That WhoIs info on the Slusho site seems interesting, anyone with free long distance want to try that number in Japan, or maybe 1-800-589-5681?

Also, is there anything on the map at that address, or is that even a real address?

Something just seems odd about all of that.

The phone number is either fake, incomplete, or located somewhere else despite the 81 country code. Japanese numbers have eight digits plus an area code. This one only has seven.

Marunouchi is in central Tokyo and near the Imperial Palace, but I am pretty sure that the address is phony or means something else. The first number of the 36-40-10 part divides areas of the city into sections called "chome" and I can't recall seeing one anywhere near as high as 36, nor can I find one on J-Google Maps in this area anywhere near 36.

The postal code of 118-8336 doesn't correspond to anything in Tokyo. I'm not sure if it is anything in prefectures other than Tokyo because the Japanese postal service website sucks.

I bugged a Japanese friend again about this by email...she will probably give me a great big "WTF!?" soon. But she did enjoy the trailer.

Perhaps not relevant
but definite possibility

While reading online people posted these two websites:

35minutes.com (the interval between the pictures) and

401broadway.com (right up the street from the trailer)

Both of these are under construction, with no flash and nothing hidden in the source, but they might be worth keeping an eye on.

This is what I found/think...

First off, I would like to start by saying that I have been following this thing practically since it broke, most of whihc has been on here AND I have read every single post in this thread. Can't remember them all, but definitely read them...

Anyways, a few things I thought of that I believe haven't been posted yet.

1. The Numerology - this was touched on many times, and one user stated awhile ago that Mr Abrams is fond of using numerology in his work, etc. Well, to start things off there a random thought: The number six kept jumping out at me - first phot 12:36; the temperature is 63 degrees; you can't drink just 6, etc. - well, in numerology, as most of us know, the number 6 is related to the "beast". Monster movie, the beast, you get the picture - just a random thought to start us thinking more this way mayhaps.

2. Abrams anagram - maybe it's a lack of sleep that led me to this connection, but someone said awhile ago they anagrammed his capitalized words from the e-mail to AICN into "National Treasure", a movie steeped in masonic imagery and mythosness, much like our friend, Albert Pike. Perhaps it's nothing, perhaps worth noting.

3. The actual meaning of 1-18-08 - Has anyone considered that the events depicted in the trailer don't actually take place on 1-18-08? I didn't see a date stamp on the camcorder and so far, the only thing I know of confirming this are the stamps on the photos, which are most likely doctored in other ways according to popular consensus. The date on the photos may well be there just to throw people off. Also, as noted by others, the temp is 63 degrees on the newscast - far too hot for NYC in Jan. and we would have seen the characters' breath in the air outside in the trailer. Not discounting the "environmental disaster movie" premise, but there wasn't much in the trailer to suggest that was the case. Also, now with the dead link to this "monster" trailer found embedded on the apple trailer site - looks like the title hasn't been decided on yet. At least that link seems to discount the fact the movie itself is called 1-18-08. FTR, my money's still on it being the release date.

4. I zoomed in on the Slusho wallpapers and found *gasp* nothing! IMHO, the 'Slusho Zoom!' is the goofy flavor of the site, though i could be, and probably am, totally off....anyone else is free to try if they like of course, but i covered every inch of those things as best i could.

5. I think I found two pieces of pretty straight evidence that the slusho site is indeed a step in the right direction.
(pseudo)Evidence #1: On the main slusho site (www.slusho.jp), look at the placement of the slusho cups. One large one in the middle-top, and two groups with 9 on the left and 8 on the right. Someone posted earlier that those bottom groups could possibly be arranged - and I would like to acknowledge that to their credit - to represent 18-08. The 18 coming from 9 (cups) x 2 (groups of cups OR two kids). Now, with the one cup before those two, the main page of slusho spells out 1-18-08 in a triangle. Picture attached. Kinda crazy, but I thought it was just crazy enough to be a common thread.

(pseudo)Evidence #2: This is a little more solid. At the near-beginning of this thread (at this point), someone had made mention that 01-18-08.com had an urchin tracker that told the website where it's traffic was coming from (or something to that effect). Well, just on a hunch, I checked the source codes of a few slusho pages, including download pages and the main page - guess what?! All had an urchin tracker in the script near the bottom. Now, it's been awhile since I encoded web-pages via html (i'm spoiled-sue me) but that looks more than coincidental, like that SAME people have the SAME reason for putting the SAME tracker in pages that seem to connect to the SAME trailer. Get the connection, here?

