No, no...I totally agree. Giant monster notwithstanding, the trailer is presented as a realistic event....and in fact, on a meta level, they were conscious of what parts they were going to feed the audience, so what's in the trailer is very relevant more than arbitrary.

If we exclude "bad acting" as the cause, then it's part of the backstory we don't know yet. And to be fair to the actors, I am aware that this is all supposedly a big secret even to them, and they were directed to react "as if" this or that....so it could be "bad directing" even Razz They don't know exactly (irl) what they're really reacting too, how much is reasonable etc. That could explain it....to be fair anyhow.

Otherwise, given the giant huge alive thing, their reactions just seemed a little low grade to me (and others).

There were a few lines in the trailer that seemed to stand out to me, in the spirit of relevance to the story....maybe Rob has more awareness of what's going on than he was prepared to reveal....

That's partly why I kicked this thread off - something about the history of slusho and Rob's disrupted trip to Japan is connected somewhere.

SLUSHO! came to life ! ! ! ! ! !

and some huge alive thing throwing heads....hard to walk away from.

There were some lines that seemed a little funny to me, too.

The drinking girl: "What is this for?"
Um ok, you're at a farewell party for someone. what do you think its for? (Unless she's just...unintelligent)

"It sounded like an animal"

"Maybe we can see more from the roof."
See what? If its just an 'earthquake', whats to see, really? Oh, Slusho shirt man.

"Maybe You Should've left for Japan earlier" (paraphrase)
Honestly, is this just like 'dude, you're stuck now', or...something else?

"I saw it! Its Alive! Its Huge!"
Just...you know....creepy.

Slusho

Any idea what element or substance the "Ingrediant" is that Ganu found? There's a good possibility that it's made up and has nothing to do with anything, but it did make him "grew from a small fish into an enormous whale".

I tried looking up different elements occuring in the deep sea but didn't come up with much.

A whole page of history is devoted to the ingrediant, so it's important, but maybe that's because that's what really made the company.

It kind of reminds me of "Slurm" from Futurama.

I suspect somebody alive and/or huge wants it's secret ingredient back.
Oh, and I'm jumping in. This is the first time I saw 1-18-08 go anywhere so far. Good thinking, tinag222. Smile

The girl suspected to be Lizzy Caplan in the video ("what is this for?")
is drinking something with a straw. Now, its usually not advised to drink alcoholc anything with a straw, so what is she drinking?

Slusho?

The straw, and the question, "What's this for?" would point to Slusho!, yes.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the monster was actually six giant Slusho! cups? Now THAT would be a movie. Rolling Eyes

Now that just makes me want to sing the Doom Song. XDD
But seriously *ahem*
I can understand the group of partygoers to not freak out immediately after the explosion.
See, this is something that usually only happens in movies, and the first human, even instinctive, response would be that what's happening isn't exactly real in one way or another. (I.E. a dream or imagination).
Only after the experience comes closer, like the Statue of Liberty's head, would tragedy really register. And judging the "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" response, it did register right then.
Not too sure what Rob was thinking, but the Cameraman certainly was quiet.

I'm wondering if the original camera man if the one who ends up with the camera on the street. It's clear that is was dropped and picked up someone who definitely appears to be Rob, who then hands it to someone else, as we begin following Rob again.

Who is the person behind "OH MY GOD"? Rob?

This'll be my last post for tonight (it's 3:17AM here) but I'm not sure if it was Rob screaming. Truth be told, it could've been anyone, but according to movie symbolism, it might've been the writers/director saying that the fact of danger hit home to everybody by then.

Edited for speling.

Night everyone. Smile

trailor

Been watching the trailor as close to frame by frame as I can, keeping my eyes out on his apartment to pick up anything I can about Rob. For one thing, he has a lot of Japanese stuff, he's obviously BEEN to Japan before. They were serving sushi and other Japanese food, but this is likely because he is leaving for there. I'm guessing he's had a job that's taken him to Japan a lot, and he's decided to finally move there. If not with Slusho, then another company, who knows. Also, the one thing that might give the most information if there is anything at all, is his refrigerator. It has a bunch of pictures and drawings of his friends. I fear that without and context though, pictures of random people don't help much.

Well, I just had a thought. Perhaps it's the cameraperson's home, and they're shooting the party out of host's obligation. The cameraperson is the only one who doesn't seem to be screaming and panicking by the end of the trailer; however, judging from the way the "oh my god, oh my god!" line sounds, that may be screamed by the cameraperson.

[EDIT: Okay, the guy who says "this is going to be the best night ever" is seen another time in the trailer. It may still be possible he is the cameraperson, though. The relevance is probably nil.]

Yep, when I saw the straw I wondered the same thing exactly - slusho?

Looking around, tho, there's beer and red plastic cups, etc. As a former bartender the going straw is a stirrer....and usually the clear straws like that are reserved for frozen drinks....like slushies....and frozen margaritas Razz I didn't notice cause I didn't look, but don't recall seeing any set up at the wetbars for frozen drinks.

I agree it was a dopey question to ask, but for all we know she could've been tanked....or a guest of somebody else's and didn't know the 'main group' - don't know.

Slusho shirt guy is curious. He was pretty casually dressed. IF that was actually anybody's apartment (as opposed to some common joint they usually congregated at), it could be that guy's place over Rob's. Compared to how the rest of them were dressed, to "go out" to this party, dressing up even casual, it was nicely dressed, slusho guy is in a tshirt and the overshirt. Rob's in a suit. Guy mentality: don't dress up just to hang out at your own place. Guy mentality in real life: don't dress up at all if you can possibly help it unless you're gay, metro, or trying to score with chicks - as some place other than your place.

Oh I did notice slusho guy was dancing with the black chick in the strappy dress...and he does seem to disappear amid the panic - could he be the Jason in question they're looking for?

No, he's the one that said Rob owed him 11 bucks. But mostly no cause he was on camera when he makes the above comment....so somebody else had he camera ;-p

Where did slusho guy end up?

Camera guy was kinda chatty in the beginning but he sure quietens down there at the end....that's just pretty damn not right.
