Yes, we had to substitute in the numbers 33,39,57, and 64.

We still haven't solved the http://triadgenomics.com/junkDNA.html puzzle.

I noticed some of the sequence is smaller that other parts... not sure what it means yet.

If you Select All on that page, the sequences that are in a smaller font really stand out. I'm speculating that only those are the important ones, the rest is truly junk. There are 7 sequences in the smaller font, but it turns out that there are only 2 distinct ones. The sequence

T C T A G A G C A T G T T A A G C A T C T A G A G C A T T C G A G A C T A T G C C G A T C A G C T A T T A C G C G C G T A A A C T A G A T C T A T C T A G A G C A T T C G A G A C T A T G C C G A T C A G C T A T T A C G C G C G T A A A C T A G A T C T A G A G C A T T C G A G T G A T C T A G A G C A T T C G A G A C T A T G

appears 3x, as the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th sequence. It's 161 characters long.

The sequence

A A A C T A G A T C T A G A G C A T T C G A G A C T A T G C C G A T C A G C T A T T A C G C

appears 4x, as the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 7th sequence. It's 46 characters long.

I've tried using the DNA-o-gram Generator @ http://www.thinkbiotech.com/DNA-o-gram/index.php, but neither sequence translates into anything legible (even with spaces removed). That method uses 3 DNA characters per ASCII character, and neither sequence is a multiple of 3, so I don't think that's the right decoder. Are there any other classical ways of coding ASCII into DNA sequences?

But for the complete string, the ONLY factors for the number of characters (2823) are 941 and 3.

DK RED = 8.5 pt type

It looks like the original was a cut n paste job: none of the rows ends equally and both letter and line spacing are off...

Gonna work on this one too but could use all the help I can get cuz it only uses 4 characters: A, C, T, G. Why only 4 and why those specific 4?

I know very little about DNA but i think the letters represent compounds as shown in this picture from the triad genomic image folder

http://triadgenomics.com/images/base_pair.gif

EDIT: and this might explain the relevance http://triadgenomics.com/images/helix.gif

The four bases found in DNA are adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine (T).

Each gene's code combines the four chemicals in various ways to spell out 3-letter "words" that specify which amino acid is needed at every step in making a protein.

In DNA, adenine always binds with thymine and guanine always binds with cytosine. In RNA, thymine is replaced by uracil.

Warning: There are some transcription errors in Cowabella's post of the full sequence above. The two I've noticed is that the first two red sequences have an extra lead character that shouldn't be there. Please compare carefully to the original before relying on this transcription.

Being a pest

So...I have been pestering the doc for a bit of ARG love. I just received this in response to ALL of my questions:

Quote:
θηρόποσα Χείρ

edit: this has also shown up in the 'general' section of his myspace

Sorry guys. Tried to be accurate. My eyes were crossed by the time I finished...

Not hard to figure out... just google it:

Quote:
The Greek motto of Theta Chi is θηρόποσα Χείρ, which can be translated as "An Assisting Hand" or "A Helping Hand."

From the Theta Chi wiki page, which has already been posted.

Yeah, I think he was just letting us know that this was what he got as the response to his questions. And right after that, the good doctor added it to his MySpace page.

The junk DNA has been modified. So I guess we have been on the right track but had faulty data. Start again.

The junk DNA page - bottom right corner has the access image - it leads to an audio file - so does the doctor's picture. I found one more in the file folder - not sure where the link is...