Anyways, I respect the work we have all been putting into this and don't mean to step on anyone's toes, if I didn't mention your work in my assumptions, apologies. Not a big forum-poster, and don't know how to really quote people - PLUS searching 60+ pages is a tad bit tedious.

Sorry the post is so long, i've been keeping quiet far too long. Also, apologies if any of this has been said since page 62, which is what we were at when I stopped to write this.

[Edit] This post was compiled from some things I had written last night but had not been able to post at the time, sorry if some seem out of context....carry on.

By the whois, i'm thinking no on both of those websites, timesless.

Hey, six options to go to on the slusho site. Six characters on the screen at nearly all times...
" Slusho! loves your mails!! You Can't Drink Just Six!!!"
^ Six Ss and Six exclamation points.
Razz forgot those ones.

I'd say that's a connection, Lost Experience style. My guess: Van Mantra is the new Rachael Blake

thoughts?

Van Mantra is actually officially out of game, by JJ Abrams own words...the whole EHWR is out of the whole sha-bang

Plus, someone pointed out near the beginning that Santa Monica Airport was originally Clover Field airport. Weird coincidence, but probably nothing more.

Also, just read some very interesting things from a livejournal account by the name of 1-18-08. Quoting here:

Quote:
TrailerSpy reports receiving info supposedly from an actor working on the film. The source chooses to remain anonymous (for obvious reasons), but here's what he has to say:

I'm working on this shoot, and even we don't know what it is. Here is what we DO know however:

1) "some" inside source said something about us being on 6th/Main st in downtown LA, true; However, we did not do anything on a fire escape 8 floors up. Everything was shot street level… and nothing on any fire escape.

2) **edited out as it may expose "me" too much**

3) On a take in the scene you all saw (the trailer) at + 30 seconds after impact movie time, just a couple of us were told by Mr Reeves that we are seeing a giant foot stomp down (this is at the point where the tower explodes). Not Godzilla, but it is interesting…

4) Will the Military be firing? One of the Hummers in the downtown shoot had a 50cal mounted on the roof and the gunner was aiming up into the air down the block. He kept swiveling a bit here and there (as directed to do so), but if he is supposed to be firing, it will have to be CGI'd in later as not even blanks were being used. Not pertinent, but perhaps somewhere in the future of this, it will provide a better clue for us to solve this enigma.

Personally, I like that Ethan Haas thing…it kinda makes sense (to me at least) from some of the dialogue I've heard.
On one of the nights, the #1 principle was injured during a take and had to be taken for stitches to his head (10 stitches, if anyone is counting), as the other principles "watched" the camcorder playback of the "monster", some of the verbage they stated could lead to this ethan thing…at least in my head.

The only things we do know is that this is set to be Paramounts blockbuster for next year.. a blockbuster that opens in January is either bad timing or this thing will really set the world on fire. Judging by the amount of interest generated merely by an untitled trailer… I think paramount is onto something.

Would love to say more, but NDA is a bitch and I can only go as far as that…but to be honest, there really isn't a whole lot more to say.

If you want to see this being filmed on location(*s) and live in the LA area, just watch for the shoot direction signs labeled "Slusho".
oh, and that brings me to another oddity: The ID tags for the shoot on the trucks say "Slusho: You can't eat more than 6" and a drawing of a slurpee like drink.

wtf? Would love to hear people idea of what exactly that means???

We figured out the Slusho thing, but there is some more VERY interesting details from someone actually involved. Item #3 is particularly interesting, I thought.

I've seen the postal code for the slusho whois mentioned a couple times but hadnt seen anyone point out that its 118-8336 ( 1-18-8 336) It has the 1/18/08 date right in it.

Looks significant to me but what does the 336 represent.

Trailer Related : Did anyone else notice the very first roar sounded, more like a sentence then a roar? Also with the Statue of Liberty head ripped off, hard to tell if it were for effect, or to make us think "the monster" is intelligent.

Thought it was interesting.

The Trailer...

I've been following from the start, but confess to only having read 2/3rds or so of the posts here. I just thought with the advent of the HD quicktime trailers some closer examination of some of the shots we have not previously been able to look at would be warranted.

