looks like we're stuck

Looks like we're waiting on the next evolution- from either Triton or Ethan Haas somewhere... (hopefully not waiting until 8/1!)...

Guess I'll be over at the you know where other thread in the meantime (not that they aren't stuck too)

Well, you could take it to one of the 1-18-08 threads instead of this Ethan Haas thread.

Bang Head

My fault, I wasn't paying attention to the thread count when I was going to reply to this, and was actually starting to look at this thread through the Time Wasters forum. I just boo-booed.

So, ultimately it IS a front....
I would say most likely. At least, more likely than anything on a blog.

Here's some interesting postulation :
Triton owns EHWR, so it stands to reason that Mr. Haas is an employee there or they support his views. Right? There's no sense in running a website to support him if they disagree with him. They could just replace everything there now with "Ethan is a jackass" and be done with it.

So what would Mr. Haas know that Triton would like to promote? By the nature of their business, it would stand to reason that it involves the defense industry and high performance electronics. After all, that's Triton's business, cooling solutions for defense applications. What are typical things that need cold plates in the defense industry? RADAR, night vision, some optical systems (think large telescopes), and supercomputers. If this is the case, then it would be most likely that Mr. Haas was involved in a project that has seen something coming. That something is obviously not very friendly.

There is one other application on the opposite side of the spectrum that I know of that uses cold plates in defense : very high powered lasers. Perhaps Triton and Mr. Haas feel guilty for having a hand in supplying parts to a laser weapon that ends up destroying the city we see on the website.

Or, as I argued, Triton doesn't exist, and is simply a construct put in place by Van Mantra.

So, long story short, either Triton feels partially responsible for what Ethan Haas predicted, or Triton doesn't even exist and is actually Van Mantra incognito.
But there are what I would consider problems with both of these:
A.)If Triton knows Van Mantra, why would they deny his existence in one of the personal e-mails?
B.)If this is Mantra's disguise, why would he keep the video saying that his name was Van?
I could be wrong, but I have the impression that the Mezin could crack these puzzles faster than we can, and if that's the case, bye-bye disguise....

The other possibility is

(3) The puppetmasters are half-assing it and would rather we didn't think such things.

Hmm, that could be the case... XD
Guess it all inevitably leads to one ultimatum: Wait till August 1st.

I think you'll have to define "doesn't exist". If you mean, its not a real-life registered business and doesn't really produce anything, I would agree.

If you mean its in-game yet made up by Van, that makes no sense. Its a rather elaborate cover and would still imply that someone has detailed and intimate knowledge of defense product construction. That's a hellva cover story to pull out of your ass. It would also assume that Van is an antagonist, which makes no sense at this point. If he wants to destroy a city /country/Earth or is involved in a larger plot to destroy something, why the hell would he be recruiting people with puzzles and ominous text buried in source code? That would be a hell of a campaign for the Army. "Join the Army today so you can be a part of 'the End and the destruction of the Earth and to the fires from which nothing could escape'". I get the feeling there wouldn't be many takers. Why would he be drawing attention to himself in the first place? It would make more sense to keep a low profile and not talk to anyone. Why tell us about "the ancients", whomever they are?

If you mean its made up by the PM's to throw us off the point of what this is promoting or whatever, that also makes no sense. Use Domains By Proxy or some other such service.

I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just using Occam's razor. When we know more, things may change. However, at this time your postulation isn't the simplest answer.

I dunno if I'd say half-assing it. People are hard to predict and getting a random group of them together on the Internet makes it even harder. You could end up with a group that's smart as hell and always outflanking you or a bunch of dip-shits. I think the point of the puzzles is the make sure players are of some base line of intelligence. They're clearly well designed and the flash is amazing, so I wouldn't say this game is thrown together.

Very true. The acting is pretty good and the puzzle ball could even be compared to Myst in its design. These guys clearly know what they're doing.
If they did make a mistake, that's only human.

Why would he be pulling it out of his ass? He could just be someone who knows that industry.

Um, no it doesn't this at all. It assumes he's truthful about being the protagonist who has been forced into hiding by the Mezin being hot on his trail.

We know that Van has announced via email that he needs to find a new way to get his message out because of the Mezin closing in on him. At about the same time, the DNS info for Van's domain mysteriously changed to information which led us to a new site.

That's entirely consistent with the idea of "Triton" just being a cover for Van.

I did a whois on badrobot.com:

Which look at the tumbnail. It matches:

http://www.tritonenterprises.net/

Now I did a little further testing and it looks like the thumbnails are just images of the website, for example do a whois lookup on microsoft.com. Anyway to further this...tritonenterprises.net was registered with godaddy, completely seperate from network solutions. So I doubt the pictures could just be 'place holders'. Coincidence?

Well I found one other thing out that still leads me to believe www.ethanhaaswasright.com and www.1-18-08.com are linked. I for one think it's fishy that all of a sudden http://www.tritonenterprises.net/ has a new face…oh and what do you make of this:

C:\>ping www.badrobot.com

Pinging badrobot.com [208.109.78.139] with 32 bytes of data:

A little to similar IMO. For them to have an IP address in the SAME octet would be like a 1 in a million chance. Make of it what you will.

Do you know how many websites are sitting on secureserver.net, the way those two are?

Let's just say, "Many."
