Forgive me if this has been tried (42 pages is a lot) but how about DoYouGrokSPL AT societyoftheancients.com

The other question is what SPL is and what they are asking in we understand. Does the site explain?

This forum replaces all @ symbols in email addresses with the word SPLAT in order to reduce spam harvesting of addresses. That is what you are seeing there. SPL is just the first three letters of the word SPLAT. Smile

heh
SPLAT is just Unfiction's way of spamblocking email addresses. It replaces @ with SPLAT. So it's not DoYouGrokSPL AT. The email is DoYouGrok, at societyoftheancients.com - splat is just UF doing its thing.

edit: rpepper... you speedy punk you Wink

The splat is just a way the forum censors the emails so spambots don't get em. For example

moomooSPLATcow.com

EDIT: Both of you beat me to it O.o

it is so hard to go through 43 pages of text to figure out whats been discussed all ready. adding my thoughts from an all ready locked thread

Quote from the website

WHO ARE THE ANCIENTS?

Well, the truth is that we *who is We?*don't know. There's plenty of speculation out there that aliens looked like this or spoke like that, but none of the evidence we've seen leads us to any sort of extraterrestrial body type. Big oval shaped head and a small green body, who's to say. *Imidiately they go into what they look like. they say that the evidence they HAVE, show no referance to what the aliens look like. Speculation on what they look like.*

What we do know is that the ancients are an alien species that visited earth thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years ago *this is an all most specfic time range, what evidence do they ahve that gives them this time frame* and who gave human evolution and technology a slight bump in the right direction. For that, we thank them. * What did they help us with? what point in evolution or our tech development did they give us this nudge?*

"I was like a boy playing on the sea-shore and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me." - Isaac Newton
*this quote is a taunt. It's a muse, its saying. Here play me. Us players know this is a game. This quote is an indirect invite. It is also telling us that dont look at the parts so much the whole. - i need to think on this more *

evidence page

THIS IS PERHAPS THE MOST DEBATED ASPECT OF ANY EXTRA TERRESTRIAL GROUP

Our members came to us because they looked around their world and realized, humans did not build/create all this. * Build and create what exactly? Sky scrapers? Cars? only in the last 200 years of human exsistence have "technology" as we understand it been around. Humans through out the 5k years of recorded history have been using technology.. the wheel, sanitation, astronomy etc. What did the ancients help us build. *
Our very first bit of evidence is the scientific principle often expressed as lex parsimoniae, better knows as Ockham's Razor. This principal basically states "All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one." * all this is true, wiki it up* Well, the question the Society * there is the We* has asked itself is: What is simpler to explain, that ancient humans made extreme leads in technology and social advancement for no reason what so ever? Or that there was a reason, a hand that guided the swift change.* My brain tells me the last part of this paragraph is important. it talks about ancient humans. making leads? leads? what kind of word is leads, i would have used leaps in technology, or giant steps in technology. but leads? he goes on by saying by no reason what so ever? He is saying HUmans would not have moved along, if it werent for the helping hand of a race of beings who all ready had the knowlege and just passed it down...*

Keep that in mind.* we have to keep what was said above in mind.. Puzzle clue right here, i know it.*

Now, evidence for any point can be viewed in a number of different lights to support a number of different points. We understand that this theory works in our favor as much as against it. But like I said, our members are quite resolute in our evidence examination (monthly meetings usually consist of new and old evidence debates) and we feel confident that SOTA theories concerning these artifacts are more complete than countering explanation. * vague argumentitive support, I think this paragraph moves the fiction along. I think "Monthly meetings usualy consist of new and old evidence debates" means that we may only see updates monthly. or sparsely. This is another important sentence that can be flaged as a clue.*
Here are a few examples that span human history. A much lager evidence section lives in our members section as well as the discussion forums that surround them

Members page

Founder – David George (Small Business owner and Notary Public), Normal Illinois (1995) Current Global Membership – 510 and growing * this bit of info sticks out. as it is complete fiction. Fake person, no address, or name of business, and lives in Normal Illinois as off 1195?*
To sign up for the SOTA mailing list, click here.

A note from Dave George:
When I first started SOTA in 1995, I was living in Santa Fe, NM. A neighbor (Aaron Elliot, our current SOTA membership chairman) and I were talking during a backyard BBQ when the conversation turned to a book series (bought on TV and popular at he time) *typo?* dealing with unsolved ancient mysteries. After a 2-hour discussion, and a brief foray into Aaron's duplex to find the mysteries book, I became quite interested in ancient artifacts and their relationship to possible extra terrestrials.

Not long after that meeting, I became engrossed in the research that led me to the Ancients theory. Books, video, radio, anything I could find I obsorbed. *Obsorbed.... is spelled wrong Absorbed is correct*

It was sometime in 1996 that I ran into this quote by former U.S. Astronaut and the 6th man to walk on the moon, Edgar Dean "Ed" Mitchell.

