Is that the Ethan Haas puppetmasters telling us, once and for all, that this indeed has nothing whatsoever to do with Cloverfield/1-18-08?

Not necessarily. The release date of a movie may or may not be important to their cause, even if the movie is about it.

Yeah I dunno. This seems like just about the only way the puppetmasters of Ethan Haas could communicate a lack of connection to Cloverfield without breaking the 4th wall.

I would agree, though nothing's 100% at this point, especially with the Paramount-youtube weirdness. Is it possible that someone at Paramount thought it was their IP because everyone else was acting like it? That'd be amusing, wouldn't it?

While I'm still generally ambivalent on the matter, it's also possible Paramount was simply doing a sweep of properties in which they have some vested interest. So while Haas might be related to something Paramount has a stake in, it doesn't necessarily have to be Cloverfield.

Very true. It would be great if there were two seriously freaky movies on our hands instead of just one.
And a quote like "Only 8-1-07 matters to our cause...," would likely be PM for "It ain't Cloverfield."
My Hypothesis: Is Paramount making two sci-fi epics?

Now that I'm trying to sort all this out as two seperate things, I'm a little bit confused. All the references to Cthulu were on this Ethan thing, right? How concrete were they?

Now, I've got this article that says 1-18-08 is about a sea monster. Not sure how reliable it is, but it'd be a wee bit strange for paramount to release two monster movies, publicized concurrently. That's why I thought the Ethan thing might not be a movie, but a search of the PR newswire for Paramount turned up no unusual acquisitions, outside of a Pharmaceutical company. Anychance this is an ARG for prescription drugs?

As I've said elsewhere, Ethan Haas could be promotion for a tabletop RPG coming out shortly, as suggested by Van Mantra's original use of an address in Orlando that was previously used in real life by a guy who now works for that gaming company.

That does not, however, explain why Paramount pulled Van's videos off YouTube, unless Paramount already has optioned the RPG for a movie sometime in the future.

I never thought that the Ethan Haas was a monster movie, I was thinking sci-fi, post apocalyptic movie, assuming it's a movie.

And unless Paramount has rights to the tabletop board game, that theory isn't entirely grounded (though it is a pretty strong possibility.)

From the 1-18-08 thread...
Confirmed connection.

Then why does the EHWR videos talk about a key opening up something on August 1 and then we only have ONE MONTH to complete the mission?

The only reason Harry Knowles THINKS there is a connection, is because folks keep posting their theories all over the internet.

Doesn't PROVE anything yet.

I'm still looking at EHWR as some online promotion or game for itself. I'm patient enough to wait for something a little more concrete. Either way, the puzzle trail on EHWR has been fun.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at. No way to know until AT LEAST Aug 1. But even if it's not connected, this is fun, and looks promising in the future.

Solved the puzzles today, great fun! Smile
I'm keeping an eye on this to see if it amounts to anything bigger.

The domain no longer is registered to Van Mantra.

I doubt this is related, but when I was checking for info on the Transformers sequel, I took a look at some of the stuff Bay is doing (with Paramount) and saw this. It had a glimmer of familiarity to it, however the release date is too far ahead. Thought I'd share.

2010 The War For Souls

What made me share was this:

Quote:
2012 is supposedly to be a year of either great spiritual transformation -- or apocalypse. The Mayan calendar held that it would be a time when the existing world order would be reversed. Nostradamus fore-casted that a rather large comet would rudely arrive on Earth's doorstep no later than 2012. The Roman Catholic Saint Malachy predicted that in 2012, the last Pope would arrive, triggering Judgment Day. Written by anonymous

and the beginning is the end aspect.

However, this one is much sooner....and remains in the general atmosphere....
