And I'm a cynic.

Let me go on record as saying:
This is Bull Crap.

I believe this is the same investor fraud that we've seen a million times before. The only differences are there to create "plausible deniability", in other words they want to be able to get away with it, too.

Then they claim they have top scientists who are studying it. I am firm in my belief that these are the same scientists that were studying the Ark at the end of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

They aren't trying to disprove a theory. They are trying to disprove a fundamental Law (capital L). This is like someone getting up one day and stating "Gravity isn't caused by MASS, it's caused by the color ORANGE!"

However, they have proven a number of other theories:
There is a sucker born every minute.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
People are stupid and will believe any lie, either because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it's true.

Also, generally speaking, discovery goes along the lines of:
1. Notice a phenomenon
2. Work out why it happens or at least what is happening
3. practical application
4. Profit! (sorry, meme)

They have claimed they don't really know why it's happening. They skipped step two, which isn't really possible.

To quote sensei: "Why you so stupid? You not hungry for Orbo. You hungry for HOT POCKET!"

Shoot, I had so many other things to say, but the voices in my head are arguing about the order to put them in. This will have to do for now...

I saw this on the steorn website the other day:

Quote:
Under the terms of a modified general public licence and for a nominal fee, Steorn's intellectual property will be made available concurrently to all interested parties, from individual enthusiasts to larger research organisations. Steorn is taking this bold move to accelerate the deployment and acceptance of its technology for both humanitarian and commercial products.

If this "nominal fee" turns out to be a few thousand pounds they could clean up by selling the license to people wanting to see if the technology is real. Even if they genuinely believe the Orbo works they stand to make a profit before anyone has had a chance to publicly evaluate their technology.

On another note, it seems strange that they have chosen an art gallery to display the machine and try to get some credibility, given the very broad ideas of what constitutes art now, it only adds another thing to be skeptical about. Perhaps its just some odd art project about energy or belief or something.

Stuff changed
some kine of hoax?

This is definitely some kind of Hoax. A few days ago, I visted Steorn Orbo World First Free Energy Demonstration where there was a web cam with some equipment set up in acrylic boxes for a demo and it looked kind of hoaxy as nothing was really going on. I got tired of watching the live cam and bookmarked it. The bookmark said "Steorn Orbo World First Free Energy Demonstration". Now I go to the same exact page from my bookmark link, and title of the page said "With a forked tongue -- Forget everything you just didn't witness. Go Back to _Sleep._"

And now there are wierd U-Tube videos on it - one is using bad language (warning don't view if you don't like swear words), and is giving a lecture on how people all over the world can't tell the difference between reality of Tubes and Real People and Events, and how everything in life is just an illusion.

On the left side is a link "Error" and when visited goes to another company website for a medical X-Mark website that has ridiculous company products on it - chips for your children, etc., and the products are first seemily believeable but after awhile it is just like the energy website a bunch of bull. I think this whole thing has been some kind of lesson in illusion - the first website was an illusion of a real energy business, and this website is an illusion of a medical website (in light of the U-Tube video).

On the right side a a link "Hard Failure" that I am afraid to download - it is a .zip file.

There is a "flipside" link that goes to a U-Tube video about the end of the world because of a planet shift.

There is a "we don't make mistakes" link that goes to a RFID chip website.

So here is the original link which was the energy demo previously:

http://z8d.no-ip.info/cam

It is still the Steorn company because if you shorten he link above, you get a bunch of weird files with their name on it:
http://z8d.no-ip.info/

My conclusion: a bunch of nuts

I agree that they're a bunch of nuts, but that site looks like it's been hacked. Not sure where you got those links. I found the following blog with links to the 4 cameras, they're all dead now, but I vaguely recall this camera4 URL working a couple of days ago.

Quite honestly, I don't remember where I got the link from, but it had to be available from somewhere on this forum or from the blog.

Now I am thinking it is an arg because I found another link to the same page with "arg" on the end of it.

Is gravity caused by Mass? I thought that the force of gravity was proportional to mass, but, the exact cause of gravity was unknown.

As for Steorn, is this performance art? Why are these guys trying to pull this off?

The original link I bookmarked was on their own site at http://www.steorn.com/orbo/demo/demo.html

I'm not sure how you got that link of yours, but you can stop digging.

I believe I got the link on the blog that was referred to on this thread somewhere. I only visited this thread and the blog that was referred to on this thread.

Gravitational force is proportional to mass, and gravity is 'caused' by mass.
According to Einstein's General Relativity, mass warps spacetime curving it so when a freely falling body is traveling in what appears to be a straight path towards another more massive body it is really traveling on a curved path through spacetime causing it's acceleration.
A much used analogy is a bowling ball (massive body) placed on a taut rubber sheet(spacetime). The indentation on the sheet caused by the bowling ball representing the spacetime curvature, starting a marble on a inward path from the edge of the sheet and watching it spiral in, being analogous to the path a body under the gravitational force takes through spacetime.

And this was the original site of the steorn webcast.

I got an e-mail this morning that there was a new post on this thread, but when I followed the link it said the post didn't exist. Did something get removed?

Also, Palm, I'd be interested to know where you got those links. It looks like just the ravings of a madman (John of Boston, anyone? Wink), or like someone is trying to tack an ARG onto the Steorn phenomenon. The links are to movie clips from Brazil and Network (what a great film!), RFID stuff, crop-circles, etc. I really don't think this is relevant to Steorn.

There's a lot of data there, so maybe it's leaked stuff from the developer's forum? Someone didn't play nice with the NDA.

But the source for http://z8d.no-ip.info/arg.html has Revelation 13:17 commented out, so whatever, I'll bite.

The torrent is for an American Morning story about VeriChip (a very real company) and human-implantable RFID devices.

The "Planet X" guy has several videos on YouTube and all are equally incomprehensible. The theory has been around for awhile and is a favorite of tin-foil-hat-wearers.

But this whole thing seems to be a red herring at best, and getting way off topic at worst. Steorn has indefinitely postponed their live demonstration, so maybe this thread will pick back up then.

A year and a half later, and on a whim I wondered what was up with these guys. With no news for some time, I thought perhaps it was in fact a viral/arg or something that failed.
So I just googled for some info...
I still don't believe this to be an arg, but just for the curious, here are some latest news articles... Steorn had a 'talk' in Dublin where they basically said they'll be launching something in 2009.

http://steorn.com/talk (minimal info about upcoming talks, which began Dec 17, 08 in Dublin)

Steorn talks at DIT: main points for discussion (link to the discussion audio as well)

Will the Steorn Storm start in February?

Science-Defying Energy Startups Power Ahead (discussing both Steorn and Blacklight Power, some really interesting scientific looks at the idea behind their endeavours for cheap/free power)

So apparently Steorn isn't dead... they just receded for a bit to re-collect themselves or something.
