This is interesting.

Quote:
Hello Ben,
I don't know when my assessment is, but I feel it is soon and I that makes me feel so nervous that I feel empty inside! It happens the other way round too, sometimes I start to feel empty and fuzzy and I know it must be because my assessment is soon!
I don't know where to look for the place where Ffforde can be re-imprisoned, I have been trying lots of place names but not finding anything. : ( Jasper said in his email that it is a place and that it is written down in his new book, but I have tried all the places written in the story and it isn't any of them! (any way those places are written in ALL his books not just the last one) I hope we find it in time!

June x

p.s. Do you have the new book yet? Did you see Jasper wrote my name on the dedication page near the pictures at the back! : D

p.p.s. The plan is to meet at New Bridge Square, SN1 1EA at 1pm, please could you and anyone you bring with you wear these armband (attached to this email), so that we know you are there to help us stop this horrible man!
Please bring your scribbler with you (if you have one)- Amy told me that Miss Havisham's plan involves using these to interfere with the imaginotrans-something (it sounds very complicated, but Miss Havisham says it doesn't matter if we understand it, as long as we do as she tells us!)
Look forward to meeting you tomorrow : )

June x

Gah! That's so contradictory!

I sent amy a list of what we had worked out last night, and it seems she has managed to tease a bit more out of the cat and posted it on her blog...

Quote:
He said he noticed that the woman's mate smells of ink and bits of
parchment as well. Their house is in quite a busy small town and several
nice smelling young ladies often visit - one of whom strokes him, which he suffers to show willing.

Not sure to which clue it is relevant to however... Any idea?

Must be the Pride and Prejudice clue (5), since (3) clearly refers to a man. Mrs. Bennet's sister???

Quote:
Her father had been an attorney in Meryton, and had left her four thousand pounds.. She had a sister married to a Mr. Phillips, who had been a clerk to their father and succeeded him in the business, and a brother settled in London in a respectable line of trade.

And later:

Quote:
Their visits to Mrs. Phillips were now productive of the most interesting intelligence. Every day added something to their knowledge of the officers' names and connections.

(5) The cat likes this woman. Others he thinks are rather prejudiced against her, but he can't think why – there are lots of parties in her house which means he gets to eat scraps in the kitchen – although he doesn't like the soldiers who turn up there.

Is there any reason given as to why people my be prejudice against her???

BookCam FOUND!

We were able to collect my book from the post office today (YAY!).

In the credits above the thanks to June it says:
Quote:
Special thanks to the residents of Thirlestane-Green for their generous hospitality to my other half.

The webcam is

Wanted to report directly, and will check it out now...

(PS- I agree about the picture of June not appearing in the adverts at the back. Did anyone else notice the odd pictures of Thursday on pages 369-372? I didn't see June there either though...)

EDIT: the book is Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, one of the books on the Classic Book Quiz.

Good work Etta,

If you look in the source code, it says "lock [thraldom] and key [not specified for security reasons]"

Fforde mentioned something about a lock-word and a key-word, I suppose we should find them so we can re-imprison him again... He also said that the lock-word would be in pieces, so maybe that's only part of it...

You may have noticed, but in case not, there are some jumbled letters in the lefthand margin next to where Fff escaped. Put together they spell 'thraldom' - the lockword.

Any idea how we find the key from the minor characters??? And where do we enter it?

I've just emailed Amy with what I hope is the final list of the remaining missing characters that we've found:

1. Alice in Wonderland - Five of Spades
2. The Picture of Dorian Gray - Hetty Merton
3. Wuthering Heights - Throttler the dog (or, if not him then Skulker could be another candidate)
4. Frankenstein - The nurse
5. Pride and Prejudice - Mrs Philips
6. Tristram Shandy - Billy

I'll let you all know if I hear back from her.

Good find on the BookCam, Etta!

About the cats description of the man and the lady it sounds to me like the youngest Bennet sister and that rogue that married here that was Darcy's adopted brother or something like that. Been awhile since I've read it and I don't have a copy on hand. It could also refer to the friend of the youngest Bennet because of the parties and soldiers. This man from Pride and Prejudice probably would take advantage of Miss Havisham as well. Just some thoughts.

Because of the book's title. And probably also since she is Mrs. Bennet's sister!

I think that the character you mean is Willoughby (sp?).

From skimming the original text of "Confessions..." online, it seems to be a word-for-word copy, with the words "J__r" and "Fff__e" substituted directly for "W__m" and "B__e."

No, sound's like Wickham resp. Lydia. Wrong Austen novel ... Wink
(Wrong character, anyway. It's clearly Mrs. Philips or however she is spelled!)

Yep, I agree with Canzonett. Mrs Philips holds the party at which Lizzy and Wickham become acquainted. She regales the younger daughters with gossip about the soldiers. Plus her husband is a clerk and would smell of ink and paper.
