 Update on history.swf

Okay, so I scoured through the history.swf file and as far as I can tell there are no hidden links or whatnot in it. (bummer) However, there are some strange coincidences in it regarding it's structure.

The bubbles of the donkey are actually regulated by code which says the following:

Code:

var i = random(10);
if (i >= 6)
{
   gotoAndPlay("start");
}
else
{
   gotoAndPlay("blank");
}

All this code does is generate a random number and if that number is greater than or equal to six, displays the bubble animation seen on the donkey. If that number is less than 6 it shows nothing. So 60% of the time, it shows nothing.

Now, I find interesting because >=6 is just another way of saying NOT LESS THAN 6.

How this plays into the puzzle is unknown to me at this point. Maybe someone else can figure it out. Since numbers are a big theme in this ARG, maybe it's useful to know that this code appears on frame 51 and sprite 96 and the bubbles themselves have a name of "b3".

----

I'll do the same flash-based investigation on the other pages of the slusho site and let you know what I come up with if I find anything.

and since theres no proof, we can only assume. but im betting its not-legit

There was in fact two clips on Youtube claiming to be trailers from the movie, both hand-held and involving traffic, only one of them just seemed more.. professional. Like hand-held tends to do in the movies.
The slightly more professional one was removed by Paramount, the other one wasn't.

Who could possibly have have the resources to film two gigantic, black monoliths falling from the sky and crushing a car if not a film company? Maybe it was from another movie? Does the scene ring any bells for anyone?

Erm, I can't remember where, but I've seen someone post a photograph of that street, from the same general spot where they pour out of the building, looking down towards where the head comes from.

Here's the post with the picture of that building.

Here's also where
Bethnic says "... it looks almost as if they composited two areas into one."

One last thing, I registered for this site, but I must have missed an account activation step. When I try to log in, I'm told that the account is inactive and that I need to contact the administrator. Can anyone point me in the direction of the admin and/or his/her email address? I really need some help on this. Thanks.

You need to make sure that you use a valid e-mail address when you register, because the forum backend (PHPBB) sends out an e-mail to that address requiring you to click on a link to activate the account.

So if you used a fake e-mail, then well, you're shit out of luck.

They are actually shooting in LA. While looking like NY for most of it....

Now that we've driven this thread to over 70 pages and have moved very close to a "probable" ARG, has anyone given thought to some sort of more organized data-collection process?

I'm thinking that this might be the time to set up a web site to collect the information we have, track sources for that information, build a general timeline, and rate the information in terms of how speculative or close to the central Abrams Trailer it is.

Any thoughts?

I don't know if this has been brought up before quite this way, but here's an interesting article I found that claims to have the explanation behind the codename Cloverfield. (Yes, I saw the post that stated that the Santa Monica Airport used to be called Cloverfield Airport.) I think this probably rules out the Project Serpo angle, although that was a very interesting lead.

Of course I used my real email address, but I deleted the activation message. I actually did look through it to see if there was an activation link, but I swear I didn't see one. I didn't mention it earlier because I knew it would make me look stupid. Well I guess I am stupid.

Usually systems like this have a way of resending the activation email. Is there such a thing here? Can I speak to the admin, please?

I'm thinking it might be time to obliterate this thread, condense it down to one 2-paragraph post, and start over. Wink

Which is why in my previous post, I stated the trying to find the real location of the apartment, and the license plate was moot simply because movies/tv shows DO NOT always film on location, and will always add shit in to give fit within the general vicinity of where the story is taking place.

So I go to bed last night hoping for monumental overnight progress, and I awake to nothing. I'm starting to think that either we're too stupid to find the trail they've laid out for us, or they're not ready quite yet and they're stalling for time appropriately.

This isn't a fast moving beat, it appears, which is okay. There's plenty of time for ruminating over clues, chasing down possible leads, and refining what we find so that when the next update does come (in whatever form it comes) we're not still trying to tie down loose ends from the last one.

That is, assuming it is an ARG. I'm still keeping the possibility alive that it may not be. It may just be an Easter Egg Hunt, you know?

You missed the most important part though...

I've scoured through the code for the index.swf, history.swf AND the photos.swf file from both 1-18-08.com AND slusho.jp and found that in history.swf, the following code snippet mentions the name 'Robert Penner' . At first i thought it was just a flash developer's name, but if that was the case, and the same person coded all three pages, don't you think that the name would be in ALL THREE PAGES..but it's not, only in the history.swf file:

Code:
movieClip 146 __Packages.com.robertpenner.easing.Back {

    #initclip
      if (!_global.com) {
        _global.com = new Object();
      }
      if (!_global.com.robertpenner) {
        _global.com.robertpenner = new Object();
      }
      if (!_global.com.robertpenner.easing) {
        _global.com.robertpenner.easing = new Object();
      }

I'm not saying there's anything to it..but still..something about this doesn't sit right with me...what do you guys think?!

oh btw, ACE 2004...maybe the ACE Awards??
