Ripping My Hair Out
Meg's been in the hospital all week under observation. The kid is giving us fits. Everything looked so perfect for the last couple of months and then suddenly a hyperactive gland or something makes the fetus go haywire.

I wish I could spend more time with her, but we've hit a critical juncture at Neotech and I need to be there when things start happening so I can execute the plan. Harker lined up some distractions for Becker so I can work my magic when the time is right.

It's obvious that this is not a profound love story. It's a pedestrian love story. Love exists between Meg and Jake but only as long as Jake feels comfortable and secure in his surroundings, his timeline. It's obvious that he wouldn't sacrifice everything he once knew in order to be with his wife when she needs him in this unfamiliar timeline. This isn't bad...how many of us would? Wouldn't we just want to go home? I would like the story better if Jake were willing to give it all up for love of Meg and circumstances and outside agents worked to force him back to his timeline.

Regardless of which timeline, it is still Meg, his wife (or an alternate Jake's wife) who had finally learned that Jake wasn't crazy. Regardless, this is someone he should be close to, whose pregnancy (his child) is in jepardy. I guess it justs hits a sour chord with me. I am beginning not to care if Jake gets home, I sympathize more with Meg and John.

But then we wouldn't have a game. Course there are times I feel like we don't. Wink

for the record, even in his own timeline, Jake was pretty much an ass there too as far as Meg was concerned. I don't think that his behavior has much to do with him wanting to get to his own timeline (which I'm sure is still important to him), as much as being totally engrossed by his work over anything else.

It just adds an additional excuse to him being an ass... i.e. I can see Jake saying "Well, it's not REALLY my wife, anyway... so Back to work!"

I could go on about my utter contempt for Jake ad nauseum. He has always been a narcissistic prig. If you recall, in the last timeline, Jake hopped and stayed away without a word of comfort to his wife, even when her mother died. As for this timeline, Jake has an obligation, as any decent human being would, to support Meg. (We are giving her moral support and encouragement and we are just online friends. ) She has no family to help her - so he has to step up.

And, the reason the timelines got merged was his fault. If he weren't an incompetent spy, he wouldn't have been caught by Becker and be forced into this ridiculous sideways hop.

I have no doubt he will screw up here too.

Was I wrong about Jake??

After last night's chat I am reconsidering my harsh judgment of Jake:
Quote:

[22:21] <Jake> If something happens to me, Meg will be well cared for.
[22:21] <Jake> If I can't take care of Becker, we have no chance at a normal life.
[22:22] <Jake> in ANY timeline

He sounded desperate. Maybe he is working so hard right now because he knows that taking care of Becker is the key to their happiness.

And, he needs to do this before the timelines converge
Quote:
rose> are you sure that Becker doesn't remember the other timeline?
[22:22] <Jake> He doesn't seem to know that I know what he has done in this timeline
[22:22] <Jake> but I can't be sure
[22:23] <Jake> and honestly, with the convergence factor, he is bound to find out
