[SPEC+META] What ever happened to SOTA? With the new server and the information within, it seems like SOTA has been abandoned. Does anyone think that storyline will ever pick up again?

Well, hopefully we'll see when the packages arrive - the last ones came with a SOTA flyer (right?).

SOTA served its purpose in directing us to the first server, FCC served its purpose in directing us to the second server. I would not be surprised if that is the extent of their involvement.
Of course, its a little early to say for certain either way.
EDIT: If there is a second package for the 100 server 2 keys, I wouldn't be surprised if it containted something from FCC.

I hope so, I worked really hard to get it

My gut feeling is SOTA is not completely out of the picture yet. I hope it's not anyway.

I'm betting that the SOTA site will be taken over, kinda like ILB.com did. Maybe...

I agree Noccy. They were just there to begin the game and that's about it.Who knows though,it's not impossible for them to be important soon.

considering halo3.com lists the servers as 'episodes' now, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the last we hear of the FCC too. Perhaps episode 3 will usher in another organization? *shrug*

This does seem like an important question. If SotA and FCC are to be involved in the future, then there may be a need to keep working on the "puzzles" that they have presented, like the email address, the purpose of the FCC's concealment, etc. If they are only being used to provide clues to open up each server, then it seems like this ARG will be much more limited in scope - basically just the 5 sites, the info therein, and then maybe one last shebang using all of the info from the 5 sites.
I would prefer that SotA and FCC be much more involved, given the possibility for the storylines there. As we've discussed before, maybe you have to choose between the two. I'm just trying to figure out how to view the two - should we consider all of this to be in-game? Did the FCC itself actually hide the information in the kiosks, etc., etc.? Did AR or something else create SotA and FCC to give us information to lead to the sites? Or are these just pointers to give us clues to open the sites? In other words, how do we define the scope of the Alternate Reality that is supposed to be behind this ARG?

I would like SOTA and/or FCC to stay involved - they haven't wrapped up the loose end of the SOTA local chapters or the SOTA mailing list. Plus, the rest of this feels more like viral marketing -- SOTA and FCC are the only more ARGish things.

I think SOTA will come into the story again. After all the new lunar cycle begins on the 14th, and we should try emailing them again. Has anyone tried that recently?
Also, we need to get some spec going about the FCC, about how they could be involved in the Halo story. From what I can tell in the conversation they say 'enter the code at OUR site' (emphasis added), and that they hid the data behind a false menu. Well the data that was hidden was a message from the Forerunners which held the key to unlocking server 2. So how could the FCC have this info and how does it tie into the 3-4000 sites that need/have been cleared up?
Also has anyone tried calling them recently? Theres still a part of the conversation missing from the beginning. I would but I live in England so its not very cheap for me!

We're getting near to SOTA's reappearance. On http://societyoftheancients.com/members.html there's a link to the PDF form, just commented out (you can see it in the source), so when SOTA is looking for new members, they'll un-comment it. Probably on the 14th with the new lunar cycle.
Still though, people sending emails to yesIgrok@ societyoftheancients.com and so on is stupid, all we need to do is email DoYouGrok as soon as the PDF file is un-commented.
Not being in the USA, I can't call the FCC, or use one of their kiosks. Nobody's tried calling them today afaik. Oh, we also might want to look for their PIN.
Still though, server 2 references a flood, and the FCC is there to clean up flood contamination...
Plus, if this really is an ARG, SOTA and the FCC will still play some parts.
BTW, we need to find the FCC's IP.
Female: Enter the access code after our site.
Bill: IP-slash-3463 or something?
Female: Yeah, slash-5467k actually, it should be operational any time.
now, halo3.com\5467k is what we guessed, and we found the key to server 2 there. But I'm convinced <FCC>\5467k might give us some more info.

SOTA still haven't accepted memberships. I think there's still more there. FCC could have more, but I'm sure SOTA isn't out of the picture.

did anyone notice that the background on the 5467k website looks like a scene from the "starry night" ad trailer?

It is, colonel. View the background separately, and it's a screen from the second scene.
As for SOTA and FCC, who knows? Maybe they'll play a larger part, maybe not. We'll see.
