So come on, what happened?

This particular Jurisfiction agent was stuck on the M25 and then stuck on the M4 so I'm hoping those who did make it managed to return the fake Ffforde back into fiction.

The trip wasn't entirely wasted though - I'm now the proud owner of a signed First Among Sequels which probably means no sleep for me tonight...

We saved literature! As you should all know, else your books would have no words in them. Wink

I'm travelling back at the moment, so full details with pictures later. Just wanted to say now that I had a fab day, it's been lovely meeting you all, and a note to the organisers, should they be watching- it was great, please do it again! Smile

Too knackered to try and give a proper account at the moment, but it was great fun! And no, it would appear that we don't all look the same. I'm a bit taller (and wider) than the others.

It was lovely having a bit of a chat with Mr Fforde and his other half again Very Happy

Once someone has cobbled together the details of what went on, if there are any outstanding questions about anything, post them here and I'll pass them on - we might get some answers about stuff.

Fortunately (or not) I'm doing a write up (with photos) right now. I had a long train journey where the only other thing I could have done was read a book... Wait a minute, why did I not read the book? If I don't post in the next hour, I've got distracted.

ETA: I got a little distracted by someone who wasn't supposed to be here, but I'm still on it.

That took longer than it should have done: http://www.simplypineapple.co.uk/swindon/

I shall add the big size photos to Flickr when I get it working at some point, but that point is not now. Now is the time for bed. I think I've calmed down enough.

Great write up! I should point out that I was too embarrassed to read out my scribbler, so got a nice New Zealander (whose name escapes me) to read it out for me Embarassed She did very well reciting my rubbish bit of writing. Luckily I had taken a copy of the email I sent, rather than a hand scrawled version - otherwise I think I would have struggled to read it, never mind anyone else.

Stuff I learned (or knew but had confirmed), in addition to things listed in the write up -

Miss Havisham is shorter than I expected;
Pineapple doesn't look at all like a pineapple or a spider-plant, but does indeed carry knitting with her in case she gets bored;
laminating paper wristbands with sticky tape is a good idea;
people recognise me from a weekend event that took place over 18 months ago (I don't know that I like being that memorable!);
people will travel great distances to be involved in silliness;
it is possible to crochet dodos;
foreigners don't know what Battenburg cake is - some have believed it to be a fictional creation until offered a slice of the aforementioned item

You got to meet Jasper Fforde and eat Battenburg cake?!

**seethes with envy**

I can't wait to hear more details and see all the photos!

Excellent write up, Pineapple. Very Happy I'm also quite envious of what sounded like a brilliant day out with some strange characters. The in-game characters were also quite unusual!

So, what do we do now then what with literature saved and all that... When's his next book due out??!!!

Thanks for the write-up Pineapple. It sounds like you had a very interesting afternoon.

I'll be able to go to a Jasper book signing in a few weeks when I'm on holiday visiting my family, but somehow I don't think it will quite compensate for missing the grand adventure.

(Ok done sulking now Smile )

Well the New Zealanders said they'd bought Battenburg cake as well as marshmallows, because they hadn't known it was a real thing until they found it in the shop. Thankfully they only handed out the sweeties when we were in the pub, and not the cake too. I hate Battenburg.

Great write-up! Love the pictures, especially the one where Jasper is signing the fffake book for me!

I'll do my own write-up with my photos (one of which includes Pickwick eating marshmellows, bless her, she's so sweet!) once I've put the aforementioned photos on my laptop. Hopefully won't take too long, but I've also got to write a ten-minute script of Titanic and tidy my room this afternoon, oh, and write 30 limericks, so it might be delayed somewhat by that... Smile

Pickwick was inanimate, yes?

All of this talk of her being so sweet and eating marshmallos has me just a little concerned. It implies that either a) someone has the ability to clone an extinct species (and a bird no less despite the ongoing paranoia surrounding bird flu) or b) there was some actual book jumping going on yesterday...
