Well probably cause of the graphics of kids and giant colorful animals and the silly immature (childlike) tone of the writing....and the fact there's nothing on there aimed at grownups with a higher interest in a slurpie, which for all intents and purposes is a frozen drink predominantly sold to KIDS over adults....

How many icees did I get as a kid: zillions
How many icees did I get as an adult: bout a dozen over a decade
How many icess did I get for my kids over 24 years: zillions

Kinda was a no brainer. This aint an 'adult swim' style cartoon site.

It's kiddie.

That's not really in the "assumption" category - it's based on a logical interpretation of the visual, there's strong evidence to support it.

As opposed to the "assumption" any of this is about cthulu, or Ethan Haas, or that somebody dropped the camera, or that the location was Rob's apartment, or that it was an apartment at all, etc. Most people assumed it was Rob's apartment because they were thinking only of the SURPRISE aspect of the party...but it was a GOING AWAY surprise party...and those, least from what I have observed, tend to happen somewhere other than the person's own house...a club, a hangout, where they work, a restaurant, etc.

Nothing new with the ten year old, except that she noticed something i did not. Music doesn't play on the download page.

Oh wow. I completely missed that.

That makes two ways the download page is noticeably different from all the others.

WAIT! WAIT!

When did the Downloads page change??

A couple days ago, when I was doing a rather long writeup of the Slusho page, I went over each of them in detail. I noticed that the Downloads page was the only one where there was no movement - just the two kids and their kites framing the downloads.

Now the kids move, there are a flock of waterfowl in "v" formation flying from left to right, and the yellow duck from the front page in a hot-air balloon on the right side.

All that stuff is brand-spanking new.

Yep.

I noticed the flock of birds (pun: seagulls? heh) flying in on the downloads page and remembered what you wrote, but I was actively wondering if maybe these color changes might be a subtle clue like one of those hex puzzles - I saw the birds and distinctly had that twitch that something isn't right, but I couldn't definitively say I hadn't seem them the other 50 times I pulled the site up....so I refrained from mentioning it. Now that you point to it, I am adding mine to the mix.

We're noticing things but we don't have references against which to compare them. That's one reason I built the blog site - to have some sort of reference against which to compare future happenings and to build a trail, if you will. I was kind of glad to have it since I could go back, see what I wrote then, and confirm that it was different. I wish I had more time and the brainpower to write up much more. The trailer alone is going to prove to be a monster. I think I'm going to work on the 1-18-08 site next.

I haven't seen the pulsing but having heard three different times that it's happening, I can't doubt it. I don't know what it means but I'm working under the assumption that the more clues we gather, the more incongruous elements we find, the more likely we are to having someone come along and make a connection or two.

I think perhaps our strategy ought to be that we not chase down any rabbit holes for the time being. Let's look at what is in front of us, consider what things don't make sense (using the general opinion of the group for what does and doesn't make sense) and note them so that later on we can examine them in more detail.

That duck's in a hot air balloon. Ducks do not need hot air balloons.

I don't think it's necessarily (just) for kids either. It's just cute and Japanese and a little weird.

www.chance.com is a good example of this. Mascot, colorful, weird.

Also, guess what.

There are exactly six animals on the history page.

Eww, this is getting to be like my shakespeare and the number twenty six theory.

If you watch/know much about anime you'll know there are significant differences between Anime geared towards kids and those geared towards adults. The music, animation, and coloring of the site shouts that it is geared towards kids, but the actual textual contents and layout of the site suggest there is something deeper.

and totally in Japanese Razz

Slusho begs off from that in being in english too...catering to the west, and our culture....and we'd see that as aimed at kids but still. I get what you're saying....let's just keep this focused on slusho's curiosities. Obviously the grownups would be the ones examining it either way...

rialto - good call - why would ducks need hot air balloons? I mean is there some warped symbolism to this sorta thing or are we thinking too hard?

Jimmy - evidently the flash code itself seems to be set up for randomness so until there is something clear to dispute it, go with random and "wait for it." Pull the page up and move the images around a little and then go do other stuff. Check on it from time to time. Maybe reload the page a time or two along the way. I don't know how to make it happen, but I did see it clearly and it was one of those WOAH WTF? moments because they've been static save but the ticking. Once you see it you likely won't be thinking "eh, flash glitch"....but more like "ah ha! there IS something deliberately up with these pics!"

Has anyone thought to search Monster.com for the next clue?

I mean, the main character is starting a new job, and his hometown is being attacked by some sort of creature. The only clue we've found is the website for a japanese corporation.

Seems like the logical next step.

Okay - surface incongruities.

1) The site is built to appeal to kids on first contact but not to keep them for very long. On the other hand, it's built to keep adults around for long enough to read the history, but not to attract them there in the first place.
2) Most of the site is either in poor English or is bi-lingual, except for the "subtitles" on the sub-pages which are entirely in Japanese.
3) The Japanese links on the sub pages match the ones on the main page, with two exceptions: there is a link only on the main page labeled "Happy Talk" and a link only on the sub-pages labeled "Distribution Opportunities".

yeah, I think the cartoon style and general oddity of the site (and english translations) is supposed to be poking fun at Japan. The Japanese are well-known for having bizarre commercials and silly marketing, as well as very poor Japanese to English translation.

I'm looking at it at this second and there's music playing. It just took a few seconds to kick in.
