Anyone feel like picking through the trailer, just looking for tidbits? I'm not sure how much of the trailer's good for in-game stuff, but it passes the time, right?

1) What's the old dude doing at this hipster's party? - At the very beginning of the trailer, there's a guy standing by himself under the banner. His image isn't very crisp, but if he's not a good bit older than anyone else at the party, I'll eat my hat.

2) Who's the guy in the Groucho Glasses? - About 1/4 into the trailer, after we've done the long pan past the banner, there are two guys talking to Rob (at least I believe it's Rob). Pause and go frame by frame until you get a couple good looks at the guy in the fedora. He's wearing a pair of Groucho Glasses without the moustache. I think that's J.J. Abrams (who has a distinctive schnoz) but I swear the nose looks like an entirely different skin tone than the rest of his face and it hooks downward sharply. Is that a little joke for the rest of us? He's also right in the middle of the pack at the first roar/lights out.

3) I have to agree with whoever first said that Rob looks a lot more worried than confused. Everyone else seems to be throwing off WTF?!?! body-language. Rob is throwing off "oh no" vibes. First sign of that is after the power comes back and he's turning away from the window. He's passed briefly by a young woman (who, I believe, is one of the two women in the "two women" 1-18-07 picture) who is moving away from the window fast and headed somewhere else. Right before the shot changes, he runs his hand through his hair in a classic "Oh my God" move. When he's on the roof, he honestly looks scared spitless. It could be an honest reaction, but his body language seems well out of place compared to that of everyone else.

4) When they exit the building, notice that pretty much everyone else is moving away from whatever made the sound except Rob and the two women. Rob and one of the women are having what appears to be an animated conversation about someone or something back inside the building. The other woman is looking up and toward the commotion with a look of either dread or barely-contained panic. When the sound happens again, Rob and the second woman bolt. The first woman's face completely changes, as if she's seen something that's shocked the emotion right out of her. Then everyone runs but the cameraman.

Let's play with what we know and see. Smile

It might just be the hallway. Hard to tell. Also: anyone notice how strange the first flash of that guys camera is? Almost like it's animated. Probably nothing.

EDIT: Also, the entire apartment has a bare brick motif, so I'm gonna go with no on the daytime thing.

I think it's one of those "redeye" flashes, which always look strange to me.

I wonder what Rob is looking at so intently in that side room?

1) the guy in the blue shirt? You can see him, I think, in the "let's go to the roof" bit. He's a little square I guess, but not that old.

going to register in aminute but ya.....

the object/monster that appears in the smoke seems to be comming from far and as it gets "closer" it becomes more detailed so i am assuming the next part of that scene is the "OH FUCK" stage where everyone knows what is wrecking face and everyone starts to hall ass

I think in the trailer, the camera specifically focuses on the license plate number so that we can find something out about it.. Look how purposely it focuses on it, lol

This url has already been listed in the other thread as a shill before they put up their silly shit. Troll.

re:SOL

There's a lot of explosions going on here. I am on the side of the fence convinced that something has ripped the head off the SOL, carted it across the/through/under the water to land, and chucked it at the building at high speed - it's projectile city.

But to my knowledge there's nothing inherently explosive in the head of the SOL, considering it's copper....and surely the top of the 401 building isn't wired to explode, so why did it explode into a huge ball of fire?

There is, somewhere near there, a *replica* of the SOL...maybe it wasn't the actual SOL head from the harbor but the replica at that museum place that got hurled down the street. I don't have many details on it but I know there is one in that area...maybe someone in that neck of the woods can provide details.

Also, when they're on the roof and see the first explosion, the fireballs that streak up into the sky firework style come shooting toward the ground with a very distinctive projectile fingerprint. But did you notice that in the shot of them in the sky overhead that a secondary explosion takes place within each of the fireballs and *then* they shoot to the ground like bombs - or meteors.

In the same shot when the group is running back inside for cover, the building across the street that gets hit, if you look closely (or go frame by frame) the building takes a hit, there's fireball and debris but also something curiously black that looks like it's attaching to the building. Not sure what to make of that, whether it's like some blob of tarish sort of substance "of" whatever the projectiles are or if that's CG for "shadow" and an oversight in the graphics dept.

I did a whois on badrobot.com:

Which look at the tumbnail. It matches:

http://www.tritonenterprises.net/

Now I did a little further testing and it looks like the thumbnails are just images of the website, for example do a whois lookup on microsoft.com. Anyway to further this...tritonenterprises.net was registered with godaddy, completely seperate from network solutions. So I doubt the pictures could just be 'place holders'. Coincidence?

Well I found one other thing out that still leads me to believe www.ethanhaaswasright.com and www.1-18-08.com are linked. I for one think it's fishy that all of a sudden http://www.tritonenterprises.net/ has a new face…oh and what do you make of this:

A little to similar IMO. For them to have an IP address in the SAME octet would be like a 1 in a million chance. Make of it what you will.

Is it just me or in the *brief* second the camera holds still at 1:30, you can see what looks like a cephalopod eye just to the lower left of the street light? May just be smoke, but worth looking at in slow-mo.

in the message from Abrams it reads:

he writes 'who gives a rat's about what's online?'

why would he omit the word ASS..it seems like an unlikely omission...and seems more intentional than anything...
He leaves it out because he's referencing his use of the word ass earlier in the sentence... "if the movie doesn't kick some massive ASS, who gives a rat's [ass] about what's online?"

It's an "understood" ass in that location, referring back to it's use earlier. It's a play on the usage of the word ass in two different contexts.

It's like... "If Joe writes a book, nobody will read Dave's." It's understood we're talking about Dave's book, as in "If Joe writes a book, nobody will read Dave's [book]."

Hey new to the boards thanks to this 1-18-08 thing....its sorta my first ARG and I'm very excited to be part of it....so please forgive my n00bishness.

Now to the matter I wanted to note something I saw as odd (despite it could have little to do with whats going on). The picture in the middle of the room at the 50 second mark seems to be grabbing at Rob almost like a omen.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this, thanks!

While I won't say you're wrong, I will say that this reminds me of people seeing different things in clouds, for example. Everyone sees something else.

All I see for sure is what appears to be a lot of dark smoke. I'm guessing (just personal opinion) that there's no shots of any of the "monster" whatsoever in the trailer, for the fact that as secretive as they've been about everything else, I doubt they're going to reveal something as major as that. They know that people are going to be doing frame by frame analysis of the 1080 HD trailer, and therefore know that if there's any big reveal in there it's going to be found, and I don't think they want that being given away so soon after the trailer debut. They want the hype and speculation to be drawn out much longer than that, to create an extended buzz around the mystery of it all.

Right now, this thing has gained so much momentum precisely because of how mysterious it is. We really have no clue what this is all about, and they're relying on that element to drive interest. Putting a shot of the main attraction in the trailer would give away too much of the secret, and there's a good possibility that the monster itself hasn't even reached the final stages of post production yet.

I think it's just smoke, and purposely so. That street scene from the trailer, if it does indeed make the final cut of the movie, may very well reveal more after they're finished working on it.
