn't have any trouble recognising each other in Swindon. We'll all look like this after the many hours spent book-hunting.

I just thought it must be significant that it was singled out. I suppose maybe she just hasn't been told that the other one has been found.

I've just got back from a trip to Birmingham New Street Waterstones. Spoke to a lovely shop assistant and manager who told me that they haven't recieved their 'special package' yet, but she took my name and number and she'll call me when they get it. So, maybe that's why you weren't having much luck earlier, myf?
Myself and my boyfriend will definitely be there on Saturday in Swindon. Got to save literature, right?

I'm rather glad you've found a possible explanation! I was thinking I was just rather rubbish

There is a new blog from Amy with a letter from Miss Havisham. Apparently she has run off but said she would come back if Amy forgives her. There are references to the footnoterphone and helping Mr Ffforde book jump out of prison, but I didn't really see anything new in it...

EDIT: One other thought. Havisham and Ffforde jumped out of a copy of Wuthering Heights. So, shouldn't that have something to do with where he was imprisoned?

I may be mistaken - but I thought Wuthering Heights was just our first clue to seeing that he was stealing characters???
If I remember correctly, the book that came off the shelf when the two people appeared was 'If on a Winter's Night a Traveller' by Italo Calvino
But still a good point - it might have something to do with that... Or if they book jumped out into the outland - a book that has close relations to it...

I can't wait to hear how the day plays out.

You could be right about that. I didn't have much time and just scanned through Amy's early blog quickly. The first title I saw was Wuthering Heights. The main thought was just that the book that they jumped to the outland from might have something to do with where Ffford had been locked away.

Amy sent me an email notifying me of a blog post, telling people about Saturday, and what to bring. She also made a wristband design for us to wear to identify ourselves with...
Unfortunately I cannot make it, but alas, such things happen...

Etta,
This is what I posted yesterday;
Quote:
edit Just one last thing but going over the Amy Greenford blog and found the post about the footnotes (http://amygreenford.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html) . At the end of the article she starts to use a high score 1 for things like didn't. For example didn 1 t. There are 4 1's by my count. I will chase this up.
These look like references to foot notes to me. Perhaps there is a clue in the first foot note in the Next among sequels book.
Amy has also discounded the Footnote phone conversations.