Now, with slusho.jp entering the fray, I have been going through the trailer frame by frame looking for anything and everything japan related. It seems fairly obvious from the get go that whoever rents this apartment is a bit of a japanophile, and it isn't a big jump to suggest that his/her friends might be also. So without further ado, here are some things I found (mind you, not all of the things I bring up here are Japan related):

At :35 seconds in, you should have a pretty clear shot of Rob (at about the time he is agreeing that he is the cameramans "main dude") and you should also be able to see the fridge pretty well. There are a couple of things on the fridge that are interesting to me. First, and please, if someone knows anything about any of the things I mention here being established properties (meaning they are just their for atmosphere and detail, and not as clues) feel free to just shoot me down, on the left on the fridge, on the door, there is a piece of tape or something with magic marker type font and it appears to me to read "EXIT MYSTERY ST." There is another piece of tape (or whatever) near the top on the side of the fridge, that only comes into view when the shot is almost over, and Rob has almost left the frame. I don't know what it means, if anything, but there it is.

Also on the fridge, behind the menus and the photos of the girls, there is a child-like block letter drawing that reads to me like "YOUR LIFE HAS"... Again, just throwing it out. Last thing on the fridge that I notice, is there appears to be a letter written out in kanji. The article I am talking about is being held to the fridge at the top by a blue magnet, and at the bottom by a yellow magnet of similar design. I would like to know if anyone can get a clearer image of it, and then maybe translate it.

At :47 seconds in, you can see what looks like (to a guy who was never in one) a fraternity paddle, with AKM inscribed. I think that stands for Alpha Kappa Mu? Probably reaching now, but there is little else to go on at the moment, so I figure I'll scour the bottom a bit.

I know the graffiti at 1:12 has been covered. The "2004 ACE" And I know that people have mentioned the top line being cut off. Whatever the other line/number is, do we maybe think that it is a memorial kind of date? Something like 1981 or 1987-2004? I don't really believe it is relevant as a clue, but if it is, the top line has to matter too.

At 1:28, I believe these are the two girls from the 1-18-08.com photo. The girl on the right, I believe is Lizzy Caplan. Not relevant necessarily, but thought I'd throw in my two cents.

The big glowing tower that the statue of liberty head passes in front of at around 1:31, do we know what building that is yet? If we do, is it the same building at 1:03 on the right that the explosion is behind? I have never even visited New York, so I don't know but, if it is, wouldn't that throw our perspective off a bit? It just seems like when they look at it from on the rooftop it is pretty far away, and when they are on the street, it is a straight line only a matter of blocks away.

Finally, I know there has been some debate as to where exactly the statue head comes from. I think it comes from just off to the left, but from within the smoke, and from what I understand about where this street is, and where the statue is, that would almost have to suggest that the "monster" carried the head to this spot.

REALLY sorry about the length. I know I can get a little long-winded. But if it helps, I probably won't post very often Wink !

tentacle

Was just watching the trailer in HD, and it APPEARS to be a bit of the monster. It could be smoke, but it moves in a seemingly definite pattern, and it moves in concert with the throwing of the head of the statue of liberty. It looks like a tentacled monster, like a giant octopus or a kraken.

NY field trip!

I have the whole day off tomorrow, so I'll be heading into town (with nothing more than my camera-phone, sadly) to take pictures of the site where the trailer was filmed, to see if I can't dredge up any more information or clues, including the names of the buildings in the area. It's just after 5 here, so I'll be heading out before noon. Any New Yorkers care to meet up or is everyone busy with work?

If I know my NY landmarks at night like I think I do (since I'm floating between midtown, East Village, and Soho nearly every night of the week), I think the big glowing building might be the large building right next to the Madison Park near 23rd and Broadway. Could be wrong, but that's what it first reminds me of. It would have had to have been filmed during one of the nights where they don't have weird colored lights up on the building, though, like the red-white-blue from the 4th of July area of time.

Girl on the right...

Sorry to post again so quickly, and for something as insubstantial as this probably is, but I forgot to mention it.

The 12:01 timestamp photo on 1-18-08.com? The girl on the far right that some people think has the number 9 on her shirt? First, I don't think that is part of her clothing at all, but just the bricks of the wall behind her being highlighted with the flash of the camera.

More importantly (but probably not important at all) I believe this is the girl from the other 1-18 site photo, the girl on the right.

Look at the trailer and scroll around within the 1:27 second area. Her features get similarly sharp when she is shouting, as they are in the 12:01 photo

Just a thought.