"I have been over the years very skeptical like many others [about extra terrestrial existence]. But in the last ten years or so, ~I've come to realize that the evidence is building up to make this a valid and researchable question." - Dr. Ed Mitchell Apollo 14 Astronaut, MSN Interview * I find it wierd that they bring this guy up.
http://www.soultravel.nu/2004/040813-Mitchell/
http://www.sptimes.com/2004/02/18/Neighborhoodtimes/Astronaut__We_ve_had_.shtml
This guy is a supporter of the exsistance of ETs. I dont think he is skeptical at all.*

Well, Mr. Mitchell's words made an impact on me. Perhaps not a kick in the teeth impact but they left a dent non-the-less.* vivid imagery on how some ones idea or point was taken* And the first thing I like to say to possible new members is, "If these words made an impact with you, no matter how small, then maybe you would like to hear more of what we are talking about." * they have and i want to hear ALOT more, but why why cant we get in contact with you? or any of your members*

Please take the time to consider our points. There are others out there with the same questions, and a few with the answers. * answers we definitely want answers.. but where do we get them*

-------------------------
I ask my self do i take these paragraphs at face value. are they just a fiction that is there to convery story elements. or is it in it self a puzzle. Are there any miss spellings, any gramatical anominalies that stand out that could form a message. any anagrams of benign or plan terms. Something should be here.

They did alot of advertising for this SOTA site.. So there has to be something here we are missing.

[Spec] Leaping to Conclusions

Quote:
I was like a boy playing on the sea-shore and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me." - Isaac Newton

Quote could mean two things. It fits perfectly with-in the context of the site about how the individual has led his entire life blind to the idea of extra-terrestrials.

But the other side to the coin is that the quote can apply to the site itself. We're too busy being distracted by something trivial, and not seeing the bigger picture, or the whole picture.

Now, it's very difficult to accurately define what is "trivial" and what isn't - that definition is going to vary from person to person. But with that general idea in mind, here goes:

Back on page 23, Grifter_7 was kind enough to point out all the spelling and grammatical errors that he could find, with input from others, and replace them with the correct ones.

Taking out grammatical corrections, leaving yourself with simple spelling errors, you're left with only a couple "mistakes" on the part of the webmaster, rather than the 27 listed.

(For convenience's sake in helping you find what I have, I'll be abbreviating where on the page I found these errors. Mi. = Mission, Evi. = Evidence, etc. Similarly, 3P, 2L is short for 3rd Paragraph, 2nd Line. Try and follow the pattern.)

Mi. 1P,10L: the word "an" is supposed to be "and"
Evi. 2P,2L: the word "knows" is supposed to be "known"
Evi. 4P,1L: the word "lager" is supposed to be "larger"
Evi. 2nd Picture Down: the word "bee" is supposed to be "be"
Evi. 6P,2L: the word "to" is supposed to be "too"
Mem. 2P,4L: the word "mysteries" is supposed to be "mysterious"
Mem. 3P,2L: the word "obsorbed" is supposed to be "absorbed"

Strung together in a sentence, these sound like an immigrant just off the boat trying to read a sci-fi book:

"an knows lager bee too mysteries obsorbed"

But if you were to kind of play around with the original sentence structure, and take some creative liberty here...

"A known fortress is to mysteriously absorb.."

Note: the word "lager" is a synonym for "laager", which means to camp in a defensive encirclement, or an encampment.

But if you were looking to link that to the concept of the Ark, the sphere... blah blah blah... you all know where that goes.

Now... that's a pretty larrrrggeee leap there. Especially considering that in between those words, there are other words in other paragraphs that are spelled incorrectly as well. For the sake of including everything:

Evi. 3rd Picture Down: the title "The Antikythere Mechanism" is supposed to be "Antikythera"
Mem. 2P,3L: the word "he" is supposed to be "the"
Mem. 6P,2L: the word "non" is supposed to be "none"

This also doesnt take into account the fact that both Stonehenge pictures are actually titled "Stonehedge.jpg", but again, this is just speculation.

I realize some creative liberties have been taken here, especially considering my "editing" of the "sentence" I found, but with no updates immediately in sight, you'd be amazed at what you can get your mind to "find" if you want it to. I dunno, thoughts?

Could there be any significance in the fact that the file for home is default.htm, while the files for everything else are .html?

Sorry, no. The actual files are no different whether named htm or html and the fact that the first one is htm would probably be down to the default index file set on the web server. That way when you type in societyoftheancients.com you get the default.htm page.

As some spec on my part; it's probably due to someone coding and testing the pages as .html, then finding out that the home page needs to be default.htm and just changing the name of the home page without being bothered about the rest.

Someone was working on that when we first found the page, and I never heard about it again.
I assume either nothing came of it, or the list of anagrams produced by the letters was so massive that it was impossible to discern meaning. Anyone know what the end result was?

That's not quite what I meant - I mean, could the PM be trying to tell us something here?

You are right, though - it's more than likely that .htm just comes before .html in the server's default page request sequence.
