one point of view

I missed discussing this last night but:
1. I know a little bit about sports and I don't think anyone considers the name of the team "TEA" a stat, but I do see how it could be a "tea party"
for the ladies. (4 Down)

2. Can we make 1 down the rose? please, just for me? Smile

I think this kills intestate Crying or Very sad

11 Across might be : Emnity. It sort of fits. There's a NY in there and it means to hate.

I think you're right. Crying or Very sad
But it was a good answer....

For later, once we finish getting all the letters, I assume we need to follow the clues in the poem to remove some letters or words and rearrange what's left. The "God thrice great" is Hermes, Thoth if we're going Egyptian.

Actually, I pegged "God thrice great" as God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

True, could be. I had googled it and came up with more than a few sites that call Hermes the "thrice great god" though. Guess we'll have to see what the final batch of letters are and what makes sense.

Here's some of the sites:

and

Just speccing again....and I know this screws up "TEA", but for #1 Across - WATERSHED?

Quote:
Its answer was "tears", and the turning point was entirely in how the question was stated...

how the question was stated...
If you say WATER SHED?....could refer to "tears", shed is used to describe tears. But if you put it as one word...WATERSHED( in other words "state" it differently) it could refer to:

and the turning point
One definition of WATERSHED is:
A critical point that marks a division or a change of course; a turning point

Anyway......food for thought

"WHISPER" (Boy George) fits #1 Down and also fits with the suggestion of #11 Across ENMITY (although I have no idea how they match the clues provided, so Lord only knows.....)

The only tenuous connection I can make with ENMITY is that the word "Father" in the clue is presented as a proper noun....as in Priest, and ENMITY sorta sounds like AMITY....as in AMITYVILLE....lol (following me...nah me neither)

Does it look to anyone else like there is a space between the F and the ather.....signif.? Who knows.

Not sure about whisper, but "enmity" seems to fit. Enmity = hate, a father could be father "time", which is backwards (back alley) fraternizing with NY (new york).

So, if this is right, do we even need to get the NBA clue? If what we have is correct, then we have all the crossing letters, we also have all the first letters. I don't know what to do with this yet, but for ease of reference here they all are:

Crossing letters:

w t r e j k i s b a n i e m t a n e c n r u s a s o p p o e l i i g c w m i o s

First letters:

w h i e f a i w c c a p s e w t r e j k n i l e n w s p l

Have at thee!!!

We have "Let fly the head of the God-Thrice-Great".

If the Hermes/Thoth conection is right then we may need to discard the letters IBIS as Hermes/Thoth has the head of bird and in particular an IBIS.

As for the castle gate all I can think of is portcullis but we don't have enough 'L's if I count correctly Crying or Very sad

Yeah, but I posted before joining chat, so at least we know that word is the correct one, coming from the both or us Rolling Eyes

"you must bear your crosses without debate"

So maybe we also need to take out ARGUMENT, or some other word that means "debate"?

My bad. The crossing letters are:

Crossing letters:

w t r e j k i s b a n i l e m t a n e c n w r u s a s o p p o e l i i g c w m i o s

I missed a w and an l on the first go round. Embarassed
