[META] Validity of Flood Containment Control

Hey, so I decided to make this post for people to discuss whether the FCC posts/phone messages are IG or OOG, in a calm and non-argumentative way.

I post this because it seems like most people are now accepting this as completely in-game, but I'm not 100% convinced yet and I thought I'd just toss a few opinions out there that support both sides.

Supporting In-Game:
* New glyph image, which despite being a bit blurry when zoomed in, is pretty well-done and seems to fit with other images we've seen.
* 888 number, which apparently can support a large number of incoming calls
* Voice recordings are fairly complex; a hoaxer is not likely to come up with something like seconds of silence for a voice the players can't hear or integrating recordings in with earlier ones
* Multiple voiceactors involved, and a hoax involving multiple people would probably be less likely
* Began on 7/5/07, as referenced in the name of an in-game image
* Makes sense for a new storyline now, as players receiving reward might mark the end of that segment of the game

Supporting Out-Of-Game
* The use of a Gmail email address, Yahoo screenname, and the name Floodmaster to make the posts (as opposed to something Microsoft or from a FCC domain name, especially considering Microsoft stamp is on just about everything else, including a subtle reference on SOTA)
* Voice acting, at least to me, seemed to be fairly amateur and voices sounded young
* Use of a lot of seemingly random numbers and overt references to hidden information and puzzles that don't seem to exist (yet?)
* Very abrupt change in feel and story of ARG (Going from Forerunners, UFO group, etc to apparent present-day agency as a front for something; essentially leaving SOTA storyline unfinished, after so much work to draw attention to it)
* No refence to posts or phone number from anything that's been in-game so far (An SOTA reference to the posts with the glyph would have made sense, as they linked to the countdown previously)

Like I said, I just mean this to spark discussion, not any arguments, and I'd love to hear other peoples' evidence/opinions either way.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, we weren't supposed to find SOTA when we did.

I believe you are correct. I think we found the site much earlier than was originally expected.

Here's hoping they figure out a good way to tie the two storylines they have going together.

I thought of another reason for FCC to be in-game: don't they use a glyph? I'm assuming the glyph is IP owned by Microsoft and they would object to its use by others.

Also, as much money as I'm sure Bungie/Microsoft have invested in this ARG, they aren't going to stand by while someone else hijacks it. I'm extremely confident in this being in game.

Didn't the ILB lady have a blog at blogger? Blogger is also google, but those sites are easy to pass as something totally apart. So, we were flooded (pun intended) by MS and Bungie logos, and now... nothing. I think this could work to make us wonder a little while.

http://ilovebees.blogspot.com/ was the "official" blog for ILoveBees. So yes, they can use free outside resources to supplement the game.

However, that being said - part of the reason that this was valid for ILoveBees was that Dana was supposed to be a college student helping out her aunt. In supporting that role as a college student, they gave her a free blog - and it was advertised from the main ILoveBees site in addition. So while it was a free resource, it was completely keeping within the tone of the game to have it at blogspot.

That being said, I'm inclined to say that the FCC posts and the 888 number are legit. But only time will really tell...

Yeah, I'm starting to lean more towards this being legit the more involved the phone recordings get. And someone just brought up in another topic and reminded me: When people entered the code from the packages into XBL and got the gamerpic, a message read "Follow the signs [glyphs?] to victory". That could be a good clue for us having to find the glyphs for in-game sites rather than directly being linked to them.

I'm less than convinced that this is ingame. Largely because of the "change of pace" that siege mentioned.

On the other hand, if it is in game, we'll probably find out for sure soon enough.

That change of pace idea is based on the data from the packages being either solved or a dead-end. If there is something else from the packages, say on the T-shirt, then the "change of pace" isn't correct.

I'm only saying that the change of pace is being viewed from our perspective. Our perspective may not matched that of the game designers based on the timeline they set up.
