1-18-08 and Haas/Parasite

I've been sqaundering my day at work reading this but I still haven't read the entire thread.

Has anybody checked out this website?
http://theparasitemovie.com/

It provides a counter that counts down to 8/1/08 as well as links to 1-18-08 and Cloverfield, which turns out to be the EHWR website.

Since Cloverfield is the code name for this project and the monster in the movie is being referred to as "the parasite" internally (from available sources of information on this), I wonder if they are in fact, linked? Nothing concrete, but I didn't see where anybody had posted this website before so I thought I would. Apologies if I missed this being reported.

Not saying that it does or does not tie them all together, but it adds another piece to the puzzle, I suppose.

k, well that's creepier than the demon thing in the middle Laughing

And yes, it's been posted before and nope they are not related, and that one's been "debunked" as a fake.

There's already 42 pages. Sadly, only about 10 actual posts are specifically about 1-18 site and possible arg. The rest of the posts and pages are either about the Ethan Haas puzzle or the debate on them being related (not) to 1-18 and none of those has provided any linking bridge to 1-18 so it's basically been hijacked ;-p

Looking at the two women in the 1-18-08 website photo, because half of their faces are captured, it's fairly easy to come up with a pretty good idea of what they look like simply by flipping each half horizontally and laying them together (instead of pitting them side-by-side, as done by others):

You've just frightened me more than the movie "Communion" did. That's a first.

I assume that being debunked is buried earlier in the thread? I'll go look for it, thanks.

Sorry, the debunked part was to the poster above me asking about the parasite site/movie. But for the pics, it really wasn't an issue of debunking or not. I just didn't have much else to work with when that was the only thing on the 1-18 site, and they favor each other so I wondered if it was one chick in half or not....so messed around to see what it might look like, if it was familiar.

u4ik - did you see this one I put up earlier?

omg those pictures are hilarious! The skin tone alone makes it obvious that they are different people. The first one looks kinda like the Watcher from the Fantastic Four comics. OMG ITS THE NEXT FF MOVIE!! Rolling Eyes

This has been looked at more than a few times. If you look closely at the link on the bottom of that page, it directs to "Tossing Games". It's obviously a horrid attempt to get ahold of some attention to their website. Pay no mind.

Ah, okay, sorry about the redundancy. Sad I've checked this thread on and off at work all day today and in all likelihood missed this.

I'm curious, those pictures are dated for Jan in NY but I can't remember if anybody was wearing winter clothes in the teaser. If not, it could be something...

I've already been talking about it at work! I'm ALL ABOUT apocalyptic movies, if you've not figured it out already.

There's a little chatter at http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread287397/pg1 if you want to check it out. Sounds like an awesome plot.

EHWR sharing art with "Alpha Omega" RPG?
similar use of background artwork noticeable

Obyj34 wrote:
I think people are dismissing Ethan Haas too early, it may not be related, but it is not a small scale operation. That site would cost a good amount of money to be made so it's not some viral marketing for a small table top RPG game.

And yet, it seems to me the website for the RPG (http://www.mindstormlabs.com/products.html) and the EthanHaasWasRight site (http://www.ethanhaaswasright.com/)both share the same artwork...

See for yourself - here's the image from the RPG site:

Notice the two figures and the exposed staircases on the buildings. Now compare that to this screengrab from the EHWR flash site:

Sorry it's tiny, but it's from the right side of the background if you want to compare (from the "destroyed" version of the city that appears after the 2nd puzzle is completed).

Am I crazy, or are these two images the same artwork? And since there was already a connection made, could it mean that EHWR and this "Alpha Omega" RPG are part of the same product?

Or, speculating further, could the "Alpha Omega" RPG be a tie-in to the "1-18-08" film?

What do you guys think?

That's one thing that everyone has a beef with that's been following this so far. 63 degrees? In January? It's not unheard of, but it's not normal... That's for sure. I posted a link to a Youtube video a number of pages back that has a rundown of everything so far. Theories on the number 63, the roar, etc. Here it is again:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=im7wWMVzIyg

It's nearly 10 minutes long, but it's the best thing I've found so far that gets people up to the point we've reached. Check it out if you have time.

I think, as tinag had suggested, we keep the two separate until there's a confirmed, non-speculative link.

connection?

Ok, I just used google news to look up 8-18-08 and guess what. All the newspapers around the world have descriptions of the trailer, then mention ethanhaaswasright.com.

I think if there was no connection at all, why would all the newspapers be mentioning it? (and not just here, in London, Australia, I even saw an israeli news site in there)

I think the connections are strong enough, and it makes sense that both sites be connected, if their point was to make viral marketing like that before a movie, why just have a site with two pictures? have also a site with a game that people could get involved in, THAT seems financially and strategically smart.

and for the record, I do not think it will be godzilla, or voltron or anything like that, I think it'll be something new.

Wow. I'm clearly more interested in this than working today.

There's been some speculation earlier about the lack of winter clothing (that there could be some global warming tie-in or that it was a production gaffe). From my perspective, there are a couple of logical explanations. One is that most of the characters we follow through the trailer have been inside what seems to be a hot party and have run outside after whatever the disaster is - I doubt they'd have time to change into their winter coats.

The other is that "1-18-08" refers exclusively to the release date of the movie. That's it's not either the title or the time at which the action occurs. The movie could be happening at any time.

Also, one other thought: a lot has been made on the boards about the various numbers that may or may not be buried in the second website photo. Drew Goddard, who wrote the script, worked on Buffy during season six. I was a big Buffy mark, and I remember that all over the internet at that point was speculation on the hidden meaning behind the numbers that regularly appeared on Dawn's (Buffy's sister) t-shirts. There was a whole raft of information on whatever they could have meant.

As it turned out, Joss Whedon said in an interview after the season was over that the first few instances of Dawn wearing numbers on her shirts were totally random. The wardrobe department just got her shirts with numbers on them. But when the writers discovered the fans were all abuzz about them, they decided to keep having the character wear the shirts to kind of mess with them.

Now, since Goddard was a part of this, it could be that the same thing is going on. Or maybe, he knows the kind of fandom something like 1-18-08 would create, so he's doing a double think and the numbers really DO mean something. Or, they don't ! Or they do! Or... aw, hell.

Because they all have access to the same information - bloggers and fans speculating a connection. They're reporting the news. The movie is behind closed doors, so all they've got are what's being talked about the most at the moment. They want to report on what's happening, so of course they'd include they they think everyone believes to be right.

But at the bottom of it all, they are just as much a 'player' as any one of us. They're just writing for newspapers, where bloggers write for their blogs. Until there's an in-game link, an official interview, or press release linking the two, everything will be and must be considered speculation, and not official.
