Reggie 2/1/04 - this game is going to the dogs!

Let's talk about the dog puzzle here!

There are 3 pictures which don't fit in.

A Sheltie, upside down
A Dinmont Dandie, upside down
a Harrier II fighter

Discuss.

we also have the pic name: GARM

as pointed out by others is the name of the dog unleashed by Loki, which killed and was killed by Tyr.

Dmax made a pdf with the pictures in it and Enaxor pointed out you could save the picture then open it in Quicktime and go through the pictures slowly.

I dont know how much this will help but this is the facing of the dogs (and the plane):

L is Left
R is Right
l is left and upside down
r is right and upside down

Each frame is on for 10 (im not sure 10 what) but they're all on for the same ammount of time so there probably isn't a code in the timing....i'm going to check my facing idea out and get back to you.

A little replacement:

1011001011110010101010011010110010000101010111001 R=0 L=1
0100110100001101010101100101001101111010101000110 R=1 L=0

Check with the binary converter.
The first one gives:

²ò©¬…\

the 2nd one gives:

M
VSz£

So the idea of it being 8 bit binary is out (which i was doubting anyway cause its 49 bits) It may be 7 bit codeing which would give 7 characters. But I dont know how to convert that. It could still be Morse. If some one else wants to try that cool....i got another idea up my cuff.

But upside down doesn't necessarily change left or right facing. Although I applaud the concept it still leaves us with

Why would they be upside down?...

dog - "upside down" or facing the other way -> god

keep him safe

garm -
Quote:
In Norse mythology, Garm was a huge four-eyed dog that guarded Helheim, the land of the dead, living in a cave called Gnipa. It was usually covered in blood.

The entrance to Niflheim is Gnipahelli, a dark, foul smelling opening that is guarded by the fierce dog Garm. Garm also prevents the spirits from escaping Niflheim.

Heimdal and Loke fight and kill each other, and so do Tyr and the dog Garm from the Gnipa Cave.

Hel is guarded by the fearsome dog, Garm, and it is possible to please him with Garm-cake. Surprised

Just an idea..... I mean even I know I'm probably (excuse the expression) barking up the wrong tree, but it was worth a shot.

the lonely guy

Quote:
mind so clear when programming. not like before. lonely though. wonder if i need a dog. keep me company. keep me safe

This is the text entry from Reggie's blog. I didn't pay enough attention to the words of his blog in the last puzzle. blech!

I wonder if he is "lonely" and "wants company" if he is refering to the pictures of dogs with people? Also the "keep me safe" might refer to the harrier? But that seems out of character for him.. Hey, at least his mind is clear, that helps.

Had a theory about them all being dogs that heard, flush out or move animals.

But the 'chinese crested' stuffs that idea (I cant find anything saying it is a hunting/hearding/retreiving dog).

Here's a question:

What do you think we're looking for? Another login/password? A directory? A file name? If we're supposed to use our solution as part of a URL, where do we do it - nru.us/physics? /documents? /images? inanimatereason.com?

I'm thinking it's likely we're looking for a login/password combo, either for the dreaded login page or on the NRU main page.

I don't know what #pic it is because I can't use pdf or quicktime on this old hunk of circuits and chips.
............Mmmm, chips

P.S. This reminds me of that pregame puzzle that grumpy worked on.

Eagle

BTW - a harrier is also a type of eagle.
there is a norse eagle giant named ARI who I found this description of
Quote:
Ari - ("Eagle") Ari is an Eagle-Giant who frightens the dead outside Nifilhel. Nifelhel is the kingdom of the Death-Goddess Hel. Hel takes care of those who have died of age or misfortune.

SPEC

Totaly clueless, and remember that I'm coming into the game late.

I wonder if Garm, guarding the mouth of Hel, is the id/pass that guards NRU, the new version.

So, hidden in this would be two things: a logon and a pass.

What's special about these images: again, the harrier plane. WTF is that about? And, there are the inverted ones. Error, or clue? Does it matter that there are 49? Lots of terriers and spaniels.

Terrier, harrier
Spaniel, daniel? That doesn't mean anything to me.
